A&J is the best handyman in Houston. They are reliable, honest, appropriately priced, and have excellent service. This year I remodeled a condo. I had the floors taken out, the bathroom gutted, new fixtures placed, added addition lighting, repainted, retiled, etc. This was a massive project for one person, but A&J had creative solutions to every issue that I faced. I could not have finished the condo without A&J. Here is a list of all the jobs: -All electrical rewiring -Installed recessed lighting in living room and bathroom -Installed sheet rock in bathroom -Installed under cabinet lighting -Installed bedroom ceiling fan -Installed subway tiles in the bathroom and kitchen backsplash -Painted the ceiling and walls -Repaired damaged drywall -Installed bedroom curtain rods -Changed air vent covers and light fixtures -Installed complicated hanging bike rack -Installed tension shower caddy -Built numerous of items around my condo -Installed shoe rack in closet -Fixed issue with hardwood floors I have two other friends that have used and continue to use A&J services. Please see the before and after photos that I uploaded.

My wife and I decided to remodel both bathrooms in our house. They needed a fresh look and a complete update. Having seen the quality of work done by Tell Projects, I knew that I wanted them to do the work. I had Zach come by my house with his truck (the mobile showroom) and show my wife the many samples of flooring, tile, cabinets, and hardware. She was so impressed with Zach and the quality of his products that she agreed with me that Tell Projects was the company we wanted to do the work for us. Tell Projects gave us a 10-14 day estimate to finish the work. The workers were courteous and respectful of both our home and the three cats we have in the house. Like any remodeling project there were a couple of things that we added to the project. Both times Zach came by to inspect the issue and let us know how much the additional work would cost. They finished both rooms in 16 days due to the additional work we requested. The whole process was a very positive experience. None of the nightmare stories that you hear about remodeling. Both Zach and Ellie kept in constant contact with my wife and I. They answered our questions and made suggestions for every decision that had to be made from the tile, to the flooring, to the number of shower heads we needed. Each day the men worked quickly and cleaned up before leaving. I would recommend Tell Projects for any job you have from replacing a door to adding a room to your home. If I could use three words to describe this company they would be honest, respectful, and quality. Thank you Tell Projects and especially Zach and Ellie for two beautiful bathrooms!! Ken Robinson

Like many other reviews, we were skeptical that Vadim would provide high quality service at such a relatively low price that was much lower than any competitor. We bought all the paint ourselves and he started the job within a week of us engaging him, and finished in only six days. He was almost half of other quotes. He did a very good job painting and we had him paint the entire interior of the house including walls, trim, ceilings and white cabinets. He also did prep work on our walls and fixed all of the holes before painting. He was even able to fix a couple pieces of trim for a few more dollars. My fiancé is quite particular and was very happy with the result. He is hard worker and gets to straight to the job with little wasted time. He did a good job of keeping in communication with us during rh process as well. We had a little cleaning up to do after he left as our house was fully furnished when he did the job which made it more challenging for him. He has agreed to come and do some minor touch ups to his work that we have located as we settled back in. We are recommending him to several friends as well who need interior paint work. His combination of price and work quality can't be bested in the Houston area. We would hire him again.

Richard exceeded our expectations. He truly went above and beyond to ensure excellent quality services. We are first time home buyers and purchased a fixer upper. Richard painted, completely reconstructed one of our cabinets in the kitchen, and did some plumbing work for us. He was very pleasant to speak with and patient when answering questions. His price is unreal for what you actually get!

Rebuilt my existing cabinet backs after flood damage saving big money compared to new cabinets. Most people only wanted to build or sell me new cabinets. Came back promptly to fix a few minor issues.

Cesar Logan and his team form Houston Local Handyman were professional, efficient, and friendly. They redid our mudroom with custom cabinets, caulked our sink, mounted the tv and created a master closet in our bedroom. They were a dream to work with and can literally do everything! We recommended them to our friends and family.

I just bought a new house and needed some work done around the house that the home builder wanted to charge me arms and legs for. Found Robert here and hired him to install 4 ceiling fans, porch lights, garage opener and door knobs for all the cabinets. He got everything done within a few hours. Reasonable price and high quality work! I'll definitely hire him again for future home improvement needs.

Aaron and his crew were prompt, professional, and personable. They patiently answered all my questions (and I had many, lol). Aaron and Mike arrived at agreed upon time, set up, addressed my concerns, done the work I wanted efficiently...didn't take all day like I thought it would, and didn't leave a big mess (I liked that!). Prices were great compared to the few places I called. They provided exceptional customer service and my doors turned out Beautiful!!! I would highly recommend Door Restore & More! (I'll add photos later)

After shopping around for a few months, we found Premium Cabinets. We talked with Lane and he was able to get us better quality Cabinets for a lot less than anyone else that we talked to. That includes big stores like HD, Lowes and Ikea and some other custom cabinet places. I cannot express enough how grateful we are to have found these guys. OUSTANDING service and AWESOME communication and a FANTASTIC price for the quality that we got. If you are looking for cabinets, do yourself a favor and at least talk to or go see Lane at Premium Cabinets. No one will beat his service and I would be shocked to see someone beat his price! I will post some before and now pics of the kitchen, we are still have a lot of work to do so focus on the cabinets lol

Curtis just finished building and installing cabinets and counters for me on one of my jobs. 5 8' cabinets, an 11' cabinet and a 12' cabinet, all with laminate counters on them, which he fabricated. After the cabinets were delivered and put into place, Curtis adjusted all the drawers and doors as needed. The man is very good at what he does, he is an artist and true professional in his field. I've already got more work for him and I highly recommend to anybody considering him, you can't go wrong here.

Over the years I have used many contractors but none come close to the Araz group. They initially came to remove crazy wallpaper from my ceiling. It was not a fun job. They did amazing work. Got it off and touched up and repainted my ceiling. As they were leaving they told me they could fix my horrible broken front door which 5 people had looked at and declined to fix telling me I needed an entire new one. Not only did they fix it. It lookes incredible. Instead of spending $1000+ for a new one I spent a fraction of that. I then had them do so many small jobs I needed. I needed some floor boards installed, knobs on cabinets, doors and trim painted, tile drilled into for wall gadgets, a sliding door that was too big installed where my washer and dryer are located. They did it all. They were punctual, neat and so Kind. I will use them again and again and again.

We had our entire kitchen redone after our home was destroyed by hurricane Harvey. After researching many cabinet makers, we went with Conroe Custom Cabinets. Bennie and his team were quick, efficient, and replaced/upgraded our kitchen and bathrooms at below what others had bid. We are totally pleased with his attention to detail and the absolutely gorgeous cabinets he made for our family home.

We had Joel two remodels: one for the house I was selling and a large one for the new house. The first was a freshening of the house that included kitchen makeover of new flooring, granite countertops, painting of the cabinets and an entire repaint of the interior along with bathroom counters and tile floors - time 3-4 weeks. The purchased house was a complet redo- 4400 Sq ft, Flooring - engineered hardwoods, tile and carpet. rebuild of kitchen cabinets and relocation and installation of appliances, painting of entire interior with wall and trim fixes and updates, new fixtures and countertops in bathrooms, major remodel of master bath with custom cabinets, change out of all electrical switches and outlets. Tome was approxiamately 7 months Both jobs were exceptional - for refererence the smaller project was in the $25k range and the larger project was in the $125k range. Joel and his crew worked eveyday and showed up EVERYDAY! this was huge. the project went a little slower than anticipated but it was a sizable task. We are so happy with the professionalism and attention to detail we are looking to Joel for a 3rd Project as well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

  • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
  • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
  • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
  • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.
