I contacted multiple contractors for major home renovation in Pearland. Out of all those Juan Perez JLD services stands out. He took his time to explain everything, provided me with places to buy material at wholesale prices and did a great job. He did my wood flooring, tile, carpet, kitchen/bathroom quartz, vanities, garage export, patio tile etc. His whole team is amazing. I am very happy with his services and glad that I found Juan Perez and will definitely used his services in the future. Don’t hesitate to hire him for all your home renovation needs.

I hired this company to clean my parents' house based on the positive reviews and was not disappointed. I don't recall the manager's name (Mark?) but he was very polite, professional, and helpful. 3 ladies came to the house and were there for about 3 & 1/2 hours. They dusted everywhere, cleaned the bathrooms, kitchen, windows, swept the floor and vacuumed. They did a good job overall but missed the area between the shutters and windows. Mark had them come back to clean that area the next day. I am happy with the work and the experience was pleasant. Will definitely hire them again for another cleaning job!

I am very happy with the work Delcid's Painting & More did for me on my home remodel. The scope was to hang drywall and texture 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 living room and 1 dining room. The work they did looks great and even better was their care for my kitchen and hardwood floors. The kitchen was retextured but the floors, cabinets, appliances and counter tops remained and were well protected during the rest of the job.

These ladies did an exceptional job at my home. I only requested services for my kitchen and it was WELL worth it. When I purchased my home, there was this disgusting stain on my stove that I thought was permanent. when I came downstairs and saw my stove, I was SHOCKED! the stain was gone. I will definitely use them again. I would have rated them 5 stars but there were 2 things that I would have liked done better. they missed my microwave oven and I SHOULD have requested that my floors be finished with a Shine. If I would have done a walkaround in my kitchen I would have caught that they accidentally forgot my microwave oven, Other than that, they were WONDERFUL! Very sweet, kind and Professional women. I would definitely recommend.

Originally Tell-projects came into re-do my kitchen backsplash. They saw that my kitchen was falling apart being it is a kitchen from 1988. I saw pictures of past projects they have done and Zack couldn't be nicer! He told me "Rebecca, I have over 15 years of experience, our pictures speak for themselves, you can trust me." And although I was hesitant, I did. Tell projects refaced all of my kitchen cabinet and rebuilt my entire pantry with new shelving they cut and made on site. They made the pantry door made look brand new. They sanded and painted and stained and installed and repaired and tried to save me as much money as they could along the way. I have to stay that I was very skeptical but they did an excellent job! The workers treated my house like it was there own home and were so respectful of me and my kids. They always made sure to come after my kids left for school as to not bother breakfast time. They got me an incredible price for gorgeous white granite and installed all new door handles The backsplash is gorgeous white subway tile with a mosaic above my stove top. My kitchen looks brand new and it was just a simple update that took 4 days. Best part was the price, it was excellent for the amount of work that they did!!! My friends wont stop talking about my kitchen and I am a very happy customer, so is my husband ;) Thanks Zach and the crew!!! I cant wait until my next project with you guys, get ready, I know I am!!! I will definitely recommenced them!

It was a pleasure doing business with Will. After contacting Will, he worked around my busy schedule to come by and take a look at what I needed done. He had samples in his car which helped us get an idea of the colors that looked good. He advised us to go take a look all the options at his vendors location, which we did and found another color which we liked more than the samples Will had with him. After picking a color, Will gave us a turnkey price with materials+labor which was the BEST price we found for pre-fab granite. After putting down a deposit, we picked a date and Will sent his installers to come do the installation. We wanted to pick our own slab, knowing the variations in color, but unfortunately the installers got their before we did and picked up the slab. Fortunately they picked a beautiful piece, so stuck with it. We needed to get our vanity installed for our bathroom, so Will worked with our schedule so we can have both the carpenter and Wills installers on there the same day. It took them the whole day to do the install and they took their time doing it. We LOVE the finished product, our kitchen and bathrooms look AMAZING! We definitely recommend Will and will definitely use him again. My only recommendation to Will is to accept PayPal, come on dude its 2015 ;) !!!

Richard exceeded our expectations. He truly went above and beyond to ensure excellent quality services. We are first time home buyers and purchased a fixer upper. Richard painted, completely reconstructed one of our cabinets in the kitchen, and did some plumbing work for us. He was very pleasant to speak with and patient when answering questions. His price is unreal for what you actually get!

I am glad I hired W&W Painters for my kitchen cabinets, front door and some outside work. William was organized and professional. His main guy did most of the work and William filled in. He also has people for specific things such as spraying cabinets and changing ceiling look. All of the workers did a great job and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

I hired Les to install a dining chandelier and two kitchen pendant lamps (from 12 ft ceilings) and a dimmer switch. I was extremely pleased with Les. He showed up exactly at the agreed time and did a great job hanging the fixtures. And Les' price for his services was very reasonable.

I didn't have the budget to get new countertops cut and installed, so I decided to reuse the Quartz countertops that were in place before Harvey. I purchased cabinets for my kitchen and began mounting them in myself. The sink cutout was not centered on the drain line but instead several inches to the left of the drain, which I mistakenly forgot to account for when ordering my base cabinets. The time came to get the countertops installed and after measuring the sink cutout, I realized the only way it would fit would be to extend the countertop several inches to the right, so that the sink base cabinet and countertop cutout were centered with the sink. My solution was to use the thin 2 inch wide strip that was attached to the wall behind the oven. I got in touch with Victor at Brandstell and he sent someone over to assess the situation. The young man came and measured and remeasured and realized the same problem I did regarding the sink cutout not being centered on the drain line. I shared my solution with him and he retook the measurements and decided it would work! Several days later the same young man (Marco) and another coworker arrived and got to work cleaning the dried adhesive off the old counters. They proceeded to do an extraordinary job of cutting the extension piece to appropriate size, even including the complicated bullnose. They glued everything down to the base cabinets and the end result was beautiful! I had received several quotes from other installers and the prices were significantly higher, not including the cutting and attaching of the extension piece. The price given to me by Brandstell was hundreds of dollars lower and their quality of work was excellent!

Amazing work. Not only did I receive the best quote, he did an amazing job. He was detailed in what I needed for the job, picked up my materials, and what he was going to do. He gave me visuals of my options for the tile pattern (direction). He removed my vinyl flooring from the kitchen, moved appliances around as needed, He was clean, his work was clean, did not leave a mess. Very pleased. Saul is courteous and a very good person. Have already referred him, and would hire him again Had a backsplash installed and tile work in the kitchen .

Did great work and price was honest and reasonable. They did the tile work for the dinning room floor, bathroom floor, and bathtub surround. In addition, they replaced the bathroom vanity, painted the kitchen cabinets, and applied epoxy to the kitchen's laminate counter. Levi was responsive to my texts and phone calls, and didn't have any problem with the additional requests made once construction started.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

  • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
  • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
  • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
  • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.
