Introduction: Hi! My name is Pennie Mahon, thank you for inquiring about getting your dog trained with Barks 5th Avenue- Barkology Dog Training. With over three decades experience serving the public and perfecting my trade in the dog training industry I can offer a wide variety solutions to most common behavioral issues. In addition I’ve also enjoyed much success with my personal dogs showing and competing in multiple sports such as Disc and Dock Diving winning State National and World championship titles. Through all this experience I have discovered that an individual approach to each dog, combined with owner education, is the key to success. By using reward-based training techniques, balanced with fair discipline and leadership a clear line of communication is created cultivating a cooperative and trusting relationship with your pet that allows me to succeed where others cannot. I would have loved to have added all five of the choices but was only able to pick three. Trainer Penny was very informative when I called about taking my dachshund puppy for three weeks training. Immediately she set me at ease about her abilities to handle my very stubborn puppy. Penny came to my house to pick up my puppy and to see the environment my dog will be living in. We talked and she explained what and how she would be working on and if I had anything else I needed. Penny sent pictures and updates on the progress of Sailors abilities. I was so excited when she brought her home to me. It was truly unbelievable what she got accomplished in three weeks. We went over everything Sailor was taught and how to keep up with what she has learned. Penny has trained dogs for 40 yrs. my dog came home behaving perfectly and she is only 6 months old. The icing on the cake are the movies and the still pictures she sent to us. Penny is a true dog whisper and Artist. I believe that anyone that brings their dog to her will be very happy!!

I cannot recommend Pennie enough for dog training. She is amazing! We got an 8 week old German Shepherd puppy (Brandy) that had never been socialized. She was scared of everything & everyone. We had hired a at home trainer to help us with her but only got the basics of obedience training done. That’s when we decided to hire someone who would do in board training with Brandy. What Pennie accomplished with Brandy is nothing short of a miracle. Before Brandy was an out of control pup that our other two dogs could not tolerate. Scared of anything that she had & had not seen before, including a pair of shoes, of all things! Now she is the most well behaved dog. She is calm now & is still a little leery of new people at first but after a couple of minutes she has warmed up to them. Before the training she would have run & hid. Pennie is a very caring person who loves our pets as much as we do. She worked slowly with Brandy to earn her trust & was always very patient with her. We could not be happier with the results. Brandy is now the dog we wanted her to be. If you have a dog that needs training go to Pennie.

I am beyond pleased with the training my dog Royal received with Oscar. The staff kept me in the loop at all times and Oscar kept me updated with his progress at our weekly meets. Royal is a 6 month old hyper active golden-doodle. With the help of Oscar, he has given Royal the confidence and obedience he needed. I am beyond grateful for the results and Royal has done so well since coming home. I cannot wait to bring my next pup in for training.

We took both our pups to Bark’s 5th for their 6 week training program. We went every Friday for an hour, sometimes a little over. Oscar, and the entire staff, was absolutely amazing! Oscar tailored the training to our dogs’ needs. We have one that had Resource guarding issues and that made feeding sometimes a little bit of a hassle, but now he can have treats next to or with our other pup. He won’t growl at us when we walk by him, we can take a treat away from him if needed. They are so well behaved and of course are still learning but the tools and training Oscar gave my husband and I has been invaluable. We are so pleased and highly recommend Bark’s!

How did you get started doing this type of work?
Our love of animals has drawn us together. Pennie, our founder, was a champion rodeo rider, and her love of horses eventually carried over to sport dog competitions (she is a multiple-winning frisbee dog champion). The rest, as they say, is history!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Our 3 week "board and train" package is the favorite amongst families. During this period, your dog stays with us at our facility, and has daily training sessions. We have found this to be the most successful method of training, as it allows your pooch to focus on the curriculum without any distractions.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We also train dogs for a local charity organization, the DAWG Foundation, who provide service dogs for military veterans battling PTSD. This is an intensive, year-long training process, and we recently began training 2 twin sister black labs. One will be going to a local Navy Corpsman veteran who battles PTSD. The veteran comes in daily to work alongside the trainers, and the team is quickly growing into a family. It is an amazing thing to watch!
