Mike and his crew do amazing work. We had so many projects on our list and Mike patiently walked through all of them, offered his suggestions, and readjusted our quote as we changed our minds. The work started a couple of days later than we expected and took a bit longer than initially discussed, but we couldn't be any happier with the end result. From the new front walkway to the pool patio, backyard path, deck landing, trimmed trees/bushes and new lava rock in the flowerbeds, there is so much for us to appreciate. The team worked so hard despite the mean TX heat and their work really speaks for itself. We're already back for another quote because we are so thrilled with the improvements on the front yard that we want to add a few more finishing touches. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lone Star Lawn Care & Services and would suggest that anyone considering this company reach out for a quote because the work is reasonably priced and so worth it!

Tim was such an outstanding professional carpenter for my projects. (1) Tim repaired my fence, replacing pickets and posts and then restained all of it. There was several challenges with this job due to sprinkler systems etc. but Tim took all precautions necessary and the outcome was Beautiful! Looks like a new fence! (2) He installed French doors in my home, painted and added hard wear. Perfectly done! Tim was always very fair in his charges. He was concerned with not only doing a job well done but made sure I was always pleased and received what I needed. He is a very honest man and always went beyond what was expected of his work. Timothy always stayed in touch with me during the projects and I was always informed of what was happening during the work. Tim has a great eye for seeing how a job needs to be done then he has the ability to follow through. He was excellent in scheduling. I will definitely contact Tim Stewart for any projects or needs in the future. He is very dependable. Timothy could not have pleased me more and I highly recommend his services to anyone!

We hired Jon to replace our wooden 9 year old crumbling fence that had partially blown down from a storm. We got lots of quotes from big fencing companies and no one could come close to the price that Jon offered us. Jon's quote was about $10 cheaper per linear foot than the other companies could offer! Jon and his crew did a beautiful job on the fence. They even had to deal with connecting the fence to a large tree and they did it seamlessly. I am so happy that we had Jon and his crew come out to do our fence. They were able to finish the project in just three days and I hardly knew they were even there. The best part is, that rather than just take the old wood to the dump, they offered it to a few couples who needed the wood repair their fences/make crafts which is super environmentally friendly! I will definitely hire them in the future to do other projects around our house.

He gave me very reasonable quote out of 10 other quotes i received. He really came through fine and kept informing me and always returned on time when he said he would come back to finish the job due to bad weather. Though i hired him for my fence my neighbors also saw how well he power washed my fence (2 yr old never stained fence he washed so clean it looked new) they met him and got quotes and hired him as well. More than 7 other home owners in our community already hired him for the fence painting job after they saw the work he did at place. Over all very happy and going to hire him for more indoor house work (sheet rock and carpentry) as he seem to do more than paint.

Al, is very good to work with - he responded to my Thumbtack request immediately. I text several questions back to him which he answered professionally and promptly .( I had 4 other pool companies initially respond , but did not follow through on response to my basic questions, so I chose Crystal wave). I wanted to get some help quickly so that the pool would be swim-able by july 4th, and said he could stop by first thing the next morning to look at my pool and start working to get rid of the algae, which he did. I left for work, and when I got home the pool was the bluest I've ever seen it since we bought the house 1.5 years ago ! he did a great job! highly recommend Crystal wave

I hired Texas Smart Decks to replace my gate and one side of my fence. I'd contacted several companies and William was by far the most responsive and easiest to work with. He was quick to respond to my request for a quote, schedule time to come take a look, and to provide a detailed quote with multiple options. His quote was the most competitive, but ease of doing business was a factor as well. All of my questions were answered quickly and professionally. Even with the rain the day the project started on 1/17/17 everything was completed by the end of the day on 1/19/17. Today we're having steady winds at 20-25mph with gusts up to 50mph (according to The Weather Channel) and the new fence is holding steady. I will definitely contact Texas Smart Decks if I need more fence repairs in the future.

We used Crafted to replace our front lawn and fence in order to get our house ready to go on the market. We had a short time frame and they worked tirelessly to meet our open house deadline. I have no doubt the results contributed to a full price offer in days. We plan to hire Crafted to design and implement a full landscape at our new home. Couldn't be happier! Thanks!

Dan Horgos was awesome to work with. We would recommend him over and over again. He started and completed the job on schedule and left the site as clean if not cleaner then when he started. He's not only a fence guy, as we also had a small project relating to our roof and he was able to do that as well. We go quotes from several fencing companies and one of the companies we didn't go with said he didn't mind losing to Veteran Fence because he knew Dan did excellent work and was a good guy. To us that spoke volumes to have a competitor speak so highly of his competition. Thank you Dan for an excellent job!

Marco and his guys do great work. I hired them to build a fence & refurbish an entire deck. The work was done on budget & on time. Since that first job, I've had them back for a plumbing issue that required sheet rock replacement. Their most recent project for us was a complete redesign and landscaping of our entire back yard. We are very pleased with the results. Marco & his crew are great!

Triple V Fence and Deck was wonderful. They walked me through each step of the way and were incredibly transparent about the entire process. Not only were they quick and reliable, they built a beautiful quality fence. My fence is, by far, the best looking fence around the neighborhood. I would highly recommend their services.

I hired Chris to tear down an old chain length fence and replace it with an 8-foot cedar fence. He was VERY professional. He communicated well, did a great job and met my expectations. He sent me an estimated budget for the project via email the day before the project and showed up the next day with supplies to get started. His pricing was fair and he worked really fast. I'm always hesitant to pay by the hour because it's really easy for someone to take their time and work slow. But Chris was very well prepared and wasted no time getting started. He completed my project in just under 5 hours. Other fence companies quoted me almost double. I was very pleased.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
