He phoned in less than 5 minutes of the posting and explained how my light fixture was dripping water and gave a few options on repair with quotes. Assured that this was not a fire hazard to just leave the light "off" and that the breaker was safe to be "on", I slept well with only the main water cut-off. Arturo arrived at 8:15 the next morning and had the part with him, by 9:00 he was finished.... inspection, photos of attic damage, consultation, AND the repair was completed with after photo. Oh, did I mention the request was put out at 10:14 pm. Arturo and I were discussing that there were 2 additional locations that were in extreme conditions and that when I left the house for Christmas travel to shut-off the house line. His repair would be ok for maybe 2 years - pending many variables. However the other 2 were critical to address for prevention of ceiling staining, and having to again turn off the main supply -- most likely with bad event timing. (The home was built in 1978.)
I stated that I had been concerned with him getting a part on the way over and that it would be worth $50-60 additional to install a "patch" on the 2 locations. He then flew over to all the Friday Christmas traffic to Home Depot, and returned to complete the additional work. I asked how much and he only wanted the original bid of $150.00; and, the entire job was completed in less than 2 hours.
Other plumbers replied to my bid request, and one was $249.00; I wonder what he would have charged for the additional repairs.
We replaced the water heater in 2002 and have since had a few plumbers, seldom the same one twice. Most of them are concerned "AND, when will you be replacing the Water Heater?" Arturo never mentioned it. He knew professionally that of I was happy with the job today, he would be unforgettable and I would be sending referrals. Arturo didn't know our HOA (closed) facebook page has neighbor referrals.
I mentioned to him that I wanted gas fireplace logs in January-February when they go on sale; and he gave a very reasonable price for the install.
I am planning my budget, and... water heater first, then the FP; and then I get the new gas range top, he'll be back.
This is my 4th Thumbtack project and they have all been wonderful. When the "Houston Tax Day Flood 2016" happened, I contacted a local ind. carpet guy and he was "flooded" with his established customers; the carpet guy suggested I use Thumbtack for the damage-restoration, as he was in the application process and the requirements were very high standards.
Arturo, THANK YOU so very much! see you next year,
Michelle Frank (TAMU'88)
