Antonio, friendly and professional, arrived on time to quote on the job to prune five crepe myrtles, one of which is a HUGE 25 year old tree. Later, when understandable weather delayed arrival for the job, I was kept informed via text message. The work was done properly, and the yard was cleaned up. I opted to have the massive clippings hauled away rather than just bundled...and it was a lot of clippings! I highly recommend Four Seasons, and they are my one call for future work.

I had a severely rotting tree in my backyard that was beyond saving and desperately needed to be removed. The tree had multiple large limbs (at least 12" in diameter) hanging over two fences and a large split section directly over my roof. Allen and his guys were able to completely remove the tree in a matter of hours without a single scratch on any of the surrounding structures. They also hauled everything to the curb for heavy trash pickup and left the area clean. I am already planning to have him come out again to prune my remaining trees.

Daniel and his crew has work for me for the past 10 years. I have a ranch out in Flynn, Tx and green industry comes and stays on the ranch for 3 days every 3-4 years to prune and diagnose all my trees. Daniel is a great arborist. He is not the cheapest, but very reasonable. He always answers all my questions or consults with his colleagues and has saved several of my trees over the years. I consider myself lucky to have found him and having him work for me. All my family uses him as well, and we all feel the same way.

I have to say Wendell went above and beyond to prune our 3 trees in our front yard. I've hired people in the past and barely did any work to the trees and overcharged. Wendell's quote was fair and his work was exceptional. The guy is like spiderman and a magician at the same time climbing IN the trees with a chainsaw and making ugly & nonfunctional branches disappear! I have two huge trees in the backyard which is a large job and based off his work today would highly consider him for the job. I have to also comment about hiring the right tree contractor that has a good eye for design. He and I were on the same page on how I wanted the trees and he was willing to make modifications as we went. I would say hiring a tree trimmer is like hiring a skilled barber and architect at the same time. They have to hear your expectations and what you want and desire and design how you want. But to add on that then he followed through with exactly what I was expecting so thanks Wendell. Your hardwork and professionalism is truly appreciated.

I had two large ash trees that were in need of pruning. Ken and his crew did an excellent job not only pruning the trees but also cleaning up my yard after completing the job. They were all personable and I felt they truly wanted to do the job to my satisfaction. If there could have been an area of improvement it would be in notifying me when they would arrive to do the job. But, I definitely recommend KT Earthcare and will utilize them again when I have the need. Thank you Ken and crew. ~ Arne Larsen

We recently hired Golden Rule Home and Garden to prune our very overgrown Live Oak trees and Crepe Myrtles. Ron did an excellent job and he really treated our property as though it was his own. I would call the work they did a very custom pruning job, as he would inquire with me about certain branches we wanted to keep or be cut and even showed me how they use 3-cut method to cut the limbs to eliminate the possibility of any tears. Overall our front yard looks fantastic now and my wife and I are very pleased with the work he performed. Would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for any type of landscaping project.

Mr. DeMare spent a lot of time discussing my tree pruning needs before starting on the work. I was away from the house during most of the trimming and when they finished. I came home to find a very nice pruning job and no mess left behind. I would heartily recommend A J's Greenscapes for tree pruning. Mr. DeMare is very knowledgeable about proper pruning and tree maintenance.

Up your tree service is a great company, not the cheapest but very good at what they do. I had 2 oak trees pruned and 3 oak trees removed. The pruning Jerry and Amber did was amazing, I have never seen anyone so talented, like a work of art. Jerry is very smart and knowlegable with trees and the health of trees. If you care about your trees or need someone you can trust I highly recommend Up your Tree service, don't pass them up, as I said I am amazed, my trees have never looked so good! About

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
