Introduction: Let me introduce myself. A voice teacher for over thirty-five years, I concentrate on healthy vocal production, breath support, and tension issues. My students, from beginners to Metropolitan Opera professionals, have studied opera, musical theater, gospel, country, and pop. For 26 years, I directed the Musical Theater and Opera programs at HCC-Northwest College. A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, my Master of Music degree is in Vocal Performance and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. I have worked as musical director/conductor or collaborative pianist with Houston Grand Opera, Opera in the Heights, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, American Institute of Musical Studies, Graz , Austria, Harrower Opera Festival, and EaDo Opera. Lucy is a friendly and patient teacher! I had absolutely no music experience prior to our lessons but that didn't bother her one bit! She is always so encouraging. I look forward to my piano lessons every week!

Lucy is wonderful! She is very kind and patient and fun to get to know. She listens to find out what your experience level is and what type of music/singing you would like to become more proficient in, and then she shapes the lessons based on that. I think she's very reasonably priced for the quality of the lessons. You get all of her considerable experience and expertise and she helps you learn and progress at your own pace. I started taking voice lessons with her in late February and in August I am already noticing how much my vocal range has expanded and the quality of my voice has improved, and she gives me great advice for auditions and general knowledge for singing. She is a great teacher and a blessing!

My daughter is taking voice lessons from Lucy Hargis. Lucy is knowledgeable, supportive and an experienced teacher. She seems to get genuine joy from teaching and seeing a student succeed. After only a few lessons, my daughter is already singing better and is more confident in her abilities. I would highly recommend Lucy Hargis.

Lucy is experienced and caring. Within the first two lessons she has given me techniques that have already improved my singing. I came to learn to sing opera, which is her specialty, and I am very satisfied so far. Since I already have some musical knowledge, Lucy is just the right instructor to take me to the next level. During my very first lesson, she was able to accurately asses my level and ability, and to give me just the right exercises and "homework" to improve my skills. I highly recommend Lucy to anyone who wants to train in opera or simply get better at singing!

Ms. Hargis thus far, has been incredible! The lessons are for my 17 year old daughter who needs help with a few things; namely pitch, breathing and control and after the first lesson, we already see a difference...improvement! Ms. Hargis is very thorough, patient and knowledgeable. You won't be disappointed in her teaching...and to top it off, she's got a lovely spirit too!

I charge $60 an hour, $50 for 45 minutes, and $35 for half hour lessons.

I assess the level of the student, and together we work out a plan to achieve their goals.

I continue to work professionally as a collaborative pianist and church musician. I'm active in various LinkedIn groups to keep abreast of new ideas. I'm also active in the NATS organization as both a voice teacher and collaborative pianist. I enjoy keeping up with several blogs of internationally renowned voice teacher colleagues for any new concepts or teaching theories.
