Very happy with the service I received. I needed help with heavy furniture moving inside my home. Blue Mule Movers was prompt in contacting me, giving me a reasonable offer, and very willing to extend their service. The two young men who came to do the job drove a long way from Dallas to Tarrant County, called when they were going to be late, were very efficient and courteous when they arrived, and made sure everything was to my satisfaction when re-arranging furniture. I wish I were able to do my room arranging project myself, but I am grateful to find a company that was ready, willing and able to help at a slightly better rate than the going rate for labor. I would use them again in any staging or furniture arranging in the future, and I will put them on my referral list when I consult with others. This type of service for heavy lifting wasn't easy to find. Glad to know Blue Mule is out there. Thank you!

We had a very large move from a 3600square feet house to another large 2 story house. Castle movers were accurate with their estimate. They told us up front it was going to be a large job, requiring 6 men and 3 trucks. They also estimated between 10-12hours of labor. They arrived on time and began to work. They worked 11 hours straight with only 2 10 min breaks and 1 30min lunch at 4pm. They of course discounted that time. We did not see anyone slack or just stand around. They worked hard and moved all our heavy furniture with no damage to anything. We would definitely use them again.

Be warned. Think twice before booking with this company or else pray that nothing goes wrong. Hired this company for a local move on June 10th, the moving crew showed up on time and were quick in unloading and loading. However, several pieces of appliances were damaged during the move. It was pointed out to the moving crew and I was told that the owner will be in contact with me. No calls was received. I contacted the owner and I was told to provide more information and pictures. No updates whatsoever after that. Contacted them again and was told to provide the same information again. This goes on for several weeks until I realized that this company has no intention to do the right thing. I sent them another message today asking for partial refund to cover the damages caused but my message was ignored. I understand accidents happen but this company claims that they are fully insured and bonded, it should not be so difficult to file a claim. It will not end here. Pictures attached is just one part of the damage.

This is our second time using this company, the first time we used them it was from our Angie's List subscription. We lost track of their business and that we were given. We decided to go on thumbtack to find a mover and we lucked up and found these guys again. Once again they did a tremendous job moving us. Our crew was different this time but we received the same great service as before. Great job once again.

Jason is very professional all ways. His phone demeanor, his labor quoting, his billing and payment, all great. His work was excellent and he didn’t waste any time getting down to business. My repairs are just what I needed at a price I really liked. I’ll use him again, for sure, for my next project.

5 Star Billiards representatives were amazing. They were prompt, professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions. The work that they did moving, rebuilding bumpers, and recovering is extraordinary and my pool table looks like it just came from a showroom floor. I would definitely recommend them.

Easy process to set up. The two bellhops contacted me before and showed up on time. My only complaints are that it is a little bit pricey. $120 for 10-15 min of work moving two couches from downstairs to upstairs seems too much. And then when they moved the couch upstairs they put a hole through my wall....which was the primary reason I wanted to hire professionals instead of doing it myself.

Really nice, hardworking guys. Did a great job moving me out in a reasonable amount of time for a great price (and rounded down the hours!). Was even super apologetic about being only 10 minutes late - texted me in advance and kept me posted! Most movers won't even give you an exact arrival time, let alone sweat being 10 minutes early / late. Highly recommend!

I got several "guestimates" for removing boxes of trash. Mike's original price was $85. I said I had about 35 kitty litter boxes and three copy paper boxes on the second floor of my condo and some cardboard and empty boxes on my patio. I thought I had described the boxes and trash fairly well, but he asked me to send pictures of what I had. I had underestimated the number of litter boxes, so when he saw the pictures he said it would be $165. I asked him what it would be if the litter boxes were downstairs and he said $150. Frankly I thought the price was a little high, but we had established a rapport, and I liked that he was an ex-Marine. We set a date and he came to pick up everything. Even though I hadn't moved all the boxes downstairs, he still honored the $150. I did find out when he was at my home that they take the trash to a regular dump where they have to pay. That of course accounted for part of his price. His license doesn't allow him to dump into a dumpster like my complex has. Mike was extremely nice and efficient. He even swept my patio after he had moved the boxes. He stated several times that they work for tips. I didn't if he was the owner of the business or if he worked for someone else, which I probably should have, but I did give him a tip. I would definitely use him again. It was well worth the money I spent to have all that stuff out of my way!!

Mona Lisa moving is one of the best moving company I ever hired. They did however qouted me wrong but quite honestly they charged me a very reasonable price. I do agree they qouted me quite low for the job it took to move my stuff at first so it was very fair they charged me more later. They care about my furniture very much. I have a 5000$+ bed and dresser which they took the time and care to move it. They wrapped it good and even took it apart and assemble it for me. Very nice people and easy to work with. Moving is big stress and headaches. Save yourself the trouble and hire the professional Mona Lisa moving company. You will not be dissapointed. My furniture arrived looking like they did before. Thanks again Mona Lisa! Oh and they come with a spanking new huge moving truck. You know how most moving company come in a bang up sqeeking truck? Not them! Will use them again if I ever need to move anything.

Hired Guidance Moving to move our business office to a new location. A team of 3 showed up and got right to work. They quickly disassembled our desks and wrapped them for transport. They were all very polite, hard working professionals. I often worry about such services when there is an hourly rate involved as people sometimes "milk the clock" but not these guys! They did not slow down until the job was finished. Everything was handled perfectly. The rate was great and the quality of work was exceptional. If you are looking for movers, look no further, these are your guys! I will hire them again in the future!

We recently used Pick Up Movers for our move. The moving team did a first class job. They provided great packing and were very careful handling our stuff. Our move was very well managed by them and we are very thankful for the personal care the movers gave us. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a moving company

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
