Juan was amazing to work with. He took the time to find exactly what I wanted, was very affordable, did a great job installing the granite, protected the floors in the house so he wouldn't damage anything, and most of all is trustworthy. I had another contractor bail on some other jobs at the house and Juan graciously offered to complete the drywall/painting work. He made it look really good! Juan communicates very well, shows up when he says he will, and completes the job with integrity. I will be using him in the future and highly recommend him. Trustworthy contractors are rare to find these days.

We had a large project that required installing and finishing new drywall as well patching, repair, and retexturing some of the existing drywall. Isaac and his crew did a great job in a timely manner and at a fair price. They also repaired some framing issues. Isaac stays on top of the job and makes sure it is done right and in a professional manner. We will definitely be hiring Decid's Painting and More for our next renovation project. They have abundant skills in the renovation process.

Anytime you invite someone into your home to do work your always nervous because you just don't know how it will turn out. I contracted Antonio Espinoza to sheetrock two differnt locations in my house. He showed up ontime, ready to work, you can't ask for more than that. Hurricane Harvey created a leak in my roof that dripped into my movie room. Had the roof repaired then I called him out to do the sheetrock work. The area was over 5ft long as you can see by the green tape. When they started they put down plastic to protect everything in the room, from dust and debris, and insulation. He sheetrocked it taped/floated/textured and then cleaned up. The room looks like nothing ever happened. I tend to have pretty high expectations and they exceeded all of them. Prior to Harvey I had a whole home water filtration system put in but the plummber that did the work is not sheetrock guy. I had Antonio fix this as well. He did such a good job you couldn't even tell I added the system to the house. I absolutely love the work they do, and how they did it. As far as price goes FAIR, FAIR, FAIR I feel that the price was spot on for the work that was done. They respected my home which I loved, not marching around like they own the place. The workmanship was top notch, I found my sheetrock man. I won't use any other company PERIOD!!! The only thing I can say is if you want it done right quit reading reviews this is who you call.

Stan messaged me on Thumbtack within just a few hours of my post. He had a detailed description of what he was going to do and a reasonable price to do a relatively routine ceiling drywall patch. Stan and Craig showed up on time for the job and set up a large area of plastic tarp to shield my guest bedroom from debris. They were very thorough in the repair and meticulous to match the texture of the replacement with the surrounding ceiling. I didn’t expect them to paint the celling after they were done but he did! I didn’t think I had any matching paint on hand and Stan was willing to run to get some. That’s how dedicated to a great job these guys are. We ended up finding some paint but the fact that he was willing to go out of his way shows his integrity. I WILL use them again if ever needed (God willing I wont need too but...) because they offer a high quality service and superior customer service. In the day and age of contractors hosing their clients out of money, Galveston Contractors is a welcoming exception!

Robert and his crew came and installed a new flat rolled roof and replaced ceiling drywall that had damage from the old leaky roof. The new roof is leak free and the new drywall looks great! I was pleased with the work and Robert's crew was courteous. Will contact Robert for future projects.

I used Mike and his crew to repair some cracks in the drywall/ceiling, repair the base of a wood door frame that had rotted, secure some loose chimney flashing, and hang a new chandelier on a very tall ceiling. I was very happy with the results, particularly the drywall - little to no sign that the ceilings have been repaired now. Communication was somewhat spotty at times while Mike was on other jobs, was a bit of confusion here and there, but overall the job was done within the timeframe needed.

Edwin was the best decision I made for our renovation/remodel. Edwin remodel the kitchen / master bathroom and added an addition of 240 sq ft to our 102 yr old house. The remodel took 5 months and he saw every detail through to the end. He took care of permitting, revising and adapting our original drawings, and advising us on improvements that were needed outside the original scope of work such as new insulation, new incoming water pipes, and modern techniques to improve upon architect's design. I was constantly price checking him, and found his pricing very fair. He was timely on a day to day basis and kept us well informed on what work was happening and if work was not happening, why. We would definitely recommend Brivenca Builders and would use them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
