I had Tarrant roofing come out to look at my roof and they gave me pictures of hail damage. I initially called because we lost shingles in a hail storm. They didn't show any pictures of the lost shingles. I kept asking for quotes for repair on just the lose shingles and they were only interested in what my insurance company would say about replacing the whole roof. My insurance was $6,000 deductible. I didn't want to replace a roof at beginning of spring and worried about loose shingles. They refused to give quote without my insurance. Then last week we had heavy rains and it started coming inside. Tarrant roofing jacked us again promising to come tarp our roof and then at 5:00pm they called and said oh wait never mind it's only if we have a contract, no contract without a quote. Medina roofing came out, gave me pictures of my roof and told me exactly where the leak was coming from. It was from the vent. He gave me a quote right there of $450 to fix the WIND damage, and recaulk all vents on the roof. My adjustmenter for my insurance came out and looked at the roof. He agreed I did not have any hail damage, my roof is 8yrs old. He said the repairs should run $500-600. The water spot on the ceiling that is now inside the bathroom is a easy fix with some kilz primer and paint. Medina didn't think he could get out to me for a week or so as he was backed up. He came 2 days later, it took 2 hours. The came did there work and left without disturbing anyone. My little dog are usually very territorial and his crew was quite we heard no one talking. We signed everything via online. He knew I had some health issues and slept during the day.

Mr. Eric Keto and his employees were responsive and professional addressing the issues with an improperly installed HVAC vent stack and flashing on our roof that led to a leak into our HVAC closet after heavy rains. Eric personally took the time to inspect the area and advise me of the issues and potential solutions. After immediately taking photos and speaking to one of his technicians, Eric then followed-up with me over the course of scheduling and completing the repair to include working with his team to ensure the correct materials were sought to get the job done right the first time. His price was fair and his candor and professionalism shone through. I would highly recommend Eric and his team at Keto Roofing.

We have an older house and our dryer was vented into our crawl space, just a few feet from the furnace. Not an ideal set up, so we asked for quotes to have the vent run outside. Joshua was very responsive and detailed during the quote process. He was also very specific re: what would be included in the job. We had a minor change in specs vs what we'd originally told him re: the length of the vent we needed and he was flexible and willing to work around that. We needed the work done quickly. He was able to schedule the job within 2 days of us requesting a quote. He showed up on time, completed the work in a timely manner, the vent looked professional and clean, and he did not leave a mess in our house. His price was higher than the other quote I got, but his reviews were much better. I'd say that the reviews are spot on and I would hire him again.

After finding a leak in our roof, within minutes of raising the project on Thumbtack I was put in touch with Eddie. He was quick to make contact, and despite the ongoing rain was able to make an appointment to fix an old roof vent. He was very responsive, and the repair took no time at all. Very reasonably priced and a pleasure to work with overall

They replaced a dryer vent line that was installed improperly. They used high quality materials and the technician was very experienced and completed the job in a couple hours. The cost was $686.00, which was a lot more than I was expecting, but it did involve installing a new roof vent.

I had leaks starting to appear in my bdrm ceiling I called Melvin General Contracting & they promptly came out. After inspecting the attic & roof water was found to be leaking down at that vent pipe area. Cause ; the nails around vent pipe flashing were popping up allowing nails to rust and water to leak through the roof. Repair was made. All the other flashing were inspected,1 other was starting down the path of the 1st it was repaired and all of the others done for good measure. Being a retired tradesmen I would give MGC roofing an A+. Try them, very professional and polite. K.Newton 12/22/16

I would recommend Rockimg J Construction for any service they provide. I used them to complete the work that my insurance company said needed to be done. Roof, gutters, windows and fence work. They were on time and did exactly what they said they would and did it for what the insurance company paid.

I had a full new roof installed on my house by Ready Roofing. They were professional and did a really good job. I spoke several times to the lead guy who was on site and he was good at explaining everything to me. Ready also handled my insurance claim. I never had to speak to the insurance company again after calling to file the claim, because RR also met the adjuster when I couldn't (at work). I am so happy with them!

I highly recommend Claro roofing. Extremely professional and customer focused. All I had to do was file my claim and he handled everything else including working with the insurance adjuster. Our roof was complete in a day there was no mess, besides the beautiful new roof you couldn't even tell they were there!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
