Ms. Barb was absolutely AMAZING! From the very beginning she was accommodating, flexible and very helpful with coordinating all that had to be accomplished in a tight time frame. We planned our wedding from Baltimore MD so it was so nice to have someone with exceptional knowledge of the area, vendors, etc... to help us pull off the perfect day! We cannot express how thankful we were to have her as part of our special day! We highly recommend her services for any type of wedding or other event. Simply awesome! :)

I met Amber randomly while out with friends one afternoon. She mentioned she was a wedding planner which was serendipitous because my friends and I were out actually attempting to figure out the first couple steps in planning my own wedding. How perfect! I gave her a call when I was able to figure out my budget and she completely worked with me. My situation was a little different in that I had a day of coordinator but just needed someone to help me figure out wedding resources, come up with ideas, create a budget and resource vendors in that budget (I'm the type of person that doesn't even know what I like with decor, flowers, etc). She was fantastic. Always responsive and always considerate of our situation. It was the best feeling going into the day of and knowing that I had everything completely prepared with Amber's help. I would highly recommend her. And luckily, I got a friend out of it!

Thank you Amberley & Blue Boot Events!!! I could not have had such a more beautiful, stress free experience planning my wedding with Amberley & Blue Boot Events. They lead me through the entire process, (and what a process a night like that is), with grace and ease. After doing my research and speaking with a handful of different planners, a friend of the family who had also had an excellent experience with her, referred me to Blue Boot Events. I met with Amberley and purchased her A-Z package for a very reasonable price. The enthusiasm, knowledge, and professionalism that she brought to the planning was crucial as I would have been completely lost with all the "To Do"'s there were. I would definitely recommend Amberley and her team to anyone who is planning any type of event. Major Kuddoz!!! - HappyWifeForever

I hired Amanda to be my On the Day Coordinator. I live in London and the wedding was in Austin so we had a few international calls and met once before the wedding. Amanda was an expert professional, polite and on top of everything. The timeline she provided at the beginning was my savior and she helped me work out a few tricky items in the build up. The whole day ran to time (or slightly ahead of schedule). She was also hugely enjoyable to be around and made everything feel easy. I would highly recommend her.

There aren't enough words to describe how wonderful Jane is! Having her be part of our day was one of the best wedding planning decisions we made. As gay women, choosing vendors who made us feel comfortable was even more important to us. When we first met Jane she didn't even bat an eye at two ladies marrying each other. We had already had the majority of our planning set, but Jane was there when we were flipping out or when plans fell through. Specifically, we had planned an outdoor ceremony in the park, but hurricane Patricia vetoed that. Jane jumped right in during our wedding weekend and came up with a plan B and made sure all of our vendors knew what was going on so my wife and I could enjoy our weekend with our out-of-town guests. Jane really was incredibly invaluable!

Bekah worked as the event planner for my wedding in 2014. I pulled in an event planner fairly late in the process and Bekah did a great job with moving forward with things I had set in motion. She was incredibly responsive and patient with me, the bride, but took charge with the vendors and managing all of that. On the day of the wedding she did a great job of shielding me from the chaos. I would recommend Bekah and would also use her for other events.

I decided to have a wedding of the day coordinator 3 months before my wedding when I started having nightmares about my wedding gone wrong. I found Michelle via thumbtack. I'm so lucky I chose the right one over so many listed in the internet. I just hope that I got her at the planning phase of my wedding so I wouldn't have a hard time researching & comparing for the best wedding vendors by myself. She has a very good list of the preferred wedding vendors. Michelle has such a pleasing personality & easy to work with. She's not pushy & acted upon on what I envisioned my wedding to be. She worked within my budget. She's very professional & was prompt with her email responses. On my wedding day she executed it perfectly! The Church ceremony was solemn. The reception was organized, romantic, & beautifully decorated. I was overflowing with happiness! It was so stress free for me & for my families! We all just enjoyed the special day. My mother & mother-in-law even said that she really did a wonderful job! She was just at the background & even attended to my guests' needs. Kudos to Michelle! Again, my heartfelt gratitude! I definitely recommend her for your special event!

I was a very "hands off" bride as I was accepted into law school after my husband and I already set our wedding day. Emmetria connected us with a fabulous caterer (Queenie's Delectable Delights) and super awesome photographers (Mia & Taffy). I needed a wedding planner that could literally just tell me when to show up and what to do (especially after I learned that my midterms were scheduled to begin the Monday AFTER my wedding weekend). We had a fabulous wedding. I am still getting compliments from our guests on the fact that our ceremony and reception were so well coordinated. I went "bridezilla in reverse" because I was so apathetic about the details of my wedding the closer the date approached. I had to step away from 95% of the planning 60-days out from the date to prepare for my first semester of law school. I do not recommend starting law school and getting married at the same time; but, if you must, your wedding is safe with Emmetria. Also, we live in Houston and Emmetria lives in Austin. She drove to Houston for our initial consultation and after we hired her, I never felt like I was working with an out-of-town wedding planner. Ahh Emmetria, I know I gave her hell, but she was 100% professional from beginning to end. My husband and I had several "freak out" moments but Emmetria let our irrational moments of insanity slide right off her shoulders.

