I contacted multiple contractors for major home renovation in Pearland. Out of all those Juan Perez JLD services stands out. He took his time to explain everything, provided me with places to buy material at wholesale prices and did a great job. He did my wood flooring, tile, carpet, kitchen/bathroom quartz, vanities, garage export, patio tile etc. His whole team is amazing. I am very happy with his services and glad that I found Juan Perez and will definitely used his services in the future. Don’t hesitate to hire him for all your home renovation needs.

Blast & his team were awesome! He performed numerous jobs for me (tile/floor laminate installation, wall repair, painting, etc...) He continuously provided feedback & offered his expert opinion on several projects....which turned out fantastic. He had no problem deviating from what was initially agreed upon just to please his customer. You definitely won't go wrong choosing his services.

It's my first time using SWS. I posted my project on Thumbtack for Move in/Move out one time whole house cleaning and I awarded the project to SWS among 4 bids I received based the good reviews and the competitive quote (not the lowest but better than I paid for the same kind of job before). The house is a recently vacated rental home and just had new laminate and tile floor installed so the house is dusty and soiled.Their team showed up on time and did a fair job. Like other review said, they are not using strong chemical so the tough water stain (soap gum) on the shower door could not be thoroughly removed. The new laminate floor was cleaned well, but the new tile floor had residual dust in the form of mop trails (I guess because of the heavy dust it would require a couple of more rinsing and changing dirty water). The manager Mark is a great communicator and customer service guy. He offered to come out the next day to redo the work to address our concern but because we wanted to put the house on the market the next day so my wife decide to finish it up so that we could take picture of the house. Overall I am happy with the service

I cannot say enough good things about Fred Carpet and Flooring: absolutely the most responsive and conscientious contractor I have had the pleasure of working with. We had a large job-replace carpet of entire second floor with laminate flooring, including stairs, as well as master bedroom and two closets. The workmanship is excellent. His bid was excellent and no surprise costs. I really feel like I got an excellent value for his work. Very punctual, organized, respectful of household and very careful with moving pieces of furniture. I am SO happy I found Fred. He is very skilled and it shows. Look NO FURTHER for a flooring contractor!!

Isaac came even before I arrived for the edtimate. He provided professional opinions and suggestions. The price for painting walls and replacing carpet floor with laminate is reasonable. Project was completed nicely as scheduled. He even helped with pick-up of materials. We definitely will use his service again.

Hands Down! best service in town for quality floor installation. I've dealt with several floor installers thru out the years. I've never had a crew to be as professional and good as Texas Wood Flooring Service LLC. I would recommend this installer over any or all that you may be considering to hire. Eduardo, Ever, & Chopa went over and beyond their contractual obligation to please me.

Robert was a professional and did an excellent job on the project. He worked on our curved stairs and upstairs playing area. Robert took the time to explain the different types of wood that works best for our house, he brought samples to show us the different colors and how it matches the floors we had downstairs. He proceeded to completing the project and finished as promised. Will recommend him to anyone looking to install wood floors.

Miguel did a great job taking care of my new sink. The work required cutting some of the existing granite tile countertop for the new sink to fit it, and he was able to do the job well and without complications. I would use Miguel again for future projects.

I absolutely had a great experience working with Robert and I didn't even get to meet him. I am extremely busy so Robert went out of his way to get the job done around my busy schedule. He is a life saver! Very reasonable pricing, great quality work and he doesn't leave until the job is done. I will definitely go to Robert for any futures house repair. My laminate floors looked horrible before he saved it!

We found out the fence was included in our pool build, but I had to leave a review. Why? Because the professionalism and the over all experience we had getting a quote from Atlas was just amazing. In fact we already talked with them about doing our floors, adding attic stairs, and finishing out a storage room. If your looking for someone you can trust call these guys, you won't be disappointed. Thanks John, we look forward to working with you on our future projects.

I am very impressed with David at AAA Tile Masters, he did an incredible job on my tile floors and travertine. I thought both were beyond repair. What is most impressive, is that he worked with me to get the exact color of the grout that I wanted, until I was satisfied. The cleaning and polishing of the travertine is outstanding. It looks like I have new floors - with none of the cost and hassle of an install. I cannot thank David enough, for his professionalism and the fantastic job he did. He is fabulous, professional, very customer-oriented, does everything he says he will do.

Omar is great reliable flooring professional I had other people who did a disaster when they installed my wood floor, immediately Omar noticed what was wrong it was a nightmare, he took the wood planks off replaced the old underlay finished the work and cleaned after. Saved me a lot of money the other guy made me pay so much for everything as he didn’t do the right measurements. His price was very reasonable to the work quality I received. I can’t thank him enough for his work He is also very honest when I asked him to do some outdoor rock work he said he doesn’t do that. The other guy said he can do everything! I highly recommend him In feature if I need any other floor job I’ll definitely hire him. Thank you Omar

I hired Tom to demo my kitchen floor tile, install new floor tile and a backsplash, and also install the granite countertops in the kitchen. He was respectful, communicative, and competitively priced. He had 1 helper with him for the job, and he himself was on the site with his worker most of the time. The one thing I must rave about the most is the fact that even after receiving final payment, I had to ask him to come back and clean up some of the remaining grout work, and he did! I was worried with receiving payment that he wouldn't respond, but he did and was kind about it. So he made sure he did the job, and he finished it out correctly. I really appreciated that. I'd definitely consider him for future jobs. In addition, he had to work through my coordination with my cabinet installer, and he was a great team player. I truly was grateful for that as well.

Marin Tile installed 18" x 18" floor tile and 4" x 4" wall tile in my kitchen and laundry room. Javier, his father and brother did a great job to install the tile flat despite the floors and wall being uneven (old home). Javier gave me some suggestions on what grout would look best and some design suggestions as well. It was much appreciated and the outcome was great! I would definitely recommend Marin Tile!

Showed up as expected for the quote and the install. These guys worked really hard and Know what they are doing. The owner Ismael along with his family showed up and worked each day and got the job done within the agreed upon timeframe. I even had my base boards upgraded by this company. I was nervous because I am very particular but I am beyond pleased with the quality and service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
