Visited the school looking for a judo program and I was introduced to Mr. Rodriguez as one of the judo instructors. He was being assisted by another black belt named Mr. Eby. The level of instruction from Mr. Rodriguez is exceptional. He was demonstrating an Uchi Mata technique and it was spot on. I have trained on and off in judo and when he demonstrated the technique he must have trained with someone who taught him very well because everything he showed was above board. The man knows his technique. I recommend this school for anyone that is looking for instruction from top notch instructors. Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Eby are excellent together and they compliment each other.

I am very impressed the instruction at Dominion Mixed Martial Arts Academy. I went in to visit Mr. Rodriguez, the head instructor, and he is a damn good teacher. He is very thorough and he knows his stuff. When I took the class he executed a Sambo throw on an individual that at least out weighed him by 80lbs. I think he called it a one arm shoulder throw. The big guy could not believe on how easy he executed the technique. Then Mr. Rodriguez covered several Sambo leg locks and he showed the refinements of the techniques and made sure that none of the students would get hurt. He finally demonstrated a flying arm bar and I was amazed at how smooth he did the technique. I had see the technique done on youtube several different ways but Mr. Rodriguez demonstrated it step by step the correct way it had to be executed and then he even went on to explain that in 1986 a group of Sambo athletes visited a Japanese tournament and they each executed the technique on everyone they competed with. He finally ended class and I got to speak with him. He is a very humble guy. He told me that had been training since he was 10 years and he just wanted to make sure that he would leave a lasting legacy for his son, Judah. I got to see Judah grapple with some guys after class and if Mr. Rodriguez has imparted some of his knowledge to his son you can tell. He was able to submit several other more mature athletes and I think he's only 14 years old. I left the school feeling like was taught a very traditional mixed martial arts program. The students were very friendly and they encouraged me to come back and that even if I did not sign up I was still welcome to come and visit. No alpha male syndrome and I did not get beat. When I discussed tuition Mr. Rodriguez mentioned no contracts and a very reasonable monthly rate that would allow me to train as much as I want.

Sensei Rey is a friend of mine.

He is a talented martial artist, and a patient and experienced teacher. I admire his mission to serve the community. He works in the true spirit of Budo (Martial Arts), which is to refine the student's character.

I also trust him with my own students in my absence.

Question and answer

Q. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A. When looking for a martial arts school ask if they offer martial arts training without long term contracts. Most schools will force you to sign a 2, 3 or 4 year contract to help you earn your black belt. At Dominion Martial Arts we do not believe in contracts. You pay as you train.
