- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I try to keep my pricing easy and simple to understand. I start with a base per serving price and I always quote for the maximum number of servings that is indicated in the request. Labor intensive designs (hand-made sugar flowers, geode designs, metallics such as gold/silver leaf) are priced accordingly. I also do run specials on different aspects of the cake from time to time. In the month of October I always offer free delivery.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When I am contacted by a customer I am SUPER excited - making cakes isn't just my job...it's my passion...I love creating something special. I like to discuss what they are looking for as far as design. I try to explain that photos and inspiration items (like ribbon, color swatches, flowers etc) are excellent items for me to have when I am asked to come up with a custom design.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly attending classes, conventions and cake competitions to stay up to date on the latest trends. Online education is HUGE in my profession and I definitely take advantage of it.
