We had three exterior spot lights installed and the kitchen faucet. Wilson improvised on the spot lights and picked up the necessary screws to make them work. Overall excellent experience. Too many positive reviews outweighed the few negatives IMO.

Cody was absolutely outstanding! He was able to replace my fan within 30 minutes of coming. He even informed me that he would be running late and made sure that I was still comfortable with his time frame. After seeing his work on the fan, I revealed to him that I have several other projects that I want done around the house and he came in with some fantastic quotes on kitchen remodeling and wallpaper teardown/painting! He really is a one man army and gets the job done properly and respectfully. He wiped his shoes before entering my house and he was extremely appreciate of my personal property and the fact that he was doing work in my master bedroom. He cleaned up after completing the job and thanked me again for the opportunity to perform the work. I cannot stress enough how truly terrific he is. Before I hired him, I saw 46 total reviews and only one of them was 2 stars, the rest were all 4 and 5 star reviews. I must say, after seeing the negative comment I really don't know what the reviewer had such a problem with. Everyone else, myself included have been beyond pleased with his outstanding work and craftsmanship! Cody, keep up the phenomenal work, it truly does speak for itself. I'm really looking forward to working with you on all my other house DIY projects! I truly appreciate it and once again, thank you for all your help. Best, Ben

Install kitchen backsplash. I am very pleased with the whole experience. Isaac arrived when he said he would, gave me all the information necessary for me to pick out and purchase the materials and worked well with my schedule. The price was very reasonable and the workers were courteous and fast. I love the back splash and will definitely use This business again.

Originally Tell-projects came into re-do my kitchen backsplash. They saw that my kitchen was falling apart being it is a kitchen from 1988. I saw pictures of past projects they have done and Zack couldn't be nicer! He told me "Rebecca, I have over 15 years of experience, our pictures speak for themselves, you can trust me." And although I was hesitant, I did. Tell projects refaced all of my kitchen cabinet and rebuilt my entire pantry with new shelving they cut and made on site. They made the pantry door made look brand new. They sanded and painted and stained and installed and repaired and tried to save me as much money as they could along the way. I have to stay that I was very skeptical but they did an excellent job! The workers treated my house like it was there own home and were so respectful of me and my kids. They always made sure to come after my kids left for school as to not bother breakfast time. They got me an incredible price for gorgeous white granite and installed all new door handles The backsplash is gorgeous white subway tile with a mosaic above my stove top. My kitchen looks brand new and it was just a simple update that took 4 days. Best part was the price, it was excellent for the amount of work that they did!!! My friends wont stop talking about my kitchen and I am a very happy customer, so is my husband ;) Thanks Zach and the crew!!! I cant wait until my next project with you guys, get ready, I know I am!!! I will definitely recommenced them!

I am glad I hired W&W Painters for my kitchen cabinets, front door and some outside work. William was organized and professional. His main guy did most of the work and William filled in. He also has people for specific things such as spraying cabinets and changing ceiling look. All of the workers did a great job and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

This was my first experience with Thumbtack and it was excellent! I needed the drywall that was behind my old kitchen backsplash removed and replaced before the new tile and granite goes in. Stan answered me immediately, gave me a very reasonable quote and said he would be out the next morning. His guy was there early 7:50am! Stan was in a minor car accident and got delayed but still showed up. I asked him about other what other things he could do for me because I was so impressed I would like to hire again in the future.

Daniel and his brother did an excellent job installing our kitchen cabinets, countertop and trim. He custom built a trim around an exposed duct for the hood and made it tie into the existing crown moulding. It took creative thinking and initiative to do that. He even added a hinge to allow access to the duct - just shows the thoughtfulness. He went the extra mile (literally) to pick up a cabinet to replace one that we ordered the wrong size and even helped me return the large cabinet that was the wrong size; and that was on top of picking up all of the other cabinets the day before. He also finished off the baseboard in the kitchen to complete it, even though it wasn't something we had talked about prior to starting the job. He was very accommodating, pleasant to work with, and gave good prices. He was also good about responding to texts and calls. He said he comes from a family of carpenters and the workmanship shows. Would definitely consider hiring him for future jobs.

