Juan was amazing to work with. He took the time to find exactly what I wanted, was very affordable, did a great job installing the granite, protected the floors in the house so he wouldn't damage anything, and most of all is trustworthy. I had another contractor bail on some other jobs at the house and Juan graciously offered to complete the drywall/painting work. He made it look really good! Juan communicates very well, shows up when he says he will, and completes the job with integrity. I will be using him in the future and highly recommend him. Trustworthy contractors are rare to find these days.

The overhead sheetrock repair was going to be a very challenging and messy job, cleaning up after another's demo error. Geovanny was on time for the estimate and for the actual job. Not only did he and his associate totally " tent " the area with plastic ( to contain as much of the white dust as possible), but then at the end of the job they cleaned up the area. Actually after sanding, patching and repainting the ceiling....the kitchen was cleaner than when they began! Geovanny was the only contractor who came to estimate, that actually got onto the counter to tap all around the ceiling to try and research the project. He is a very upbeat and reassuring man, patient with my anxiety and quite proficient at his craft. He was priced very fairly and It is strange.... not only would I recommend him ....since he seems to be able to do many different remodel tasks, I am looking for other projects that he may be able to complete in my condo.

I had to have both my water heaters replaced in the attic of a 2 story home. Ibrahim Flores responded first and asked when I needed this done.....my response was “now...LOL.” Well little did I know he did get on it right then! He was in and out that day....I was impressed and the quote was extremely reasonable. I have his number already saved in my phone and I told a friend of mine that needs some sheet rock repair done, gave her his number. Thank you Ibrahim, I got to take a long HOT shower this morning.

I have had so much trouble trying to get someone to take on my job. Because of some water damage, I was in need of a new a/c access door and repair to the surrounding ceiling. Eduaro responded to my request almost immediately, and scheduled a time to come take a look that same day. He took some measurements, told me his plans, and gave me a quote including materials within the hour. He arrived the next day ready to work. He was fast, efficient, professional, and polite and did a high quality job for a reasonable price. I absolutely recommend!

I hired WCR for carpet cleaning and repair of a rental property we held. The carpet was in very bad shape, which included rips, tears, and stains from a prior pet of a tenant. The carpet repair (patches) turned out well, and the carpet cleaning and deodorizing came out as well as one come expect (based on the circumstances). I would not have any reservations in using WCR's services in the future.

Phil immediately responded to my post and came the very next day. He did some drywall patching and repair around one of our a/c vents on the ceiling. He was in and out in less than an hour. Will be calling him again to do a couple of the other vents after our baby is born. Thanks!

Joe Weldon helped us with a roof leak. He climbed on our roof and took pictures to show that our builders had not sealed any openings on our roof! He ran to Home Depot and finished the whole project within the hour on the Friday before a holiday weekend. All for a very fair price, as well! He kept us updated and informed throughout the whole process. I really recommend him for any roofing repair needs!

Truly an all around excellent experience. My paint job was done in a timely manner, showed up on time, answered questions in a courteous and professional manner and cleaned up afterward. Everything turned out beautifully and I'm very impressed and pleased. I hired Sheppard Remodeling for another drywall job and that turned out amazing as well, I plan to hire him for a third job.

The original scope of my job was to paint the exterior of my house (1 color for siding, 1 for trim and 1 for accent), replace rotten trim boards and replace/repair some siding. Eduardo’s team began the job at the scheduled time and proceeded to plan. During the initial estimate, Eduardo and I agreed that there would be discovery work as we removed some siding for repair and that we would reassess costs/timing once we got to that point in the project. Unfortunately for us, there was significant additional repair work that was necessary. We discussed the additional work with Eduardo, he came back with options with clearly explained costs and timing effects. Thankfully, Eduardo’s team was able to do the repairs, accommodate the change in schedule and some bad weather thrown on top. After all of this, we have a beautifully painted house and it was an absolute pleasure to work with SPS and Eduardo. Eduardo’s concern for our satisfaction, thoroughness in work and quality of his team are all reasons that I rate them so well.

I'm really impressed. Matt did great job for us without any supervision. We own a house in Houston but now live in Washington DC. We need a handyman to do a few things from drywall repair to painting to change light bulbs. Matt did everything on our list and finished the job with very high quality. I also feel relieved as we weren't local and only asked my realtor to go check on the progress occasionally. Five stars. Thank you Matt.

I used Mike and his crew to repair some cracks in the drywall/ceiling, repair the base of a wood door frame that had rotted, secure some loose chimney flashing, and hang a new chandelier on a very tall ceiling. I was very happy with the results, particularly the drywall - little to no sign that the ceilings have been repaired now. Communication was somewhat spotty at times while Mike was on other jobs, was a bit of confusion here and there, but overall the job was done within the timeframe needed.

I've only recently met A&M and they've only done one project for me so far. But I have been impressed with what I've seen. Their work is good and the prices are reasonable. But what makes me ecstatic about A&M is that they show up when they say they will. None of this "oh I'm out in Richmond" when they have an appointment with me at the same time. I've had so much trouble with flaky contractors this year, and it's only gotten worse since Harvey. These guys show up when they say they will. I may have found my new go-to contractor. I had a drain leak in one of the properties I manage. The plumber had to cut out sections of the drywall and even a section out of the siding outside. After several failed attempts with other contractors, I found A&M. They showed up on time and made the repairs. The work looks good and they did a good job of matching the paint where needed. I sent them to another property today to give me an estimate for a project. They said they would be there at 3:30, and they were there at 3:30. I have never given such a long and flowery review for anyone. I usually just click the stars and move on. But I am so happy that I've found someone who actually does what they say they will do. I feel they deserve it. Before/after pics attached.

My water heaters in upstairs attic had faulty sensors that overflowed from upstairs through to downstairs master closet and bathroom. The claim was settled through the water heater sensory company. PGS was prompt to reply to my thumbtack request, came to my house to give me a quote, followed up with written quote emailed. From start to finish, their communication was 5 Star. They are honest, have a tremendous amount of experience with all levels of construction and the end result was perfect. You cannot even tell that the ceilings were damaged. They ripped out drywall, replaced insulation and drywall, matched ceiling texture and paint color perfectly. They also replaced light fixtures. I would highly recommend using PGS as this project could not have gone any better. I called their references who also raved about their great jobs completed. I also really liked the online invoice portal sent to me via email so that I could pay using my credit card. Very professional from start to finish and I will be using them again for several projects in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
