Mr. Hernandez, first of all was very professional. Not only did he reply in a timely manner he was here the next morning after my request. Then he examines the tree that the City of Plano said was a violation according to city code. Trees must be a minimal 14' from the street to tree limbs. I have an official come out and they even saw that the tree was over the 14' margin of city code. Long story short Hernandez services did not only trim the tree to city code but trimmed even more off the tree over the street to make sure if ice accords I will be safe. I highly recommend hiring Mr. Hernandez for all your tree trimming or landscaping services. Amazing job gentlemen.

Once I hired them, the date of install was set and they arrived early and finished the job quickly. Left my yard very clean and even hauled away some tree limbs that I had sitting around along with the old fencing. Thanks Jamesray Baker Construction for everything!

Santos and his crew did an awesome job with my landscaping needs. I had sod installed in the back yard, tree rings put around 2 trees and had a tree trimmed. They completed all that and did a few minor additional things on their own. Santos gave me a very reasonable quote for this work. I would definitely recommend them and I will use them again if I have any landscaping needs.

I love these guys! We had alot of tree work to be done, and they showed up on time for the estimate, (which by the way beat 3 other companies) and were on time for the day of the job. Their care for their surroundings was excellent. They even worked thru the rain. The work these guys do is dangerous and extremely labor intensive and they did it perfectly. Their cleanup was beautiful, and nothing was broken. I really do appreciate the job Stan's Tree Service did for us and I will recommend them to everyone! James Williams

Eric and Juan responded quickly to my project of tree trimming and debris removal following the recent storms we had that affected us here in SW Fort Worth. Eric offered a very fair quote for the work to be done. The crew showed up on time and ready to work. I had quite a few broken branches up high in my trees that were tricky to get to and remove but Southwest handled the job with great expertise. They also cleaned up the leftover leaves and small branches and twigs in a very meticulous manner. All in all I was very satisfied and will call them again for my future tree trimming needs. Thanks, Eric and Juan! Jeff Pratt

I recommend Tommy at TCB Lawn and Trees to everyone! He does my front and back yard - which has never looked better - including lawn, shrubs, tree trimming/removal, leaf pickup, gutter cleaning and other yard work. He also made a great rockery around the pool area with cleaned out beds and full quality mulching. Fixed my fence, too! Pricing is good and he is very reliable!

Jose’s work was great! I had two major leaks in my system and he basically had to excavate my yard and remove an old stump from a cut down tree that was never removed. He was professional and on time and really took the time to walk me through all his repairs and how to work my system. Thank you Jose for your hard work and making my system operable again.

Project completed and we were very satisfied with the end results. The tree we needed drop was extremely close to several obstacles. They dropped the tree in an exact location missing all of them. They even had them drop another tree after seeing their work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
