I'm usually not that impressed with the taste of wedding cakes I've had at weddings I've attended, they're always just okay. Since we were not planning on having additional desserts, we wanted our wedding cake to be really delicious. Since my fiancee and I lived in different states and held a wedding in a state neither of lived in, finding a pastry chef and doing tastings was not easy. We had to try to squeeze in tastings along with hair and makeup trials during a 3-4 day trip. I scheduled 3 tastings and Leigh from A Sweet Life was the most professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. . . we learned everything we would ever need to know about wedding cakes during our tasting. She took the time to properly prepare for the tasting by having us answer some questions to determine what flavors of cake and filling we would be interested in trying and the choices were extensive. We were pretty set on carrot cake with cream cheese filling but after the tasting we chose 3 flavors: carrot with salted caramel and vanilla bean filling, marble with raspberry and blackberry filling, and hummingbird with bananas foster and vanilla bean filling as it was hard to stick to just one flavor after tasting the other flavors. The carrot cake was make just the way I like it with coconut and pineapple juice as the sweeteners. The hummingbird cake was a banana and pineapple based cake that even my brother who absolutely detests bananas liked. The only downside was the venue didn't seem to cut the sheet cake properly. Leigh makes extra layers so the marble sheet cake had 3 layers of filling, 2 raspberry and 1 blackberry. When I was walking around during the reception mingling with guests, I noticed the cake pieces didn't look like they contained all the layers as I was seeing plates that just had one layer of filling and pieces of all different sizes. Leigh and I had discussed prescoring the sheet cake to make the exact number of servings needed after deducting the amount of servings obtained from the tiered cake. There were some guests who ended up not being able to attend but not so many to account for the large box of leftover cake plus 2 servings of each cake for me and my husband. We had a family dinner in the evening with my entire side of relatives and served the leftover cake and still had a large tupperware dish stuffed with extra cake. Not that I'm complaining about getting to enjoy more cake, I'm just disappointed the guests didn't get the full flavor profile. Both the carrot and the marble cake tasted as delicious on our wedding day as they did at our tasting (I think it tasted better than the venue's entrees) and the leftover marble cake was still moist the 2nd and 3rd days. We are looking forward to eating our hummingbird bridal tier on our first anniversary (if we can even manage to wait that long as we were talking about just eating right on the wedding night).

I don’t even know where to begin with this review! She did such an amazing job on our wedding cake. The grooms cake was beyond amazing! When I told her I loved coffee and my family and she had free range to do as she pleased with the grooms cake she delivered!!! Everything was perfect!!!!! Worth every penny spent!!! I don’t plan on having another wedding but I’ll for sure be hiring her for future cakes!!!

We hired Leigh to make our wedding cake and she did an absolutely amazing job from start to finish. The cake tasting appointment was professional and fun. She took the time to explain options, let us try the cake, frosting, and filling flavors that we were interested in, and added a few extra options. We had an idea of what we wanted for the design of our cake, and provided a few pictures prior to our tasting appointment. When we discussed the design during the appointment, Leigh had already come up with some amazing and creative ideas to add to our vision. She is an amazing artist and made a coffee mug out of sugar (to represent our love for coffee), and on the mug she hand painted a picture that was inspired by a piece of art my husband and I created together. Our guests, as well as ourselves were in awe of how the cake turned out. It was beautiful and tasted amazing. I can't say enough good things about Leigh. Thank you so much Leigh for making our day extra special!