Leigh was organized and thorough. She kept everyone on time and in line. She was a leader and likeable to all. Our wedding went smooth and basically without a hitch all due to Leigh's hard work. I highly recommend Leigh for anyone that wants to take the pressure off planning a wedding. Leigh was a pleasure to work with and we wish her the best!

I can't say enough about Horeshu Events and their wonderful staff. They have been so helpful with even the smallest of details! Camilea has helped me with every step of the design elements for my save the dates and invitations, as well as helped me decide on décor for the ceremony/reception. Kaytee has been incredibly beneficial to have for day of planning, and even the day before - she found our rehearsal dinner site! Did I mention it's a destination wedding?! Their personalities are so easy to get along with, by the end of the planning, they feel like your best friends - not your planners! They think of every detail and offer suggestions, while catering to exactly what you want. Their input has been so valuable to me over this process. Thank you Horeshu Events for all your help, I couldn't have done it without you!

Lindsay is amazing at what she does. She was with me every step of the way when planning my wedding. She has lots of connections; so it was easy to fit my budget. My wedding budget was pretty tight. And she managed to find vendors that fit my budget and fit my expectations. She was constantly helping me set up meetings to fit my schedule. The ceremony/reception was beautiful and ran smoothly. Lindsay did everything from helping with décor, coordinating staff, helping me with my bustle and more. She has an amazing heart, is professional and truly loves what she does. I was fortunate to have her as my wedding coordinator. She made it a day I will always remember.

About

We begin our planning with a brainstorming session. We talk about all the possibilities for your event and then start putting it all down in writing. We create a "must have" list and a "wish list." After we have discussed all of the needs, wants and desires, we work to create a budget with you. We will assist you in creating a personal design theme around your wedding or event, including what vendors you'll need, decorations, floral packages you'd like to consider, music, etc. So many couples spend time and energy going over budget, and still, because there was no one to follow through the day of the wedding, things fall apart. We, at A Fairytale Wedding, will most definitely keep everything flowing. Days, months, and years later, you will remember how A Fairytale Wedding was crucial in making your wedding day truly what you wished and expected. We will assist you at your wedding to make sure that all your ideas happen according to plan, attending to all the needs of the wedding party.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

Do I need a wedding day coordinator?

Even if you’ve handled every detail of planning your wedding, you might appreciate having a day-of wedding coordinator in your corner. Usually, the coordinator meets with you a few weeks before your wedding to put together a detailed timeline of everything that needs to happen on your wedding day. Then, on the big day, the coordinator makes sure everything goes according to plan — and handles any emergencies that pop up, such as party crashers, missing tuxedos, late vendors, disappearing bridal party members and more. Most wedding coordinators also handle:

  • Distributing the wedding day timeline to all of your vendors.
  • Coordinating all of your vendors, including the photographer, florist and baker.
  • Conducting the wedding rehearsal.
  • Helping the bride and her wedding party get dressed and take photos.
  • Checking floor plans, lighting levels, cake placement, menus, favors and more.
  • Collecting the wedding gifts and keeping personal items safe and accounted for.

Even if you don’t think you need a wedding coordinator, check with your venue. Some require that couples hire a day-of wedding coordinator for the day of the event.

How much does it cost for a wedding planner?

Wedding planning is a full-time job — unless you hire a professional to handle the hard work for you. The cost for a wedding planner will depend on the level of service you desire. The least expensive wedding planner option is day-of coordination, then partial service, then full-service.

The national average cost for wedding planning is between $990 and $1,300. Costs are greatly affected by region, with rural or smaller-town wedding planners often far more affordable than planners in higher-cost cities. Here are some examples of the various levels of wedding planning and their potential average costs:

  • Day-of-wedding coordination: $800-$1,700. Day-of services can include the planner finalizing all details, creating a timeline, confirming vendors and overseeing all setup, day-of activities, and cleanup. The couple does all the front-end planning and contracts all the vendors. Time commitment could be about 15-25 hours, depending on pricing.
  • Partial service: $1,500-$3,800. Here the planner works with the couple from the beginning, helping contract vendors, creating a timeline, and overseeing all details of day-of execution. Time commitment could be about 30-60 hours, depending on package and pricing.
  • Full service: $3,500-$8,000 or more. Here the professional handles all wedding and planning details including working on design, securing rentals, getting the venue and vendors, and handling complete execution of the event. Time commitment could be 50-150 hours or more, depending on package and pricing.
  • Consulting: $50-$150 per hour for design, vendor, reception and other wedding planning consultation.

How much do day-of wedding coordinators cost?

A day-of wedding coordinator makes sure that every detail of your wedding day goes off without a hitch, and deals quickly and quietly with any last-minute emergencies. For many brides, the day-of wedding coordinator is their best investment! The average national cost for a wedding coordinator is $800 to $1,000. Although full-service wedding coordinators often charge a percentage of the total wedding budget, most day-of coordinators charge a flat fee plus an additional hourly fee if the day runs long. For example, a 15-hour day-of coordination costs an average of $600, plus an additional $45 per hour if the coordinator works more than the planned 15 hours. Another option is to hire a coordinator to manage the last-minute details leading up to the event; for example, 25 hours of month-of coordination costs an average of $1,200. Several factors affect the cost of day-of coordination, including the region, the planner’s experience, and the specifics of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in two different locations, expect to pay more than if they’re in the same place. Also, extra details, such as managing food trucks or setting up snacks in addition to the meal, will increase the cost.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
