Juan is just superb, he knew about plumbing, electricity and everything that he needed to replace the garbage disposer, he wound up having to replace the pipes under both sinks and he was very reasonable in his labor costs, I am totally pleased with his service and will definetly call him first with all of my repairs.

Daniel is very professional and considerate of the customers time. Prior starting the work, Daniel advised of the top lid on my dryer that was cracked by the other referred pro. Daniel was reasonable and did not try to over charge me for parts or labor . He made sure the job was down right even though he had to work with a cracked lid.

After speaking with them on the phone, and describing the symptoms (and the fact that the dishwasher was in a flood, theybwere very honest and told me that I'd be better off just buying a new dishwasher. The cost of parts and labor would be almost as much as a new one. I appreciate them not wasting my time and charging me for a service call.

I had my carpet re-stretched between 3 bedrooms and a living room. John did a great job getting the wrinkles out. He was able to take care of me next day and about 2 hours of labor. Quick, respectful and kind.

I needed an entryway light hung in my foyer, which is about 20 feet high. Stefan and his co-worker did a great job of hanging the light. They were very quick, the price was exactly as quoted, and it was an extremely reasonable price. I would hire him again.

Brandon and the crew did a fantastic job installing a gas line to the barbeque grill. It was labor intensive and required hand trenching. Professional installation and the site was left clean.

DJ was pleasant & prompt; however, his quote was "$50 total." Actually $50 was the service call + labor; the parts were extra. That was not made clear in the bid; therefore the bid was misleading.

Ed worked very hard to make sure I was happy with every detail when painting and doing cabinet , front door, and bathtub repair in my condo. He pointed out areas that needed repair and suggested painting ceilings in the kitchen and bathroom which really made the place look more spacious and clean. He worked really long hours but did not increase the price over what we had agreed upon. He returned several times to finish the tub resurfacing and cabinet repair because they needed several steps. Ed also worked hard to find replacement laminate for our countertop. He spent time on researching and tracking down a place to have it specially made and color matched which was difficult due to the age of the countertop material. He sealed cracks in the ceiling and wet sanded areas that had been filled with spackle without charging more for increased time and labor. Ed communicated often throughout the project to give me updates and responded quickly to all my inquires. Ed was very friendly and really cares about making the customer happy for a competitive price! He does whatever is necessary to complete the job to the customer’s satisfaction and takes pride in his work!

Derrick was quick to respond to my request for a fix price for the labor, as I planned to supply the parts. I had to have the work done on short notice and he accommodated by coming out on a Sunday to do the work. Additional parts were required to complete the work. Derrick left to obtain the parts, returning to complete the job the same day. The only issue we had with the panel repair was one breaker that was not returned to the ON position. Not a big deal at all. I would call Derrick again.

Henry did a great job at removing a garden shed from our backyard! He was professional and not only hauled off the debris but also cleaned up the area where the shed stood, stacking leftover cinder blocks and removing all scraps. Will hire again for future projects where labor is needed.

My home was hit by a tornado recently. Alfredo and company totally updated my yard due to all the damage. They also put in a french drain from the front of my house all the way through the backyard. Very long french drain. The drain was needed very badly due to the tornado taking away most of the grass and dirt. The water would just lay in my yard due to the tornado damage. I now have a water free yard because the french drain works and drains everything. The crew were fantastic and very hard workers. They are the best. I totally would recommend this company if you want the results that I have received from them. Thank you for making me one happy homeowner.....

My experience with Cody has been a span over a few month and has been great. First, he knocked out the top railing we had on our second floor and installed a half wall. It blends in very well with the rest of the wall below it and is very sturdy. Next, he ripped out the old carpet upstairs and installed LVT flooring. He did it quickly and the quality is great. Last, he repaired a portion of my fence that was beginning to fall over with new pickets and a kick board. When funds are available I am going to have him do the rest of our fence. His overall professionalism and work quality was very good. He works alone without a crew, but I actually find that more respectable and the quality is still great. Remember people, larger companies with a crew charge more because they need to pay for their workers. Cody consistently checked on me to make sure I agreed with the progress. Any ideas I had, he listened closely and gave me his best recommendations. I even recommended him to a friend to install tile in their bathroom. Needless to say, they were also very happy with the quality and how quickly he got it done before they had guest stay.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

        • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
        • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
          • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
        • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

        What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Fore more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

        • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
        • Toilet replacement: $75.
        • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
        • Faucet replacement: $125.
        • Garbage disposal: $75.

        Can a handyman do plumbing?

In some states, a handyman can provide plumbing services, but it may be in your best interest to call a plumber, particularly for issues more major than unclogging a drain or attaching a new sink. Hiring a plumber is important because mishandling your water and gas lines has the potential to do great damage to your home, your family’s health, or even the safety of your neighborhood. A handyman is not legally required to have any training or licensing in plumbing matters, while a licensed plumber has undergone years of education and on-the-job training. In some cases, homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by plumbing repair done by an unlicensed handyman.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most plumbers learn their trade through a four- or five-year apprenticeship with 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. They also receive classroom education including “safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. After completing an apprenticeship program, plumbers … are considered to be journey workers, qualifying them to perform duties on their own,” according to the DOL. Licensed plumbers should do continuing education to keep abreast of safety and technology changes. Poor plumbing can lead to sewage backups, a flooded home or even natural gas leaks, so it’s best to leave it in the hands of a specialized professional.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
