Rick and his crew arrived at the agreed upon time and went straight to work. The grass/weeds were really overgrown and everything needed to be cut, edged and weed whacked. They took care of everything we asked. We are going to set up a lawn maintenance schedule, as well as get quotes for driveway and fence replacement. I definitely recommend Rick At Your Service!

Couldn't ask for better service. Our house was built in 1937 and over the last 4 years we've dealt with A LOT of contractors. Last summer we had the misfortune of hiring an unlicensed concrete specialist to install a driveway. The severe angle of the grade they created at the approach caused cars to bottom out, and even trucks to scrape their undercarriage along the entrance. Dulce handled all the permitting, the communication with the city, and worked directly with a city engineer to ensure that the job was fixed and done correctly -- and at a fair price. Her communication on the job was flawless, delays (due to the city inspection process, no fault of her own) were communicated well in advance. I sincerely wish we had found her earlier.

Keinon did an excellent job with my driveway project. I'm selling my house and when the survey came back I realized that my driveway encroached on the adjacent property by 3.5 ft. We were under the gun to get this fixed within a matter of days in order to keep our closing date. Keinon came out on a Sunday morning to scope out the project and help me to determine the best path forward in order to minimize cost while at the same time giving the new homeowner a structurally sound driveway. His recommendation was to shave off the part that encroached on the other property and add another section to the other side to maintain symmetry of the driveway. Our driveway was curvy so the challenge was to remove the unwanted parts while still trying to keep the original flow intact. While working under a tight deadline Keinon worked late into the evening twice to ensure that he met the deadline and finished the job. I'm happy with his workmanship, his attention to detail and his genuine concern for the quality of his work. I would highly recommend Keinon Denham for any of your driveway, sidewalk or foundation projects.

Alfred and his team were very fast and efficient. I had replaced a small window with a larger one and needed the brick reworked around the window in addition to repair to a brick fireplace, concrete repaired on my driveway and several places around the house where settling had left cracks. They completed the work very quickly and to my satisfaction. I will be using them again.

I had Capitol of TX Concrete pour a 6' X 40' patio extension. The finish work is some of the best I have ever seen having previously worked in construction. They were prompt, courteous, and respectful of the lawn & landscape. They also did a great job of cleaning up before they left. They also applied a polyurethane sealant to the driveway & walkways after the wood dividers had rotted. Again, same high level of skill, professionalism, & courteousness. I am a mechanical engineer and very detailed & critical and these guys exceeded my expectations. Really excellent work & a pleasure to work with!

Jesus is very kind and was patient with my questions along the way. He paid attention to the little details that set this project out front from the others that had bid on it. We are thrilled with our driveway and are actually going to use Jesus again. Even my 2 of my neighbors want to use him for their own home improvement projects

Mr. Rafferty and son were very honest about maintenance that my driveway needed. They did not try to over sell me on work that was not needed. Both father and son truly cared about the job they did. I had them patch places on half of driveway that is 22 years old and then they went over with an oil based sealer with two coats. The other half of driveway was redone back in 2010 and was sealed as well. I have had other bids for work on my driveway and have asked questions about aspects of work recommended and in comparing answers from different contractors you can tell whom is being most honest with you. I would recommend Lone Star Paving with no reservations.

I can't say enough about the good experience I had with Albert and his dad in getting a new driveway. Albert was very responsive from the very beginning in giving me an estimate to the completion of the job. He was always available by phone, text or email to let me know what and when the next phase of the project was. The price he gave was very competitive and very fair and the work they did was very good. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up the job site before leaving. I would recommend Servin concrete.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
