Goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I listen to the person while they tell about why they are seeking a personal trainer and what they want to accomplish. We work together to set a path to accomplish their objective for training using short, medium, and long term goals. We also assess along the path to modify their individual fitness plan. Personal training is not a one size fits all, but customized for each person. I enjoy working with a variety of people and love watching the light bulb click for them. The wow moment for them achieving something, no matter how small, that a few weeks before seemed impossible to them. I also love to hear how they have more energy and look forward to working out, which can be addictive.

Kimberly Davis has been my personal trainer for approximately one year. In that time she has proven herself to be the key to vastly increasing my fitness level. She operates differently than most other trainers. Instead of requiring super-expensive workout machines and equipment, up-selling pills and performance-enhancers, or pushing a membership at a "hundred-a-month" gym, she adapts to and trains you in the environment provided her. Whether that be your home, your backyard, the complimentary gym in your apartment complex, a community center or other public place, or indeed an elite-level gym, she trains her clients into peak performance. She is able to do this because she understands that body weight workouts are just as effective and often more so than machine-workouts. This puts her in a unique position to give you elite personal training in the comfort of your own home, even if you don't own any fitness equipment. Additionally, she teaches her clients how to maintain their fitness levels without constantly needing a personal trainer to do so. After training with Kim, if you apply yourself, you actually emerge as your own personal trainer, able to maintain your own fitness without having to spend any more money on trainers or gyms, needing only a space large enough to accommodate your own body to exercise and train in. During my time with her, I have also become familiar with several of her other clients, many of whom travel for work more often than not. They specifically sought Kim for her ability to teach them how to improve their fitness, even while on the road or in hotel rooms. Another aspect that sets Kim apart is her style of motivation. She is not the type of trainer who screams in your face, or tries to be your motivation for you. Instead, she helps you find your own motivation. She understands that if you're not your own motivation, then you won't maintain your fitness after your time with personal trainers is over. She helps you find your own inspiration, rather than seeking to be that inspiration for you. In short, I whole-heartedly recommend Kim Davis as a personal trainer for anyone who is genuinely interested in improving their fitness, and keeping it that way for the rest of their life.

I have been studying martial arts under the direction of Master Davis, Kim Davis, for over 10 years. I started the program with my daughter and have continued on to the rank of 2nd Dan Black Belt. One of the best advantages that I have experienced through training under Master Davis has been the education on the proper way to train for not only expanding strength and flexibility, but for working through therapy after an injury or accident. Through my training, I have reached my initial goals and continued to set and achieve more.

I have studied Taekwondo with Kim Davis for 15 years. She is also my personal trainer. Kim designed a series of exercises to help me rehabilitate a rotator cuff injury and has shown me exercises that are "arthritis friendly." I highly recommend Kim Davis as a personal trainer and as a martial arts instructor.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Yes. Continuing education is a must in personal training. I feel lucky to live so close to the Cooper Institute, where I can attend classes, read articles, and/or take webinars to increase my knowledge. In addition, I use information available through my membership with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I had 2 careers running in parallel for almost 25 years, corporate health care industry and martial arts. I started as a medical technologist working in a hospital lab that studied, trained, and competed in Taekwondo. I held many different jobs at Abbott Laboratories while teaching martial arts at the Grapevine Community Activities Center. Toward the end of my career at Abbott, I felt a pull to focus on my passion for sports and fitness. I retired from Abbott, and returned to school earning a Master of Science in Sports Management and attended the personal training program at the Cooper Institute. I love martial arts and personal training, which still relates to healthy living and well being.
