I chose to move with Dallas Moving for my cross country relocation. I am very pleased that I did. The service has been fantastic and exceeded my expectations. They followed my request for a later move and came in the late afternoon. The guys who came were really professional and seemed to know how to wrap and handle furniture. The entire process has been smooth and easy. Thank you to Olivia who arranged my relocation and to Ron and his crew for getting my things moved. I will recommend your service to my friends who will be moving.

This was completely a last minute move! Send a request for moving a 1 bedroom apartment via Thumbtack about 12:30 am, had a response with interest and price by about 6:30 am. We contacted by phone, spoke with Nick about 8:30 am and had movers promised by 10:00 am. They called about 9:30 and let us know they were on the way and arrived by 10:20. The movers were courteous, quick and very sensitive to an extremely difficult situation. We were completely finished before 1:00 pm.

Brian (the owner of Texas Trend Services) moved my family cross-country from Dallas, TX to Providence, RI. Getting quotes for moving was stressful, but Brian made it easy for us. After we communicated about what we wanted, he came to our apartment to look at how much stuff we had to get an estimate. His estimate was very fair. We packed the boxes ourselves, but he packed up our TVs, clothes, art, and wrapped our dressers/storage drawers so we didn't have to pack those away in boxes. He also took apart our bed and wrapped our mattress. The day of the move he arrived at the agreed upon time and had out apartment packed up within three hours. He kept us aware of his progress (it only took him three days so we weren't stranded and waiting for our stuff) and arrived with all of our stuff. He unpacked the truck and moved the boxes/furniture where we wanted them. He also unpacked our closet and reassembled our bed. He did a great job and our move was relatively hassle-free. I definitely recommend him for any moving services.

Movers were on time, professional and stayed in constant communication with me. I had a long distance move where I couldn't be present at the pickup, but they handled everything perfectly. I definitely recommend them!

I have used Teleport Movers twice to move my family and once to move my parents and they were terrific both times. The crews are professional and my last move was in terrible weather conditions however they worked around mother nature and dealt with my overbearing wife as well as possible. the result was another stress free move well at least as least stressful as a move can be.

DFW Best Price Movers showed up right on time and his team got right to work packing. We have an inordinate amount of glassware and expensive or heavy professional kitchen items, but they did a great job carefully wrapping everything up. Our mirrors and artwork were all well-cushioned before packing . Everyone was really pleasant and hard-working, finishing ahead of schedule. Overall, they turned the worst part of moving into a fairly relaxed day for us. This is our 3rd cross country move, and by far the best experience we've had yet!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
