Tiffany did an amazing job!! She helped set up a schedule for my bridal party and executed beautiful makeup! I asked for a neutral palette with a glam edge and red lip and it was absolutely perfect! We asked for a hair stylist as well and she totally delivered! 100% recommend!!

Kodi was the best! She did my makeup for my senior prom and it was amazing! i got compliments all night about it! she was super nice and made sure that I liked what she was doing as she went along. She also let me figure out what i wanted to do on my own but gave her opinion when i asked what she thought. Overall, i highly recommend her!!

Felice is so easy to communicate with! She makes sure she'll be prepared to come in for a trial run. She's asked me what kind of look I'm going for and she seemed very confident she'll be able to deliver. I'm not a makeup person so I feel scared of the cakey look or having-too-much-makeup-look. She rests assured that whatever it is that I want will be delivered in a tasteful way. Also, since she lives in the same town as I am (Rowlett), she didn't charge me travel fee! How awesome is that! Her pricing is VERY reasonable and VERY affordable. I've looked online using wedding planner websites and I have friends who are makeup artists and charge twice as much, even their trial runs, in my opinion, are very pricey (around $80). Felice, however, doesn't charge trial run if you're the bride. $10 trial run if you're a bridesmaid or guest. She's able to keep her trial run affordable if she can have multiple trials in one appointment at the same location. I have a bridal makeup trial run coming up this weekend. I've only communicated with her through phone and I can already tell that making sure I am very well taken care of is a priority. I can't wait to meet her and feel confidently beautiful on my wedding day!

I really enjoyed having Maghan do my makeup for my wedding. I was so glad I did a trial. I showed her a picture of what I thought I wanted. After she finished my trial based on the picture, we made some pretty drastic changes. My makeup was PERFECT on my wedding day. She was nice and quick as well finishing airbrush makeup and lashes for four people in about 2 hours. I recommend Maghan!

Shelby did an amazing job for my wedding day makeup! She did all 6 bridesmaids and myself the morning of the wedding. We started very early(7am for a 2pm wedding) and she was there exactly at the time we agreed upon. The makeup was stunning on each of the bridesmaids. Most of us don't wear more than some foundation and mascara normally, but Shelby Is a natural and could read what would look best for each bridesmaid and still look natural for them. I had a trial which I did before my engagement photos. Shelby met me early in the morning again for those. She was always flexible with the schedule and I knew I could trust her to do what would look best!!

SuzAnne was the makeup artist for my wedding. She did a stunning job on my makeup, my mother's, bridesmaid, & a family member that was attending the wedding. She's my preferred makeup artist because she listens to what you want, is prepared, & extremely professional while still being warm & friendly. MOST importantly, she uses the most sanitized practices from set up, application with fresh tools with each person, & not cross contaminating her products.

Mayra was wonderful. I had originally booked another makeup artist who cancelled on me at the last minute. Mayra came to the rescue and did a phenomenal job. She was on time and professional personal and she made me feel and look beautiful on one of the most important days of my life.

Where do i start?! Jasmine was beyond my expectations, i asked for soft and romantic and she made me feel so beautiful! She prepped my skin so well before the glam and my skin was loving all the products she was putting on my skin! It’s like you are getting a skin therapist and a makeup artist all in one! She definitely knows what she is doing and i would recommend her for soft look and bold looks as well she can do it all! Not only that she has a great personality that makes you feel very confident in her work ethic and her overall performance as a makeup artist!

I have never had the best experiences getting makeup done by other artists, so for prom I really wanted it to be done well. Misha's responsiveness to every detail of my face, her patience in understanding what I wanted, and her execution of it was beyond amazing! The best part about having your makeup done by Misha is that rather than transforming your face into someone else by bombarding your skin with 100 different products, she flawlessly accentuates your natural features with products she knows would best suit your skin. Overall, very pleased with my experience with Misha. Her work is absolutely stunning!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.
