Shawn and his father did a good job welding two new posts to the gate fence wall. They also did a good job painting the gate. I am pleased with the job done and the time it took to do it. I will use them again if I need welding repair work.

Outstanding service and very professional. We had a retaining wall, stamped concrete with lighted steps and 3 planters put in with a sidewalk. All put in within a weeks time frame. I highly recommend this company as I will be contacting them next year for another job.

I hired Ramon Nava to find a leak that was causing ceiling dry wall to become wet. He was also to replace the damaged dry wall and replace the acoustic texture. We are pleased with the work Mr. Nava and his crew did. They found that the roofers who replaced the roofing for a previous resident did not properly seal the vents. Mr. Nava's team sealed six vents and the air conditioner duct and determined that the roofing itself was in excellent shape otherwise. They then removed the damaged dry wall in the hallway and replaced it with new dry wall. The acoustic texture was then applied evenly and completely. The walls in the hallway were painted to complete the repair. When the job was completed, the staging area and prep area in the front of the house did not show any evidence that Mr. Nava's crew had ever been there. All trash, and materials were removed and cleared out. Mr. Nava kept a close watch on his workers and outlined everything they were to do. He also inspected the work as they were doing it to insure a good result.

Upon moving into a new house, I found a lot of termite damage and Tim has been helping me with this along with other renovations. Because of the termites he has replaced all the sheet rock in my kitchen along with other kitchen renovations. He helped with porch supports, remodeled my bathrooms, replaced tile. He has helped me with electrical syetm in my home by moving light switches, replacing breakers and moving wires. He replaced my water heater, and even took out a few trees in my yard. He knocked out spare walls, and has basically helped me rebuild my house from the ground up. He has been a great advocate to help me do all of these projects within my budget, helping me find the best priced quality materials. Tim is efficient in all aspects of home remodel. I've been amazed by the great work that's been done.

I had 9 different people come give quotes for my project and jm flooring and remodeling was the best value for price quoted. I felt extremely comfortable with them from the beginnings. I trusted his judgements and suggestions as I was pretty clueless on the type of work that needed to be done. I'm glad I did. My floors and walls look great. If I wasn't 100% satisfied he went in and corrected the issue no questions asked. I will definitely be a repeat customer,

Newsky El Paso (El Paso, TX) did the remodel work on 2 of our bathrooms to our complete satisfaction. Larry, the owner, uses his own employees, who along with him, have all the requisite craftsmanship/building skills to complete the jobs. When they ran into unexpected difficulties, Larry relied on his decades of experience to recommend resolutions and has the skills to implement the fix. You will need to make all your own purchases of major items: toilets, tubs, cabinets, tops, faucets, paint, tile, etc., He supplies the ancillary stuff needed to complete the install which is built into his estimate. Make sure you get all the installation instructions, warranty papers, operating manuals, extra parts, etc. His guys are really good about getting rid of trash, but you need to let Larry know what you want to keep or out it goes. Let him know you want quality painting - no short cuts like leaving switch plates on the walls or hinges on doors and painting around them. He'll ensure the painter complies.

MAJO repaired and refinished my kitchen walls before painting them, and they also removed the old floor tiles and laid a new floor of vinyl tiles for me. The workers kept to their schedule and did a great job. The walls and floor look brand new. It was easy to get ahold of Alan before, while, and after the work was done. I have also used their services to repair a bedroom door jamb and hang a door for me there. I'll be installing kitchen cabinets soon, and I'll be contacting MAJO to do that job for me, too. MAJO is very professional with a personal touch.

Schroder Construction LLC repaired settling cracks in our home -- and did so beautifully. They also repaired pocket doors that the original builder had incorrectly installed. Doors work great now! They are professional, friendly, and kept us informed each step of the way. We liked their work so much that we've currently hired them to enclose our screened in porch. Thanks!

He and his crew did an excellent job and the price was reasonable. We will most certainly call on them again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