Finding Jose was truly a godsend for us! We were under a strict time crunch in finishing the upgrades to an investment property we own (to get it ready to rent), and the guy we hired to install the backsplash in the kitchen totally bailed on us at the last minute...didn't show up and wouldn't answer our text messages and phone calls. I was really stressing about finding someone in a hurry and then I learned about Thumbtack, and I'm so glad I did!!! We received four responses in a short period of time and chose Jose because of his reviews and also because I liked what/how he wrote to me about bidding the job, he just "sounded" like a good guy. Well, he IS a good guy! When he found out we were in a bind with needing to get the work done ASAP, he offered to do the work on a SUNDAY!! I was worried that I would have to wait at least a week or more to get someone to do the job, so he truly saved the day! Jose was on time (so rare these days), very professional and extremely likable. And best of all, the work he did was perfect!! We could tell as we watched him at work that he is a true craftsman and enjoys what he does. We would highly recommend Jose for any tiling job you have....I guarantee you that you won't be disappointed! THANKS JOSE!!!! :-)

When the job was finished we were very happy and pleased with the work that was done. It was exactly what we expected and more. We received very friendly and professions service. My husband and I would totally recommend a Texas renovation and will use them again for any future work that will be needed in our home.

My daughter and I hired Realtá Remodeling in November 2015 to make repairs to the interior and exterior of our home as we are preparing to sell it and we are so satisfied and impressed with Osman and his team that we are now having second thoughts about selling our home! The remodeling of our home was done absolutely perfectly and on time, everything that was listed in the contract was finished and Osman even made some touches to part of the house that were not included in the contract, which we were grateful for. We had work done to the majority of our house: Master restroom/bedroom (the shower was demolished, a new shower with tile was built, damaged sheetrock was repaired along with plumbing issues in the shower drain, countertops were refinished, leaks under the sinks were fixed, a hole in the bedroom wall was patched, the walls and ceiling were primed and painted and new carpet trim was installed.) Guest restroom (the bathtub was refinished, cabinets were replaced and new wood was installed under the sink where there was a leak, rotten baseboards were replaced.) Living/office/family/laundry room (the walls in each room were primed and painted, ceiling texture was perfectly matched, the wood frame of the windows were sanded, caulked, primed and painted, doors were replaced and painted, holes were patched.) Kitchen (countertops were refinished, new sink was installed, the walls and ceiling were primed and painted.) Exterior (rotten wood was replaced, metal was replaced and welded, both garage doors were replaced, rotten backyard siding was fixed, painting and priming were also done). We are so happy with Realtá Remodeling and Osman that we have referred him to numerous friends and family, my daughter and I highly recommend Realtá Remodeling if you are looking for an honest contractor who works hard to make you happy and follows through with the contract. Thank you Realtá Remodeling, Osman and your staff for making our remodeling process an easy one!

Amazing work. Not only did I receive the best quote, he did an amazing job. He was detailed in what I needed for the job, picked up my materials, and what he was going to do. He gave me visuals of my options for the tile pattern (direction). He removed my vinyl flooring from the kitchen, moved appliances around as needed, He was clean, his work was clean, did not leave a mess. Very pleased. Saul is courteous and a very good person. Have already referred him, and would hire him again Had a backsplash installed and tile work in the kitchen .

Miguel does excellent work. It took us a little over a week to connect. He tiled a backsplash area and part of a wall in my garage apt. I already had the tile so Miguel had to supply the grout, glue, caulk etc. I asked him to use Grey grout, which he did. It looked great in contrast to the white subway tile! I love it. He also did some caulking for me on the tub and kitchen sink. I am very happy and will not hesitate to use Miguel again for any tiling work. First class!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
