I can't say enough wonderful things about Joe. He was able to capture every special moment at my wedding. He was so easy to work with and was able to take all of the pictures that I had requested. Before the wedding he met with us to ask about our needs and our special requests for photographs. During the wedding I felt like he was everywhere and was able to capture all of the wedding. After the wedding I spoke with many of the guests and they were thoroughly impressed with how kind Joe was and how he was able to take pictures of everything during the wedding. Joe exceeded my expectations. After reviewing all of the photos I felt like I was reliving my wedding all over again. I was nervous and selecting a photographer who is really able to Capture the spirit of the wedding. I'm so happy that we picked Joe and the photographs turned out wonderfully! I would recommend him to any of my friends. He's a great photographer and his rates are completely reasonable!

We had a very small wedding with just immediate family. We were running a little late and Dr. Black was very patient. The ceremony was beautiful and Dr. Black did a wonderful job. My daughter and her husband also recited their own vows.

Amir did our engagement photos at the Dallas Arboretum, the only time we could arrange all of our schedules was at 3:00 PM in one of the hottest days of the year, 107F and he still managed to get amazing photos, great value for the price, we will use him again for our wedding photos! Highly recommended

WOW! Tommy was absolutely amazing! We hired him for our wedding of about 100 people when our original DJ cancelled just a few weeks before the big day. It was a stressful switch up, but I am so glad it got us Tommy! He was phenomenal! He is very organized and helped us plan a timeline for our day. We were unable to meet in person because we didn't live near where we got married, but a phone call and a few emails were all he needed to be able to personalize the experience for our wedding. We got compliments on his music choice for the cocktail hour, and he had the dance floor packed all night during the reception. He even jumped out and showed us some moves! Throughout the whole process he was prompt and clear with communication- whether that was phone or email. He has awesome customer service and worked so hard to make our day great. I absolutely recommend him! If we ever need a DJ for an event in the Dallas area again, we will definitely be calling him. Our guests and venue staff loved him and so did we!

We hired Lyly to take photos at my husbands 70th birthday party. The photos are beautiful! Lyly and her husband expertly and discreetly covered the party and we now have an album full of memories. She also took some pre-party photos of our family that we will treasure forever. Thank you Lyly! We could not be happier.

DJ. French did am amazing job at my wedding he was really amazing at switching up the play lists on demand. If the guests weren't dancing he played good songs that everybody loved listening to, then once people started dancing he would play some great dance songs! My wedding didn't have a single issue and the music was awesome!

I ordered a wedding cake and a groom's cake from Chef Ana. Both cakes were beautiful and delicious. Ana was so sweet and pleasant to talk to and work with. She delivered the cakes on time and set them up beautifully. She is an artist! I highly recommend her, and I am pleased that I chose her and her wonderful cakes to be a part of our wedding! :-)

It was a pleasure working with Jeremy for our wedding in downtown Dallas at the Cathedral Church of St. Matthew. He was very familiar with the area, and knew all the perfect spots for beautiful photos. He was calm and patient with my family, my guests, and with me (despite the frantic rush of the day!). Jeremy was with us for most of the day, taking pictures before, during, and after the ceremony and stayed until almost the end of the reception. I didn't realize how lovely the photos would be until I saw them. Jeremy really has a great eye for a beautiful shot, and we will treasure the photos. We have some slightly more traditional "wedding portrait" photos from inside the cathedral church and many candid shots of guests enjoying the ceremony and reception. I loved that the photos do not look staged; he created lovely images that capture the warmth of the wedding location and the excitement and romance of our wedding day. He was able to capture the fun and spontaneity of the reception and the energy is really represented in the photos. Jeremy was totally dedicated to getting great pictures. He was both accommodating by letting us dictate shots that we wanted and also took charge of some shots and suggested different poses. After the wedding day, he did a beautiful job editing the photos and I was thrilled in the quick turn around time! Jeremy's patience, professionalism, skill, and artistic eye were all deeply appreciated. Everyone who has seen the online wedding album or the distributed CD's loves the photos. His photography is highly recommended and I would certainly hire him again.

Jana and Preston were wonderful at my wedding. We purchased a photography / videography package from Frames in Action. We can not be more pleased with the results. I asked them to stay a bit longer than anticipated. They were able to accommodate me. I recommend them to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.
