The movers, Reyes and Daniel were AMAZING. They were so fast, so professional, and made the experience fun. At one point I accidently packed my keys to my new apartment into a box which was loaded into the truck! They were so understanding and so nice about it! They even helped me look! I have never had a good experience with movers. I wouldn't recommend any other company. Use this company if you're looking for exceptional work at a ridiculously great price. For 4 hours of work I was charged what 3 other moving companies quotes me for 2 hours of work. Best moving company ever! So reliable! So awesome!

Andy's Moving Company was great! 10/10 would hire again and will definitely recommend to my friends. They were on time, polite, professional, and so patient with us as we moved into a loft in downtown Dallas. Our freight elevator situation was less than ideal, and they handled everything perfectly. All of our stuff made it in one piece with zero damage. Thanks guys!

The gentleman that showed up to move my house worked carefully and quickly. Some moving companies will drag their feet because they are getting paid by the hour, these guys finished 3 hours early. Would recommend

I have been on thumbtack for a few years now and used pro services on here multiple times but this is the first time I really felt complete satisfaction with the work done. Starting from ease of scheduling the move with Jackey to punctuality, work quality and professionalism shown by Martin with helping us with move was excellent. We sold our house and we were having to move our luggage to a storage place and an apartment and the whole process went very smoothly and efficiently. Martin went above and beyond the work they were hired from including making time to come back the next day to move furniture that had to be dumped and offering a complimentary move-out clean on top of it! I already know who am going to call for moving services when we are ready to move into our new house. Well done! Great job!!

HIGHLY recommend to others. I've used a few moving companies now and I have to say this is one of the best ones I've hired thus far. They were very prompt, friendly and got the job done quickly. There was a very small ding on the furniture and they did tell me about it (didn't bother me at all) but I thought it was nice that they told me. Would highly recommend to others!

Clearly a top-notch moving company. Very responsive to calls, exactly on-time arrival, and I couldn't have asked for more regarding professionalism. I didn't have much to move, but they took care of my things as if they were their own - great care to protect my belongs and my home. Definitely above and beyond. We're not looking elsewhere the next time we have to move.

Very reliable! I hired them to move an armoire. The team was on time, had a professional appearance, very friendly. They made sure to wrap the furniture for me so it was thoroughly protected. They made sure to take their time and go slowly so that my furniture would be moved in one piece! The price of the job was very competitive, much more affordable than big-name moving companies. I will definitely be calling them for a quote when it's time to move to a new apartment.

Anna was great! We were moving out of one house and into a new house and I needed the old house professionally cleaned. She showed up on time and moved quickly with cleaning. The house was so clean that it was in better condition than when I first moved in the home. I will be keeping Anna in mind for cleaning our new home!

I needed a piano moved to my sons apartment at college. I live in a different city which made it difficult to help coordinate the move. Dugan handled it all & was extremely friendly & helpful. The prices were at least half of what I was quoted by other companies. We were only moving it a few blocks & their prices were very reasonable.

As many folks have mentioned, moving is a ubiquitously hated part of life. But, in all honesty, Great Nation Moving makes it relatively painless. I have used many moving companies in my life but Great Nation and the moving team beat all the expectations. We moved to New England, and they did an awesome job. Came right on time, and did a quality job with unloading and setting up our belongings. We were packed and loaded in one day and delivered within 5 days without any scratches, dents, or missing items. They were on budget, nothing hidden, and the crew was fantastic and hard working. I Highly recommend Great Nation for a long distance move.

This company is by far the best moving company ever. Their customer service is amazing. The crew took care of your stuff and better than I could've asked. They are fast but taking care of every detail and wrapped everything in blankets and wrap. The crew was very respectful and all our belongings were delivered and located in their spot at our new home. They packed and unpacked everything for us. Nothing lost, nothing broke. Totally worth the price!!! I won't use any other mover company from now on!!

Saul and Felix did an amazing job today unloading my shipping container into a storage unit. They also loaded a U-Haul and brought it to my house. They both made the whole experience so easy. Saul is extremely responsive and patient. I had to delay my move multiple times because of delivery delays. He stayed professional and patient the entire time. I have several moves coming up and I will definitely be using them again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
