Aaron Melven was superb! Excellent communications, highly skilled/experienced with roofing & roofing repairs. Aaron showed up on time, did my roof assessment, and charged a fair price which we agreed upon. Very professional. I'll use Aaron (Melven General Contracting) again when it's time to repair or replace my roof.

We are thrilled with the results of our cedar, board on board, with corrugated metal combo privacy fence. I told Cameron my ideas and left it in his hands to get creative and was sure glad I did. Never having used the metal panels before, Cameron proved his expertise and experience. I won’t use anyone else for my fence needs after this.

I wanted a specific size and style gutter and downspout for a mid-century modern house. Oleg and his crew came up with exactly what was originally designed for the house, with a color that matched the new metal roof exactly. I could not be more pleased.

Tornado Alley put a metal roof on my home in the summer of 2015. We are very happy with the way the roof turned out and the fact that Mr. Dunphy didn't walk away from the completed job until he knew we were completely satisfied, which we were. Since then he has done repair on my parent's roof and has put a new roof on my aunt's house after they requested Tornado Alley specifically because they liked his work, honesty and integrity. Mr. Dunphy is very easy to work with and is an honorable man.

Excellent turnkey service from meeting with insurance adjuster to cleaning up afterwards. I was impressed with their seasoned and well trained crew and the owner's personal oversight. My roof looks better than any new roof on my street because they painted the vent pipes that were once dirty white or rusted metal. It was an easy and pleasant experience. - Diana Ball Cooksey

We had an unusual roofing problem: combined metal & flat roof, complicated by 6 sky-lights. We'd been disappointed by several roofers over an 8-year period & spent a considerable amount of money following their recommendations. The flat roof/sky-lights still leaked. The Ducker reps spent an incredible amount of time studying the problem & met with our insurance adjuster to discuss resolution & liability. We felt that their representations were honest & hired them for the job. It has been more than a year & we gratefully have no leaks!

My roofing experience couldn't have been better. We had hail storm. I called several companies but among all of them Accountable Roofing responses were professional. Devin showed up on time and took me over the roof and explained me the hail damages. After I signed the contract, the insurance company came to inspect and they did not pass the roof for replacement. I called Devin and said the insurance company did not approve the replacement so just let it go. But Devin insisted me to escalate it and protest with the insurance company for a second third party inspection. I reluctantly called the insurance and to my surprise they agreed for the second inspection. Devin came out for both the inspections and the second time over the insurance company agreed to replace the roof. Also Devin found some damages inside the attic and the ceilings and pointed them to the insurance person. Eventually the insurance paid for the roof, and also some interior sheet rock and paint. After the roof was replaced. I can see why most of our neighbors went with Accountable roofing and has to be a reason. I found couple of our neighbors went with other roofing companies and did not had good experience and wish they had called Accountable Roofing. I will not hesitate to recommend Accountable Roofing to anyone who is looking for a roof replacement. We have already recommended him to at least 5 people. Thank you Devin!!!

My wife and I hired Alpha construction to replace our roof after a hail storm. Seth, the General Contractor we worked with, was excellent. He was very easy to talk to and kept us very up-to-date with all the steps in the process. He worked very hard with us and our HOA on getting the right materials approved for a special metal section when the HOA denied my wife and I's first choice. All of the sub-contractors he sent out, the roofers, electricians, and AC/Heating did quality work, and Seth made sure during the work and after if we were happy with them. It was a large job dealing with all the different repair people, the insurance co, and the HOA, and Seth handled it very professionally and we really felt that he took very good care of us, and made our satisfaction his top priority. My wife and I HIGHLY recommend him.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

        • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

        • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
          • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
        • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
        • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
        • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
        • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
        • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
