One of the best broad minded Lawyers - his exceptional work flow, skills, creativity and knowledge of law made my case much easier to navigate. He is ready to deal with difficult situations and solve the problems together. Late night texts are responded to promptly, and he's talked me down from many cliffs where I just wanted to jump... He always takes care of the job. Eric Lim always maintains very good relation with prosecutors and legal staff in the court, which will only help you in the end. To top it off, he's just a great guy ... which means a lot when your struggling through a difficult legal situation.

Michael has been a tremendous help with my divorce. He's been informative, thorough, honest, and makes himself available. Easily one of the nicest lawyers I've worked with, and at a very fair price. I highly recommend.

Unfortunately for my situation, Dylan was the 3rd lawyer I had to retain to assist with my legal proceedings. I wish I had found Dylan earlier, I would have only had 1 lawyer. He did a phenomenal job and stuck to his original quote, unlike my previous 2 experiences. Very helpful and very responsive. If you need a family lawyer and you do not hire Dylan, you are doing it wrong – trust me!

After years of dealing with the same attorney, with no resolution, I decided it was time for a massive change in action. I looked and researched several family/custody attorneys in Austin. The one, and only one that even stood out enough for me to contact, was Kimberly at the Law Office of Kleinhans Gruber. I have been a single mom to my daughter since she was born 9 years ago. My previous attorney was no help after years of representation, he just kept padding his wallet wanting to take the easy way out. That translated into more trauma for my daughter and myself. Kimberly and her team took action straight away, and she was able to help me with payment plans for my option, since I don't have a second income. Having had a child with a previous background in verbal and physical violence, has been a difficult journey, as I don't want the cycle to repeat itself with my daughter. Kim and her team treat me like a person, not just another client. She is extremely professional, and I will never use any one in Texas as an attorney, other than Kim and her team. I can't begin to tell you how much relief I have had, even in the first 2 weeks of her representation. She is efficient, return calls or emails are always done in 24 hours. That is something I have never experienced before. If all law offices had the integrity and care Kim and her team put into each client as they have me, the world of law and domestic situations would be more fairly and easily resolved. I highly recommend her services if you want professionalism at the highest level, and not to be treated as just another client. I am a testament to the work they have put so diligently in for my daughter and myself.

I spoke to several attorneys over the phone and Adam was the most informative and compassionate even before meeting in person. This has been a scary, emotional and intimidating process and Adam walked me through every step in detail and assured me he would make it as seamless as possible. He’s been very responsive and easy to reach and has never made me feel that any question asked was uncalled for. The divorce is not yet completed but so far I couldn’t have made a better choice then hiring Adam to help me through my divorce.

I am beyond grateful for Diana Buss! I had contacted numerous other attorneys for assistance to get my fiancé out of jail due to warrants we were unaware of for a court case that was not dismissed as we originally thought. Many attorneys were unable to assist due to my fiancé being arrested in a different county from where the warrants were issued plus this wasn't the first time warrants were issued due to a failure to appear. I made one last effort to contact an attorney and that was Diana Buss. My main concern was to get my fiancé out of jail, but the bonds were extremely high and unaffordable even with help from a bail bondsman. Diana came up with a solution that none of the other attorneys had thought of, which was to just get the court cases dismissed instead of setting bond and THEN tackling the court cases. Not only did she come up with a solution that no other attorneys had mentioned, but she came through within a day! My fiancé was released and she got the charges dismissed! I have never seen an attorney work so fast! I absolutely love her! She is very responsive and so understanding. I feel like she really listens to all my concerns and addresses all my questions, and trust me I was a bundle of nerves so I asked her a million questions. She is my top recommendation for anyone looking for an attorney and she will be my go-to if I ever need representation. Hopefully I won't, but if I do I know that I will be in good hands. Thank you!!!

I found Jacki to be a diligent, hardworking and highly competent attorney who was also very personable and a pleasure to work with. She provided very thoughtful legal review and often identified legal issues that other lawyers missed, which could have been costly to the business. I enjoyed discussing technology matters with Jacki. She was always interested in learning more about the business side of technology and was very happy to help me better understand why certain legal issues, like warranties, indemnities and licensing rights, matter more than others. She had a way of making complicated legal concepts simple. I really appreciated her teaching style because, the longer that she and I worked together, the better I became at negotiating deals. It was clear to me that Jacki has a passion for both technology and the practice of law. Jacki earned my respect with her strong work ethic and her commitment to excellence. She is trustworthy and dependable and did a great job for me during my tenure at the company. I can give Jacki my highest recommendation.

Very responsive to her clients. She helped me numerous times. No one likes to need an attorney. Don’t worry. Call her. I referred her many times to my friends. They were very pleased. They are still my friends! Jeanne is fair and honest. She puts your needs first like great lawyers should. You can’t ask more in an attorney.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
