Kearton Custom Builders was hired to replace the worn vinyl flooring in our son’s home as well as the wobbly stair rails. We contacted and interviewed several contractors for estimates. Each contractor was asked to suggest the best way to update the downstairs flooring and railings along the stairway from the first to second floor and upstairs hallway. All contractors, except Kearton Custom Builders were planning to refinish the existing newels and handrails and replace only the balusters. Given that the newels seemed poorly installed in the first place and the handrail’s color was a poor match for the rest of the home, we preferred the Kearton Builder’s advice to replace the newels and handrails. When the owner of Kearton Custom Builders (Jack Kearton) inspected the existing flooring and stair rails and suggested some cost-effective optional updates to enhance the job, we chose to replace the old 3-1/2” base molding with an attractive 4-1/4” base molding which Lowe’s had in stock. The Kearton Custom Builders estimate was reasonable (middle of the pack), and they supplied multiple references for similar jobs they had previously completed. Kearton Custom Builders clearly provides a high-quality work with great attention to detail. The timetable was a reasonable 2-weeks to replace 1100 ft2 of flooring and to replace the railing. The replacement of the railing went smoothly. The new newels were rock-solid after they were installed. Jack found attractive black metal balusters with an attractive alternating pattern which was a major improvement over the old plain white painted wooden balusters. The handrails were stained to match well with the new floor. Replacing the newels and handrails added less than $1000 to the whole project, but significantly improved the stair aesthetic. Kearton Custom Builders completed the project on budget once we included the few optional details (new base molding). We appreciated Kearton Custom Builder’s integrity and their pride in delivering top quality work. We rehired Kearton Custom Builders to update flooring and our kitchen in our home 6 months after completion of this project at our son’s home.

Jack and his team did an excellent job in installing stairs balusters at my home, he is very responsive, accommodative of the costumers schedule.
