Lynette is wonderful! She feeds our horses, cow and cats and lets us know when anything seems off. And sometimes she just checks in to let us know all is well. Our fence was down one time and she took care of it for us. She also checks to make sure we made it home to make sure we don't need her again. I've also had to contact her at last minute to see if she can feed for me and she is always happy to oblige. I've even referred her to our neighbors and they love her as well.

My pups started off with learning to leash walk and some tricks. We decided to board the youngest one to better learn inside manners and transferred that training to the other when she came home. He was also very helpful boarding her when we got both fixed to help keep calm through their recovery. And he was always quick to answer my texts with real-time pics when I wanted to check-in. Very informative to what I needed to do to work on their separation anxiety. He even forwards relevant emails he gets from different sites.

Hedy has been home four days after her boarding & training. We have taken several long walks and she no longer strains on her lead, nor lunges at passing cars. She also sits on command, waits before entering or exiting openings until she receives a release, and shows significant progress in getting along with our older dog. My wife and I are very pleased with the training results for Hedy from Artemis, are pleased to give our recommendation of the Artemis Dog Training and Boarding! Harry & Karen Sivess

Brandon did a great job training my dog, Tobias. He took the time and was patient with my boxer/lab mix. Tobias had a large problem with obeying my commands in public with distractions. He now is able to focus on me! I just need to keep up all the hard work Brandon put in! Thank you Brandon for everything!

"Finding The Pooch Patio was my greatest find yet! Thanks to Pooch Patio, Patches, my two year old shih-tzu, can get all his energy out during the day at doggie daycare in a friendly, clean, safe, and fun environment. I leave him there without ever worrying about his safety. In addition, Patches gets groomed and bathed at Pooch Patio, always coming out smelling great and looking handsome! But, that’s not all! Pooch Patio is also my first choice when I need to board Patches overnight when I leave town. He has the freedom to play at day care and isn’t locked up in a cage all day, and he is with dog lovers who care about him. What more can I ask for in a home away from home for my baby boy? Not much! I highly recommend Pooch Patio. There’s no other place like it, and your dog will love it there!"

Kimberly and her team do an outstanding job with our little Boston Terrier, Chester, who is always excited to see them and runs right in when they take him back so he can play. He is so happy to see us when we pick him up which is a testament to how well he is treated by everyone there. We continue to be extremely confident that he will be well cared for, especially given his "special needs" with his allergy medications. Thanks to the team at Boarding Bungalow!

We did a board and train with our German Shepherd for 6 1/2 weeks and it was absolutely phenomenal! Hallie came back a completely different dog. Brian and Heather took care of our girl and kept us updated all the time. We enjoyed our visits with her and we're extremely impressed with everything that she was taught.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

  • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
  • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
    • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
    • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
    • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
  • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
    • Horse training: $20 per session.
    • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
    • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
    • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.
