Antonio and Four Season Lawn & Landscaping Services have done several jobs for us. They have done some mulching, trimming some trees and bushes and stabilizing a tree. They did such a good job that we have hired them for our ongoing lawn and yard maintenance. They are professional, hard working, timely and well priced. I highly recommend them.

I am so grateful to have found Hollow Tree Service. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was the first time I've requested a tree trim. What great service from Hollow Tree for my first tree trimming experience! They provided me with a reasonable quote for trimming my tree and were flexible with scheduling. They called ahead, were on time, and in and out within an hour from set up to clean up. They also offered me tips to maintaining the tree . I appreciated that he was honest and didn't say that I needed to hire them annually if it was unnecessary. I've already recommended him to my neighbors and plan on using him the next time I need my tree trimmed. Honest, hardworking guy!

If I could put more stars, I would. Chris did an amazing job, and his team went above and beyond what I expected. He took the time to lay out and explain everything to me, which I very much appreciated, seeming I have no clue about tree trimming or any of the trees itself. He explained what different kinds of trees I had, and I something was wrong with them he knew exactly what it was and what I can do to fix the problem. He definitely has a life long customer in me, and I would recommend him to anyone! Not to mention, he gave the lowest/best deal of everyone I spoke with!

They did a great job: mowing, edging, mulching and trimming trees! We had let the yard get away from us and they trimmed it back into shape! It looks beautiful and they were able to use their professional judgement to see what needed to trimmed without us needing to be present. We will use them again!!

I had two palm trees and extra stumps grinded down. Some wire fencing had grown inside the stumps, which made it hard to cut with the grinder. The crew work really hard and did a great job. Very happy with the finished product. I would recommend Hallmarks Tree Service for your next project.

Alfredo Lunar and his crew with Heaven on Earth gave me my little piece of Heaven back!! My large yard was a jungle of weeds and overgrowth of the previous owner's many flower beds after several years of little attention. The previous owner also left a mess of a "potting bench" of sorts with many broken pots and etc and an area with a lot of other gardening supplies, borders and rolls of something like chicken wire, etc. There were some of these items which I wanted salvaged, but most trashed, and the same with clearing of the beds....keep some plants. It is definitely harder to work under those circumstances than to just do a 100% clear out and not worry, but they were the most conscientious crew I have ever hired! They were continually asking for clarification to ensure nothing was pulled which I wanted to keep. Alfredo continuously asked if I was happy and they all happily complied with anything I asked. They also laid a walkway for me on the side of my house which was previously always a mud pit where I was also attacked from above with vines growing on the fence. I coukdnt get out of my gate to fet to my faucet!! I love my new path!! Alfredo is also a very knowledgeable tree trimmer. He helped open my canopy up to more sunlight while leaving plenty of shade. He was very knowledgeable on the entire job, taking what I said I wanted and making recommendations on how to best accomplish that. Oh, and all that is done with liability insurance in case something goes wrong and workman's comp in case his employees get hurt!! I will hire Heaven on Earth again, and I recommend you do as well!!

"Both Douglas and his crew were professional, positive and pleasurable to work with. I’ve hired other tree trimmers in the past that ranged from good enough to poor. It was a blessing to find Douglas as he turned the tree trimming experience into something creative and fun. It’s hard to describe how nervous I was before Douglas started the job (based upon my past experiences with other tree trimmers that were not so favorable). I have 40 to 50 year old Oaks that I am extremely fond of – from the moment Douglas and his crew strapped on their tree climbing gear, started pointing, trimming and gathering I was no longer worried. A neighbor came by and recognized the professional work and hired Douglas to tune up his trees that same day."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
