For children newborn to 1 year old, I use my studio. All others, I love the outdoors. It's just more fun than stuck in a studio.

Make sure the style you want in your session matches the photographer's style and that the images shown on their website is consistent. You'll also want to feel comfortable with your photographer, so make sure you are in contact in person or on phone. And it won't hurt to ask for references. Working with your photographer and exchanging ideas will result in awesome images.
