I contacted multiple contractors for major home renovation in Pearland. Out of all those Juan Perez JLD services stands out. He took his time to explain everything, provided me with places to buy material at wholesale prices and did a great job. He did my wood flooring, tile, carpet, kitchen/bathroom quartz, vanities, garage export, patio tile etc. His whole team is amazing. I am very happy with his services and glad that I found Juan Perez and will definitely used his services in the future. Don’t hesitate to hire him for all your home renovation needs.

Prompt timing, removed spots very well. A couple of extra wet spots & residue on tile floor from hoses that prevented a five star rating. Would use again.

I cannot say enough good things about Fred Carpet and Flooring: absolutely the most responsive and conscientious contractor I have had the pleasure of working with. We had a large job-replace carpet of entire second floor with laminate flooring, including stairs, as well as master bedroom and two closets. The workmanship is excellent. His bid was excellent and no surprise costs. I really feel like I got an excellent value for his work. Very punctual, organized, respectful of household and very careful with moving pieces of furniture. I am SO happy I found Fred. He is very skilled and it shows. Look NO FURTHER for a flooring contractor!!

Isaac came even before I arrived for the edtimate. He provided professional opinions and suggestions. The price for painting walls and replacing carpet floor with laminate is reasonable. Project was completed nicely as scheduled. He even helped with pick-up of materials. We definitely will use his service again.

Hands Down! best service in town for quality floor installation. I've dealt with several floor installers thru out the years. I've never had a crew to be as professional and good as Texas Wood Flooring Service LLC. I would recommend this installer over any or all that you may be considering to hire. Eduardo, Ever, & Chopa went over and beyond their contractual obligation to please me.

Robert was a professional and did an excellent job on the project. He worked on our curved stairs and upstairs playing area. Robert took the time to explain the different types of wood that works best for our house, he brought samples to show us the different colors and how it matches the floors we had downstairs. He proceeded to completing the project and finished as promised. Will recommend him to anyone looking to install wood floors.

Everyone I came in contact with at Tell Projects was highly professional, courteous, and patiently answered all my questions during our recent shower remodel. The work was completed on time, exactly as promised, and exactly at the cost quoted. The crew that came to my home were all Tell Projects employees, not outside contractors; and the same crew of plumbers, painters, tile installers and glass installers worked the entire project from start to finish. The finished work is beautiful and we couldn't be happier. I look forward to working with them on my next project.

He is a life saver! Very reasonable pricing, great quality work and he doesn't leave until the job is done. I will definitely go to Robert for any futures house repair. My laminate floors looked horrible before he saved it!

We found out the fence was included in our pool build, but I had to leave a review. Why? Because the professionalism and the over all experience we had getting a quote from Atlas was just amazing. In fact we already talked with them about doing our floors, adding attic stairs, and finishing out a storage room. If your looking for someone you can trust call these guys, you won't be disappointed. Thanks John, we look forward to working with you on our future projects.

I am very impressed with David at AAA Tile Masters, he did an incredible job on my tile floors and travertine. I thought both were beyond repair. What is most impressive, is that he worked with me to get the exact color of the grout that I wanted, until I was satisfied. The cleaning and polishing of the travertine is outstanding. It looks like I have new floors - with none of the cost and hassle of an install. I cannot thank David enough, for his professionalism and the fantastic job he did. He is fabulous, professional, very customer-oriented, does everything he says he will do.

My husband and I would totally recommend a Texas renovation and will use them again for any future work that will be needed in our home.

Amazing work. Not only did I receive the best quote, he did an amazing job. He was detailed in what I needed for the job, picked up my materials, and what he was going to do. He gave me visuals of my options for the tile pattern (direction). He removed my vinyl flooring from the kitchen, moved appliances around as needed, He was clean, his work was clean, did not leave a mess. Very pleased. Saul is courteous and a very good person. Have already referred him, and would hire him again Had a backsplash installed and tile work in the kitchen .

I hired Reinel's crew for replacing the floor of my house after 10 years with the old one! I'm feel really pleasant and happy with the finished project because it makes me feel almost in a new house! The process of removing and installing was almost seemless for me, quick work, expertise crew, high quality products..... I did a nice decision after choosing Floor Coverings! Thanks Reinel for your valuable work. The price is reliable and as per the budgetary estimate, the same amount was my final payment!! So not surprises with additional costs. Reinel honors his numbers.

Wonderful results! I have a long list of repairs needed, now I found someone that I can rehire! Silvestre is here with baseboards and quarter round due to a laundry overfill, (a 19 yr old part wore-out). my flood occurred the Saturday before the Houston Flood (4-18-2016) and I was in panic for a true carpenter -- to beat the rush. my house does not have a single right angle corner ( old homes in a MUD just don't get fine details) so, all the sheetrock is wacky and Silvestre did an impressive job with getting the corners to look "right". I put out the request on a Thursday, and Silvestre was available for the next day; beautiful work was completed before 5 on Friday. The flood restoration co that is "asthma friendly" and wears yellow and black (local Webster office) was a nightmare! and then, the washer part was not "defective". The baseboards from Brothers Construction Co were simple and stress-free, just how business should be. Silvestre Chavez is amazing, I wish I found him when we bought our home in 1992. I have hired so many people for almost every kind of job and I don't recall the last time I was this happy with quality workmanship. a few years ago I got a really poor exterior paint job, I so truly WISH I had known Silvestre. I have previously had two different BIG NAME companies install tile, and unhappy with both finished rooms... that I get to live with ... (one the salesman did not discuss lay-out pattern-down a long hallway; and, the second one had half of the order with (Mohawk) cosmetic flaws,(master closets were empty) as well as did not dry fit for approval on room center... so they pulled up wet tile ... and I also wish the majority of their cosmetic tile issue was all in the closets. I have learned so much. My new breakfast and laundry baseboards look great! and if we do not relocate in the next 24 months... and do get to stay.... guess who get my kitchen floor and cabinet work... thank you, Brothers Construction Company for such wonderful, fast and professional service. Tim has done a good deal of work at my home, all of it was outstanding craftsmanship. He pays close attention to detail and makes sure each job is done correctly. He is honest (I gave him a key) and dependable, which can be a rare commodity these days. Tim re-did my whole kitchen, building custom cabinets, laying hardwood floors, painting, setting in my appliances, and building an island. I absolutely love my kitchen as do all who come see it. I would call Tim to do work for me any day, any time. His prices are fair and his work is quality. I know once this news gets out, I won't be able to get Tim to come back and do more jobs for me! If you need to ask about any more details of Tim's work, email me. He can't be beat;and your job will end up looking like it was done with attention to detail and skill.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
