Our Son was going to go to the justice of the peace to get married before his destination wedding next year. It turned into a family event and we asked Tom to officiant the wedding at the Embassey Suites hotel Sundance Square to include all the family. It was just perfect!! Tom was in contact with all our changes and the wedding ceremony was so much more than justice of the peace. It was personalized and he really spent time to make this our own special day for our son and new daughter-in-law!! Thank you-Tom!!

Amir did our engagement photos at the Dallas Arboretum, the only time we could arrange all of our schedules was at 3:00 PM in one of the hottest days of the year, 107F and he still managed to get amazing photos, great value for the price, we will use him again for our wedding photos! Highly recommended

Tommy did a great job at my 25th wedding anniversary party! We had a diverse group of people there, and he tried his best to get everyone dancing. He even TRIED to show this 46-year-old lack-of-anything-remotely-looking-like-dancing white woman how to do some of these line dances, lol! Everyone said they had a blast, as did I!! Thank you,mTommy

It was truly a pleasure to work with DJ French. As a wedding coordinator it's very rewarding to be able to connect with the vendors and know that you can count on them to do their contracted job, and DJ French went above and beyond the call of duty. He made himself available at any time to call on him and discuss whatever wedding business was necessary to review, and he did due diligence to make sure his clients were beyond happy with his services by catering to their every need. There wasn't a time at the wedding where he was unavailable. He made announcements when necessary, made quick to the minute decisions about song transitions and even adhered to last minute song requests from guests. He was very quick to handle an incident with wall outlets, making sure there was no break in music ... I don't think one guest was even aware of an issue. He came prepared to give not only his contracted services but to give an experience. He's definitely the go-to for your upcoming events. I look forward to working with him again. -Ebony Carrington, Custom Crowns & Events

Rudy was great to work with when I was trying to pick a company for the photo booth at my daughter's wedding. He was quick to reply to my questions. I was glad I paid the extra money for the photo guest book. Our guests were taking lots of fun pictures! Rudy and his wife were friendly to our guests -- great job!

Bryan Martin provided equipment for the karaoke at our son's wedding rehearsal dinner. I asked Bryan for additional songs and he provided everything that I asked for. He was very nice to work with. We actually chose to use him because he brought the equipment to the dinner location and picked it up the next day. Thanks, Bryan, for your outstanding service. The guests had a great time!

Rob is a MUST HIRE!!! This is who you want to preform your ceremony. O my goodness we had no idea when we hired him on Thumbtack what we were getting. But his reviews were great. Rob or "Pastor Rob" as we called him at the ceremony was Awesome. Upon hire he immediately sent an email and congratulated us and let us know he was here for us, the couple. Later he sent emails wanting details on what we wanted and what he could do to help us in anyway. As the ceremony got closer he reviewd our vows so he could have words for us at the ceremony. The big story here is when he got there. My neice was late bringing the flower girls so there was almost an hour wait and I could do nothing but wait. Rob waited with us, my husband said he gave him words of comfort as they waited. When the wedding finally started, Pastor Rob was so professional and spoke the most spiritual words for our soul as well as leading us in prayer and when it was over he handled the legal part of the wedding with the licence and hugged us and departed. You can hire anyone here BUT IF YOU WANT THE BEST AT A REASONABLE PRICE...ROB IS THE BEST. My sister has added him as a officiant for her wedding planner business. Hire him you will NOT be disappointed. I promise.

Ross photographed both the wedding and reception for our daughter. He was such a pleasure to work with that even guests mentioned how great he was. His action and still photography are wonderful. However he definitely needs improvement when it comes to groups of people as those on the edges of the group often weren’t well focused and he needed to take more time to ensure each person looked good in the picture by adjusting their stance, etc. and ensuring the picture didn’t add dark shadows or had squinty eyes.

Eileen and How are great. We worked on three separate projects for my wedding. I went to How and Eileen with a lot of old and new photos and a bunch of ideas in my head for three videos. This was a surprise project for my husband for our destination wedding. It could not have been more perfect. They turned all of my ideas and pictures into three beautiful videos. They were very easy to work with and they really tried to get to know me and what I was trying to convey to our guest. It really was a collaboration both Eileen and How are very creative and they have a great eye for detail. Out of everything I did for my wedding, this is one of my favorites. This is something I will have for the rest of my life and that is priceless.

We knew before hand that we would want something unique about our wedding. Minh took his time meeting us in person to discuss details and make sure we would get the shots we wanted as well as showing us what creative ideas he had for our wedding. If you want something more modern and unique, go with The Les Photography.

Kristen is in the late planning stages of my wedding with me and I could not have picked someone who fit me better. As soon as I met her, I knew I had hired someone who would work her hardest to get all the details right, calm my nerves and allow me to be a bride on my wedding day while she handled everything behind the scenes. She's reasonably priced, has lots of industry experience and I would recommend her to the moon and back.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

How much do day-of wedding coordinators cost?

A day-of wedding coordinator makes sure that every detail of your wedding day goes off without a hitch, and deals quickly and quietly with any last-minute emergencies. For many brides, the day-of wedding coordinator is their best investment! The average national cost for a wedding coordinator is $800 to $1,000. Although full-service wedding coordinators often charge a percentage of the total wedding budget, most day-of coordinators charge a flat fee plus an additional hourly fee if the day runs long. For example, a 15-hour day-of coordination costs an average of $600, plus an additional $45 per hour if the coordinator works more than the planned 15 hours. Another option is to hire a coordinator to manage the last-minute details leading up to the event; for example, 25 hours of month-of coordination costs an average of $1,200. Several factors affect the cost of day-of coordination, including the region, the planner’s experience, and the specifics of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in two different locations, expect to pay more than if they’re in the same place. Also, extra details, such as managing food trucks or setting up snacks in addition to the meal, will increase the cost.

What should you ask a wedding coordinator?

When you hire a wedding coordinator, you want to make sure he or she gets you and can execute perfectly your vision of your dream wedding. To find the very best fit, it’s important to ask these five questions:

  • Are you available on my wedding date? If the coordinator isn’t available on your big day, there’s no reason to continue the interview — unless you’re willing to shift your date to accommodate their schedule.
  • What’s average cost of most of your weddings? If the coordinator’s usual wedding is outside your range, they might not be the right coordinator for you. Ask whether the coordinator requires a minimum wedding budget. In general, the wedding coordinator’s fee should be about 15 percent of your budget.
  • What is your speciality? Some coordinators specialize in day-of coordination, some create the overall vision, and others act as a producer. Make sure your wedding coordinator provides the type of services that will most help you create the event you have in mind, such as selecting vendors and handling their contracts, or managing the guest list and invitations.
  • What are your ideas for fulfilling our wedding vision? After you describe your dream wedding — rustic or sophisticated, traditional or funky — the wedding coordinator should be able to suggest appropriate venues, menus, decorations, etc..

Do you have a portfolio? Ask to see photos of their favorite weddings, especially if they’ve managed any that are similar to what you have in mind. This will help you see if you like their style and if their ideas seem fresh and creative.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
