Mr. Torrado reached out to me on Thumbtack when we needed an experienced professional to complete our 2016 taxes. I was concerned at first because of his profession as an accountant. However the positive reviews and qualifications presented alleviated those concerns. He has 20 years of experience in bookkeeping and taxes and is insured for general liability, "Errors and Omissions" and "Data Protection/Identity Theft". After a brief introduction and agreement to terms, I was able to upload my documentation via a secure and encrypted portal. The process was quick and convenient. As a busy professional, I don't have the time to sit down at an office to get taxes completed. We were able to get most questions addressed via phone and email. Mr. Torrado was very professional and responsive in correcting minor issues. He was able to provide a detailed breakdown of our 2016 federal taxes return before filing for us. We would recommend his services. If you need to meet to discuss matters, he is willing to travel to your home or work.

Darius was very prompt in answering my request. He reached out to talk on the phone to get a better understanding of what I needed. Due to the geographic distance I decided not to use this firm and told Darius. He still was willing to refer me to colleagues, even though he didn't profit. I would definitively recommend him, and I would use him if the distance was closer.

We were referred to Imran 3 days prior to the tax deadline. Imran agreed to meet us on the Sunday to obtain our information, educate us on the process and set expectations. Of course we were missing some documentation, so Imran provided a secure portal to transmit additional documents. We also created our small business in July of 2016, so Imran explained all of the information we would need to file for our business (a service we did not receive from our registered agent). As new business owners, it was a life saver to have Imran as our accountant. We avoided missing critical steps in the filing process and obtained a partner for the years to come. We highly recommend him for accounting needs. Thanks a million Imran!!!

Kat and her team are the definition of professionals. I initially hired KM Accountants only to do the monthly reconciliations in QuickBooks but when my bookkeeper gave me her notice and left, Kat's team became my bookkeepers. They handle everything my bookkeeper used to do. My business needs a full time bookkeeper and I used to pay one $15 per hour. When I switch to Kat, she priced me at $1,800 which is a $600 saving a month from a CPA. I also didn't realize how much of my accounting was being handled incorrectly. After a couple of months I started getting these management reports with awesome KPIs I never knew existed. Hire KM Accountants. HIRE KM ACCOUNTANTS! You will not regret it.

I’m an online re-seller and book-keeping (subsequently financials and taxes) for me got too complex. Codex Express was able to do my book-keeping for the price of the accounting software I was using. I really liked the fact that I didn’t have to pay for any software and they just provided the information I needed. I’d recommend them to anyone.

About

I provide a variety of non attest accounting services, such as tax preparation, building and maintaining general ledgers in numerous software packages, as well as cost and manufacturing accounting. I built and maintained the general ledger as general accounting supervisor for a 2-plant, 500-employee division of Siemens, which manufactured, shipped, and installed airport baggage, handling systems as well as developed the percent-complete accounting system that was still in use when I left. I have maintained the books for a wide variety of clients, from farms to restaurants to car repair shops to wealthy individuals.

About

I am now a graduate school student in accounting at UT-Dallas. I have six years of accounting background. I have some accounting working experience and tax return experience. I can use some accounting software (QuickBooks and SAP).

About

I am an accountant for a publically registered real estate investment company. Although I consider myself to be an utmost professional, I am very creative and outgoing. Many individuals intrinsically think of accountants as very introverted individuals, but I definitely do not fit into that category. I certainly enjoy helping others in any capacity needed in my spare time. Some of my strengths are in research and financial analysis and creative marketing in conjunction with data entry, research and general office administrative work. I do enjoy painting and crafting. After all, Pinterest is the best thing to come around since sliced bread. Ultimately, I always strive to be timely, and I put forth a 100% effort in all that I take on.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who can file my taxes?

Any individual with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN) is eligible to file your income taxes on your behalf. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they will be the best candidate to provide the help you need with your income tax preparation. The IRS explains that CPAs, attorneys and enrolled agents are all allowed to legally represent their clients before the IRS. They have a more thorough understanding of tax code than an individual operating solely with a PTIN or an Annual Filing Season Program participant who provides their services on a volunteer basis. Consider the complexity of your tax return and what level of expertise you’ll require. Before entrusting someone with your private financial and personal information, do some research on their qualifications. The IRS has a searchable database where you can verify the background and credentials of your income tax preparation professional. Once you have selected someone, ask about their service fees and confirm their availability. Then provide them with all the documentation they require, including W-2s, 1099s and more. Always ask to review the paperwork before it is submitted, and never sign a blank tax return.

What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

How much does it cost to get taxes done?

Hiring a professional to help with income tax preparation can be priceless. Pro help can mean no mistakes and a maximized tax return. The cost to get your income taxes done depends on the professional you hire. Tax attorneys or in-demand CPAs will often have the highest rates for their services. Next in the pricing tier are enrolled agents, who will usually have higher rates than individuals solely working with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN). Nationally, the average cost of income tax preparation ranges from $150 to $190. Income tax preparation prices can also vary based on where you live and the complexity of your tax returns. Here are some examples of average income tax preparation prices from an enrolled agent:

  • Taxpayers filing only a W-2 tax form: $50.
  • Taxpayers filing a W-2 along with additional tax forms such 1099-INT and 1098-E: $150.
  • Taxpayers with several tax forms and one or two additional considerations such as a rental property, investment transactions, K-1 income, 1099-MISC or a simple small business: $225.
  • Taxpayers with multiple activities (rentals, K-1 income, small business, etc.), several stock transactions and more: $395.

Nationally, the average hourly rate nationally for a tax prep professional ranges between $150 and $450.
