Joao Crus' jiu-jitsu school is by far the best martial arts program/instruction that I've experienced. However, comparing Joaos program to other martial arts schools is doing his school a disservice. Of course jiu-jitsu offers a great form of self-defense and physical discipline. However, Joaos curriculum is so much more than a method of self-defense. He advocates and provides practical tools (through jiu-jitsu) to help his students develop essential life skills (problem solving, performing under pressure, taking responsibility for personal decisions to name a few). Both my son and I have been training with Joao for several years and look forward to many more years of training at his academy.

Both of my daughters have been attending Bell Sport Karate for several years. Stacey is an excellent instructor, perfectly balancing disciple and nurturing. My girls have learned to push themselves and to strive for excellence. The classes offer a great balance of art, sport, and self-defense. Advancement only comes with work, unlike other classes where you basically pay for the next color belt. My girls have learned karate, of course, but they have also learned confidence and discipline. Growing up I was always athletic and in shape. Never in a million years would I have EVER thought I would have gained the weight I did and along with the weight came the depression and self loathing. I had 2 kids and it just seemed that the weight just kept adding up and I fell deeper into a hole. I tried going to the gym and "dieting" a few times only to end the in failure and more self loathing and gaining the little weight I lost back plus some. Finally one day it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't run up the stairs with my then 5 year old and 1 year old. I have been overweight and unhappy now for 8 years and if I was to start loving my body and feeling like my old self again the change needed to start in my mind. I decided to seek help with Reggie. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE! I still tear up with gratitude and endless appreciation for what he has helped me accomplish. He didn't give me some cookie cutter work out plan like most trainers give all their clients. No. Reggie individualized my workout plan and worked with MY goals and body type. He NEVER gave up on me and constantly checked in to make sure I was keepin up with my diet and was so dedicated in all my workouts. He always give 110%. He was hard on me but praised me and motivated me when I accomplished any "small" goal. He literally was with me EVERY step of my 70 lb weight loss. I never had ANY saggy skin either because of how he trained me and the nutrition that I was consuming. Weight literally FELL off of me. I plateaued twice but he worked through it with me and kept motivating me and changing up my routine. I have ADD and get bored fast. Each and every one his workouts with me were different and exciting. I can never thank you ENOUGH for what you have done for me. You are ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TRAINER IVE EVER MET. He changed my life.
