Enoch installed 2 outdoor sconces on brick on each side of our garage door. The technician admitted he'd never done that job to code by installing a junction box in brick, so I wasn't comfortable being the 1st. They did all the wiring and mounted the lights using the fixture brackets and tapcons into the brick instead. Everything worked and looked great after working around a couple of architectural challenges (our house is new and reinforced with a header across the entire garage door wall). Pros: Quick, honest, good communication, fair pricing Cons: Bids to repair the drywall afterwards are coming in higher than the lighting installation

Jason was great. He showed up when expected, installed the required items fast and in an efficient way and fixed several wiring issues with our furnace. Only charged the service call few of $49 but did much more than was required. Would definitely call them again.

Shawn was amazing! He was at our house within 60 minutes of submitting my ThumbTack request! How's that for rapid service!? Our exterior Condenser/Fan was low on Freon, and our attic Air Handler's fan was off. Shawn fixed both issues, and our upstairs is cool again!

Roy was awesome. His price was very competitive and he was thorough during the process. We got a new furnace and coil to match the compressor outside. The system is working very well now and we'll definitely have him back out to continue service in the future.

Superior AC & Heat inspected my furnace on Monday and determine that I needed to replace the furnace. Since I was also desiring to add AC to my home, I decided to bundled both projects and get a new furnace and AC Unit together. The team arrive at my home Wednesday morning at 7:45 am; the new furnace was installed by 1:00 pm and they completed the AC Unit, tested it and cleaned up by 4:30 pm. Great work; I highly recommend them.

We had water leaking out of our furnace in the hall closet. David came at the end of the day, even tho he had been working all day in Dallas, and fixed the leak. He also gave us reasons why it was leaking and what we could expect in the future since it is an older unit. I would call David back for any other problems with our ac and feel comfortable that he could take care of it.

Gerardo was very professional and kept us informed of what he was doing and what was needed. Our house is now the warmest it has been since we purchased it 3 years ago! And all of this was done on a Saturday morning with below freezing temps! We are very thankful and will be using Gerardo of True Comfort again when have the money to replace the furnace altogether.

My AC went out yesterday and I got a quote from AIRTEX and picked them because their prices were reasonable for diagnostics, and the price per lb for R410A was much cheaper than anyone else was able to quote. I was given a time of 8:30-9:30 in the morning and they arrived within the allotted time period, diagnosed the issue quickly and checked my system from the compressor outside to the heat exchange in the attic. They worked hard in the heat and completed the job in a timely manner. As for value. Hard to say, I don't know how much AC repair generally costs for the job however it seems to be in line with that people have quoted for other repairs. They also changed out my filter while they were in attic. Overall I have been very happy and will certainly use AIRTEX again should I have any other issues. I feel my system is now going to be able to get me through another Texas summer.

Ismael is fantastic. My AC went out Thursday night, he came out Friday, by Saturday night we had a new unit installed. He was on time to the estimate appoint and on install day. He gave a VERY realistic estimate on price and the amount of time he would take getting the new unit. This is by far the most seamless home repair we have had in the last year! Thank you!!

I appreciated the quick response to my need to install a smart thermostat. I had taken the old one down, and then found myself in a spot where I could not complete the install myself. A technician was out within an hour, diagnosed what needed to be done, gave me a break down of the pricing, and then got it done. TemperaturePro will be the first people I call when I need work done next.

I requested the cleaning for my atttic, and they answered really fast. They did an appointment for the next day and they came on time. First thing they did was an inspection to find the entry points for rodents and they sealed them with metal nets, after they cleaned and sanitized the attic. Finally they put the new insulation. My attic is so clean and free of rodents. I totally recommend this company.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

    • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
    • The temperature cannot be regulated.
    • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
    • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
    • The thermostat isn’t working.
    • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
