Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

Inquired on a consult and received a call a day or two later that I could not take, so I declined the call with a text message- and was sent a text that it was Mr Reed calling. I text him back that I couldn't talk and to email me if he could do the few things we needed in an attorney. I did not get a response so I replied to his text the next day only to get a very rude response about him having no expectation to email me and if I couldn't return his call, we are not a good fit. Not much time had passed between the communication. We will not be doing business together.
The Reed Law Group, PLLC's reply
One always appreciates the opportunity for feedback, whether positive or negative, all are an opportunity for growth. The comments conveyed to the prospect Rita L. were never meant to be disrespectful and hence, the basis for requesting verbal interaction was actually to avoid miscommunication as will be explained herein below. Regarding this matter, Rita L. was quoted on a bankruptcy matter 4 months ago. A few days ago, a message from Thumbtack was received, and when I opened Thumbtack, it said the file was cancelled, so I thought it may have been a glitch that sent Rita L.'s message again, or it may have been SPAM. Thereafter, I received a direct request via my website from Rita L. that she was still interested in representation. Her message specified to e-mail or call, so the next business day I called and left a voicemail. Almost immediately thereafter, Rita L. responded via text, "Can't talk now. What's up." I was aware that Rita L. did not know who I was so I responded specifying "This is attorney Anthony Reed. I was calling to discuss your bankruptcy matter." Rita L. responded, "ita78@gmail.com". I did not respond to the last message because I expected Rita L. to check my voicemail and return the call since texting and e-mail are very impersonal and cannot/do not offer any context to messages, and additionally much more information can be discerned and disseminated by speaking than texting or e-mailing and my text had mentioned I wanted to discuss her case. Nevertheless, the following day, Rita L. texted again, "I haven't received an e-mail. Would we not be a good fit?" I responded, "I did not have an expectation to send an e-mail. My expectation was to do a phone consultation. If you do not wish to return my call, then no we would not be a good fit." I have not sent any further communication prior to this message. Rita L. commented after my last text, "Well that's not very nice. I had asked a question above after you called yesterday. Thank you for your time. We certainly are NOT a good fit." Then, "Your rude". It would be fair to say that both parties can share in the miscommunication that occurred here. As a legal professional, clear and concise communication is vital. I would say I truly prefer for first communication with a prospect to occur via phone, and often work after hours and weekends to facilitate client needs and adhere to client expectations in addition to work-out and payment plans for client's to help as needed. Customer service is tantamount. This is the first negative comment I have received on Thumbtack, and hopefully, with a more concerted effort to ensure messages are clearly conveyed, it will be the last.
