Guillaume was a pleasure to work with! We needed a few wooden porch steps replaced on our historic home in the Heights and I’m glad we selected him. He brought all tools and cut the wood onsite, and even hauled away the old steps. He was on time, responsive, precise, and was able to complete our project quickly. Would use him again. He doesn’t paint so the pictures below are a before and after without paint.

Mr Sheppard did an excellent job of painting my four rooms, I could not be happpier with the expirence. He was professional, gave me a time line of when the rooms would be complete and actually finished early as he estimated three days and finished in two. Me Sheppard was on the job early the two days he painted my rooms. I am very pleased that the job was complete and Mr Sheppard left the work are clean, he did a finally walk through with me to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. I will definitely be working with Sheppard Sheetrock tile and remodeling again!!

My water heaters in upstairs attic had faulty sensors that overflowed from upstairs through to downstairs master closet and bathroom. The claim was settled through the water heater sensory company. PGS was prompt to reply to my thumbtack request, came to my house to give me a quote, followed up with written quote emailed. From start to finish, their communication was 5 Star. They are honest, have a tremendous amount of experience with all levels of construction and the end result was perfect. You cannot even tell that the ceilings were damaged. They ripped out drywall, replaced insulation and drywall, matched ceiling texture and paint color perfectly. They also replaced light fixtures. I would highly recommend using PGS as this project could not have gone any better. I called their references who also raved about their great jobs completed. I also really liked the online invoice portal sent to me via email so that I could pay using my credit card. Very professional from start to finish and I will be using them again for several projects in the future.

We had our home exterior painted and were very pleased with the job Kenny and his crew did. They quoted us a fair price and they really care about pleasing their customers. They spent a lot of time and effort prepping the home before painting and the paint job looks great! We would highly recommend Vivid Designs, Painting and Drywall for all of your interior or exterior painting needs!

We initially hired David to do some remodeling work on our kitchen cabinets when were having some work done on our new house. We actually had several different contractors in doing different jobs. I ended up being disappointed with every one of them except for MD. I now wish that I had hired them for all of the work I had done on the place. In addition to the excellent cabinetry in our kitchen, they ended up flooring two rooms for me, painting two rooms and redoing my entryway. No matter how much more I asked them to fit into their schedules for us or how many times I had to ask them to change their schedules for us due to another contractor failing to either finish on time(sometimes weeks late!) or failing to start on time, I was met with assurances that they would get it done. Of the four separate contractors we hired, MD was the only one who started on time, finished and time, and didn't leave me feeling like I had made a giant mistake in placing my trust, money and house in their hands. There is no better value per dollar investment in my house than the work they performed. All of the future work that will be going into our new home will be done by MD.

I was referred J&M by a coworker after purchasing my new home and needing a whole house interior painted. I contacted J&M and immediately was offered availability for an initial walk through to ensure all my needs and wants were met. I was given a time frame for work completion as well as the monetary amount it would cost. The crew worked fast and well, ensured prior to completion that any and all "issues" were pointed out to be corrected up to my standard prior to the end of the job. Was even told if paint needed touch up down the line they would come out and touch up paint as needed with no questions or issues asked. Would definitely refer them to friends and family and WILL be using them again for upgrades around my new home!

I had a new addition added, a roof/ceiling over my 20'x30' deck with 10' walls. I have hired 1 painter in my life, that was after Hurricane Andrew and the insurance paid for it. I always thought why hire out what I can do, however, I'm getting older and it's time. Wow, I'm glad I called Precision Paint! Greremy showed up, gave me a very very fair estimate. He was extremely polite, professional and knowledgeable . Precision Paint is the perfect name for the company, very precise and complete. Sanding, caulking, primer and finish coat were flawless. I was asked to inspect the work before final clean up; excellent and very timely job, zero defects! I will not hesitate to call them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
