- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My preferred method is to schedule a consultation by phone or in person to introduce myself and to listen to the vision the client has for the shoot. This could be a quick 10 minute discussion for simple shoots or multiple discussions for more elaborate ideas.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
There are 2 primary areas the photographer and client should discuss in order to achieve the look you want for your photography session 1. Location(s) Location decisions can be daunting at times but with the right planning, we can achieve spectacular results! Consider the environment you envision, whether it be an outdoor environmental shoot or and indoor studio session. *Outdoor sessions are generally free for public use unless it is private or business property where additional costs for permits may be required. Weather is a serious factor when an outdoor shoot is planned so it will be imperative when booking an outdoor shoot to keep an eye on the forecast. Finally, in regards to outdoor shoots, The sun can be harsh during the mid-day and can cast some pretty harsh shadows. Moving to a shaded area can help overcome that. Generally, the most favorable light is right after sunrise and right before sunset. *Indoor shoots at a studio will add hourly rental costs (studio space/lighting) to your shoot. On the other hand, shooting at your house or property or a family/friend's home or property you can generally get access for no additional cost. 2. Wardrobe It is good practice to discuss with your photographer your wardrobe decisions as it pertains to the location(s) agreed upon. Here's why. Your wardrobe choices have a significant impact on the overall story of the photo. The colors and type of your wardrobe you choose could complement or clash with the location environment. There are also times when creative visions throw all of the rules out of the door and anything goes. With simple planning during the initial and follow up consultations, the photographer and client will be able to execute any vision imagined.
