Juan came to my house to help reassemble a partially dissembled treadmill that had been moved from NC to TX months prior and was even missing a few certain screws/bolts. He came very prepared and was even able to find a few screws/bolts that would fit my machine to help fully reassemble the treadmill and to bring it successfully and carefully inside my home without scratching any door frames or the hardwood floors. Very impressed he was able to do it all within an hour and made things so easy for me. Would definitely recommend!!!!

I could not recommend Tex-A-Clean more highly. The service I received went beyond all expectations. I was desperate to find a water remediation company to help dry my home after the historic 2016 "tax day" rains flooded my home. I was having a very difficult time finding a company who would respond to my phone calls until Christian from Tex-A-Clean received my request. He called immediately and spent a long time on the phone with me brainstorming solutions to save my hardwood floors. He was there within a couple hours with the necessary equipment. In the days that followed, Christian called on a daily basis to check in and see how else he might be able to help. He regularly went above and beyond, referring me to other contractors I needed, offering advice and expertise on how best to get my home back to normal for the least amount of money, and even bringing extra equipment when it became available. He always made time to answer every question I had. I couldn't be more pleased with the personalized and friendly service I received. I was treated a like a person instead of just a dollar sign -- something you don't see very often any more.

Blast & his team were awesome! He performed numerous jobs for me (tile/floor laminate installation, wall repair, painting, etc...) He continuously provided feedback & offered his expert opinion on several projects....which turned out fantastic. He had no problem deviating from what was initially agreed upon just to please his customer. You definitely won't go wrong choosing his services.

It's my first time using SWS. I posted my project on Thumbtack for Move in/Move out one time whole house cleaning and I awarded the project to SWS among 4 bids I received based the good reviews and the competitive quote (not the lowest but better than I paid for the same kind of job before). The house is a recently vacated rental home and just had new laminate and tile floor installed so the house is dusty and soiled.Their team showed up on time and did a fair job. Like other review said, they are not using strong chemical so the tough water stain (soap gum) on the shower door could not be thoroughly removed. The new laminate floor was cleaned well, but the new tile floor had residual dust in the form of mop trails (I guess because of the heavy dust it would require a couple of more rinsing and changing dirty water). The manager Mark is a great communicator and customer service guy. He offered to come out the next day to redo the work to address our concern but because we wanted to put the house on the market the next day so my wife decide to finish it up so that we could take picture of the house. Overall I am happy with the service

I cannot say enough good things about Fred Carpet and Flooring: absolutely the most responsive and conscientious contractor I have had the pleasure of working with. We had a large job-replace carpet of entire second floor with laminate flooring, including stairs, as well as master bedroom and two closets. The workmanship is excellent. His bid was excellent and no surprise costs. I really feel like I got an excellent value for his work. Very punctual, organized, respectful of household and very careful with moving pieces of furniture. I am SO happy I found Fred. He is very skilled and it shows. Look NO FURTHER for a flooring contractor!!

After receiving several bids, we hired Isaac to paint much of our house, replace our old baseboards, and install hardwood floors. We could not have picked a better man for the job. Isaac and his crew did an OUTSTANDING job! Originally we were dreading having the work done and dealing with a contractor. However, Isaac made the whole process a good experience. He communicated throughout the job and his crew did top notch work, all while treating our home with respect. We could not have asked for a better result or experience and are already planning what we want to have Isaac do next. Thank you Isaac!!!

I had Tell-projects come out and give me a bid for new tile floor in my kitchen after the hard wood floor buckled and broke. The inlay was done prefectly and quickly. These guys know what they are doing. They gave professional advice and showed me how and where I could save money with our project. My new kitchen looks so much larger, lighter and I am so happy! Later around a week later, there was a pipe leaking from my kitchen ceiling and it left a very impressionable open hole in my ceiling. I quickly called Tell-Projects and they came out right away. They fixed up the ceiling just in time for thanksgiving dinner with all my family. I cant even tell you how many compliment I got on my new kitchen. Thanks Tell-Projects! Lori Lennon

I hired Ground Art Installers for 2 different projects (Master Bath Remodel and a Outdoor Patio floor) and I am glad I did. Ivan and his team are always on time, great communication, flexible, fair prices and good with my kids on top of all that! Master Bath Remodel - Ground Art installers holds true to their name. They took the extra time to go through my marble and pick out pieces that would flow well together. They didnt just randomly places tiles as they were coming out of the crate. Ivan knew that I was paranoid about my shower leaking (there are many ways you can really mess up a shower install) and he took the time to walk me through his process. He goes above and beyond and takes necessary measures to ensure the showers WILL NOT leak. The tile was laid professionally with a 1/16" seam. He also has a network of people who have similar high standards in the craft they do (he referred me to a glass guy for my mirror and frameless glass shower) who was equally nice, great communication, top quality work and fair price. Patio - Ivan and his team took the extra time to ensure each tile was placed perfectly and even. At first, he initially laid down a pattern and showed me, I said "looks good". He continued on for about 15 minutes then decided it was a perfect pattern so he ripped it all up and re-did the pattern. This is the kind of perfectionist he is. To top all this off, the concrete team that poured the slab underneath failed to slope the slab 100% correctly. I had standing water in the middle of my patio. Ivan found the perfect solution, we rented a tool and he carefully drilled into the patio and slab and tied into a drain that was underneath all of that. It was a very clean solution to a major problem. He thinks outside of the box and really cares for his customer. I cant say enough good things about him and his team. Will hire again for my upcoming projects.

It was a simple floor cleaning. It was a new construction vinyl tile floor. The contractor warned about using high water or cleaning products. Jose was very knowledgable and personable. Also his pricing was more than competitive. I will reuse and recommended his services.

So glad we found Bryan & Eric to paint our house! We needed our living room, guest room and guest bath to be painted and they came through in every respect. They are great with their communication whether it's phone, text or email. Always responsive and quick to get back to you. Their quote was extremely competitive. And most importantly, their quality of work speaks for itself. They did a phenomenal job with edges and protecting our flooring. Don't hesitate to give Immediate Painters a call if you're looking for a personable, affordable and high quality painters. You won't be disappointed!

Good at communicating as the project went along. Workers put in some serious hours to demo tile, hardwood and laminate flooring then leveled it so I could install flooring. They also prepped and painted our entire first floor. I would say they did quality work on a pretty big project and my only negative feedback would be that two or more workers on some days could have helped the project finish up sooner. All employees were courteous and wanted to make sure things were done well.

Did great work and price was honest and reasonable. They did the tile work for the dinning room floor, bathroom floor, and bathtub surround. In addition, they replaced the bathroom vanity, painted the kitchen cabinets, and applied epoxy to the kitchen's laminate counter. Levi was responsive to my texts and phone calls, and didn't have any problem with the additional requests made once construction started.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
