Dan installed cabinets for me and did an amazing job. The cabinets were 2nd hand so I didn't know the layout but he was patient and came up with a great design.

I am probably one of the most "picky, detailed oriented and incriminating" of all clients, or that anyone can ever experience in their life! In fact, I am so "Picky" about repairs; drywall, textures and paint, probably most everything about a job, I do not trust most people to even do my jobs, and end up doing most everything myself. I am explaining and saying this because, I give credit where it is due, and can not say enough to praise Mr. Rosalio Gamez and his incredible team (Gamez Drywall & Repair) for their EXCELLENT work! I can not say enough about Rosalio and his team; They arrived promptly, and did everything, and more, than expected. They were quite, courteous, polite, very detailed oriented, worked in sequence with one another, as the great team they are, cleaned up as they go and made sure everything was completed and satisfactory before leaving. I have NEVER experienced a team that works together so well and hard, and did everything to perfection, specifications and to my satisfaction, no questions asked, and had very fair pricing. I had various home projects that needed done, which included; Kitchen Demo (removal) to a built-in-wall & shelving unit, kitchen cabinets, counter and back splashes, all baseboards, carpet and tile removal from my kitchen, dining room, living room and stairs, commode and sink and tile floor, removed and hauled off, (they even repaired my sink valve and went to Home Depot to pick up necessary supplies as needed and they took old kitchen cabinets to my storage building!), among many other CONSTRUCTION REPAIRS to include; Drywall Cracks, Ceiling and Nail Pops repaired (which, by the way, he used screws and reinforcements, which was done correctly and not just a quick fix like most repair people would do!). His drywall repairs and textures, matched to perfection. The new ceiling and wall painting, on my 20' walls, along with the perfect paint lines, up against the ceiling paint was PERFECT, just to name a few of the projects that were done to perfection. He preformed all construction quickly, and supplied the very best quality and expertise bar-none! There is no short-cuts with Gamez Construction, Drywall and Repair. You get the very best, quality, and a professional job, anyone could ever ask for! It was a pleasure to have Rosalio Gamez and his wonderful team work in my home! He was both professional, gracious, respectful and courteous through-out the entire job, all the way to the end. My house was as clean after the job as when it had been before. If you need drywall, or any construction repair, and/or painting job, ask expert, Rosalio Gamez. He's by far the very best in the industry! I would highly and strongly recommend Rosalio Gamez & his incredible team, which I do not do easily. He went above and beyond the Scope of Work and Quality and Perfection! I just hope, when I need his services again, which will be soon; for marble and tile work, he will come back to me! Rosalia, if you see this, please forgive me for putting you through the wringer, being so hard on you and your team, and Thank You! You have my full trust and respect now, Rosalio! You are a real trooper! Thank you again! Iris Selasky

Ever tackled a big remodel job for us and did an excellent job. He installed laminate floors throughout our home and remodeled our kitchen (painted cabinets, installed granite, and new backsplash). He also completed several painting projects (trim & bedrooms). He was easy to communicate with and finished the job within a reasonable amount of time.

I called Mr. Fixit Fast for an interior painting job I just didn't seem to find time to do myself. Holly and her painting team were wonderful to work with and I couldn't be happier! Troy painted a house worth of baseboards, door frames and a reuse cabinet, so precise they all look like new. I will definitely call Mr. Fixit Fast again!

MJ did a great job painting our cabinets. I prefer working with smaller shops because of less overhead and better service. He did a great job and communicated well before and after. When I noticed a couple of minor spots after he left, he came out the next morning and completed the job to my satisfaction. He was knowledgeable and honest about what he would do and wouldn't do. I wish everyone took the ride in their work that he does.

I sent James a photo of the problem cabinet and he told me immediately what the problem was - water leak under the kitchen counter top, which required new counter tops and laminate. He came the next evening and measured the area and brought samples with him. Very easy to talk to and likeable. He has many other skills so I'm thinking of hiring him to install some flooring.

Robert refinished four tables that were used in my daughter's wedding. He provided several samples of different crackle finish look, and we were able to get the finish that we wanted. Everything was completed in a timely manner and at the agreed upon cost. Many people commented positively on the look of the tables. It was a great experience from start to finish.

I needed a cabinet for my bathroom and found her on Craigslist. She had a inventory for me to look at. I found my bathroom cabinet and so much more!! One look at this old beat up China hutch and I knew it would be beautiful again one day. Eliana pulled out all the stops with this piece. It was overwhelming when she brought it to my home! Tears sprang to my eyes. It truly is a masterpiece. She is amazing at what she does. Her mind is so creative and her attention to detail is spot on.

I had my mother’s old dining room table refinished and was very happy with the way it turned out. Sheri’s attention to detail and work quality was exceptional. We ran into a little problem with the table but Sheri was not willing to settle until the table was in perfect condition. Will definitely be using Furniture Medic for all my future needs.

They did a great job. I had a few projects and they completed them in a timely manner. I had everything from kickplates on cabinets to flooring a hallway to fixing a door jam. Did a great job. I have recommended them to my friends for their handyman projects. I will be calling them back for other projects also. Very very reasonable in price also. Great job for a lot less money then my other quotes.

He also finished on schedule and was there every day he said. He also has responded quickly to follow-up requests. All in all a beautiful job.

I highly, highly recommend Rod if you're considering new cabinets. He custom built all of our kitchen cabinets plus a large cabinet for the bathroom. Working with him was great. He came in and found out what we wanted and suggested great ideas we hadn't thought of. He provided drawings plus 3-D renderings that really helped us envision the end result. Everthing that he installed 100% matched the drawings and renderings and looks even better in real life. The cabinets, hardware, doors, drawers - everything - are top notch. It is sturdy and well made and looks fantastic. Even the guy who came in to measure for our countertops admired Rod's workmanship. We could not be happier with these cabinets. On top of the excellent quality/appearance and perfect installation of the cabinets, Rod is really great to work with. Super nice, very responsive. We had issues with a painter that WE hired (not affiliated with Rod's business) and it caused a delay in the cabinet install. Long story short, this painter issue caused delays that affected our timeline and Rod's schedule, too. Rod was very supportive and patient while we got a new painter and tried to sort it all out. Rod went way above and beyond through this process and stuck with us while we dealt with the problematic painter. I will post pics once we have the backsplash/counters in. In summary, if you want gorgeous, high quality cabinets, made by someone who takes pride in his work, delivers what he says he will, and is a pleasure to work with, call Rod!

I initially spoke with Levy regarding a single project. He provided professional advice and customized a plan to complete all of my remaining projects (wood floors, cabinetry, backsplash) within a tight timeline at a great price! Levy was very honest and direct throughout the process and managed the work each step of the way. I would recommend and will continue to utilize Levy for future projects!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

  • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
  • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
  • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
  • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

How much does it cost to refinish kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing revives dull or dinged-up doors and drawers. The cost of cabinet refinishing will vary based on factors such as the number of linear feet of cabinetry you have, the amount of nicks and scratches that need repair, the level of detail on your cabinets, and more. The pros typically will remove the cabinet doors and then sand or strip them down to create a beautifully smooth new surface. After prepping the surface with primer as needed, the pros may then repaint or stain the doors to give them a new lease on life. Cabinets with intricate detail or extensive surface damage will likely cost more to refinish, as they will take more time and effort. Keep in mind that you should only elect to do cabinet refinishing if the cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you plan to keep your current kitchen layout for a number of years. The investment will be wasted if the cabinet boxes are in disrepair and will need replacement soon, or if you’re planning a remodel in two years. The national average price range for cabinet refinishing is between $1,500 and $6,000.
