- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was enrolled in my first year of college and saw a news report about massage being used to lower the heart rate of babies born addicted to drugs. It stirred something in me and within a couple months I was in massage school. Unfortunately, besides teaching parents to massage their babies and my own, I've never worked on infants. After massage school, I went straight into therapeutic massage and sports on athletes. That's the same thing, right?
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Certifications and hours aren't everything. Like so many fields, some massage therapist, health coaches, yoga instructors are just born with it. Meeting your professional first or getting a quick 10 min intro is a great way to find out if they have what you need.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
All massage therapists are not created equal. Please do not let one past experience hold you back.
