"Excellent massage therapist, with strong hands and great knowledge of human anatomy. I’ve received numerous therapeutic massages across the country, so I can attest that very few therapists can apply deep and controlled pressure as Herman does. I’m sure he’s proficient in other massage modalities as well, but if you’re looking for deep tissue to overcome the aches and pains of daily life or sport massage for your athletic activities, look no further, he’s your best choice in El Paso."

"First time ever massage. My pain was finally too unbearable, that I was forced to seek help. Boss Spa was able to help pin point the problem area, and totally alleviate my tension area. My pain was in my butt and near the sacrum area and lower back. Diagnosis: thoracolumbar fascia giving sciatic-like symptoms. Now, I'm unsure if the corticosteroids would of had ever really made my pain go away. It helped, but never fully went away, and never gave me a sense of nearing full recovery. But my therapeutic massage gave me that sense of nearing recovery! After, my 1 hour session at a superb deal, instant separation anxiety and sadness, lol. I felt wonderful, like I was definitely given a therapuetic massage. Very professional and respectful. Go get Massaged! "

"I've been working with Corey for 6 months or so and he's helped me so much. I knew after my first massage with him that he would become my "go to" massage therapist.. I haven't been to anyone since. Each time, he inquires about what's been going on since my last visit and then tailors the massage to meet my needs. He knows how to work my "overworked" muscles with just the right amount of pressure to make a difference but to not be sore the next day. He has an exceptional understanding of the body and how it works so I get the most out of the service. When my husband broke his ankle last Fall, Corey urged me to bring him in so he could help him get back on his feet. My husband was very nervous and extremely skeptical, but Corey put him at ease right away and made him feel much stronger. Thank you, Corey, for taking great care of both of us. "

"The massage therapy I receive relieves the arthritis in my knees. I also like the therapist intuition to focus on areas that need attention without mention. I also enjoy going for relaxation and well-being."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
