We have used Kevin twice, once for a formal sit down birthday dinner for ten and for a party for 30 people. We were very pleased with both events and will definitely hire Kevin again. Both events were in our home. It was so nice to have an occasion and leave everything to Kevin. He was on time and brought everything that was needed. He did everything from unloading and setting up to clean up afterward. He wouldn't even let us help him unload his car. The only thing we provided was our dinnerware, plates, crystal, and flatware, but that was our choice. He does provide those things, if you prefer. Kevin's food for both occasions was excellent. Everyone loved the food and some guests asked for Kevin's contact information. It is also so much fun watching Kevin cook! Kevin is very versatile in food that he is able to prepare and very flexible in planning a menu. He really works with you to come up with a menu of which you are totally satisfied. He is flexible throughout the evening and does not mind you being in and around where he is cooking. At both events, people were gathered about the island watching him and asking questions. Kevin cleans up everything before he goes and leaves any leftover food. He is very professional. What more could you ask for? We highly recommend Kevin as a personal chef for your event.

Mark Holden has been catering a weekly vegetarian dinner for me and 14 guests for the past 7 months. The food is always fresh, with the best ingredients. I used to go over menus with him to make sure that the meal was balanced -- in terms of nutrition, color, texture, and flavor. But now we just eat what he brings us. Chef Mark Holden can do an extremely wide range of jobs, from the intimate dinner party to large corporate events. He can do Thai, Indian, Mediterranean, French, Italian, American, whatever you want. He's a world class chef who has cooked for the Queen of England and a down to earth guy who will provide excellent lunches for school children. My dinner party is after a prenatal yoga class. I needed my pregnant women to have 25 grams of protein each. Mark didn't flinch about this requirement. Part of his vast chef experience includes working for a diet company in the UK that also specified nutritional requirements. If someone in my group has a food allergy, he'll work with it. Mark is totally reliable. He will meet your requirements and deliver at a competitive price. Anyone would be fortunate to have Mark Holden and the DINE team do the cooking and catering.

Great retirement party. The atmosphere was relaxed, food was excellent and the guest especially enjoyed the cooking explanations and demonstrations in the open kitchen environment.

We were visiting town and had a VRBO rental house. I wanted to spend time with my kids and new grandbaby, instead of shopping and cooking, so I asked Chef DeVown to fix is several meals I could serve. He exceeded our expectations, delivering delicious, healthy (as requested) meals which everyone thoroughly enjoyed! I would not hesitate to use Chef for this or for an event! He did great, and was super nice and polite! The food was fabulous!

Honestly Chef Mark and his staff were so professional , the food and the creativity of the food was declious. He was professional at every point from the beginning to the end. EVERYONE at my daughter’s grad party was asking where did you find the Chef! All adults and high schoolers were very pleased with the food. I’m going to have Chef Mark over to my home for a girl’s night seafood cooking class in the near future!

Have Chef Calii cook was a gift for my birthday. She gave my wife some options and we ended up having kale salad, balsamic glazed salmon, asparagus with mushrooms and onions, three chees mashed potatoes, and crepes for dessert. She did the shopping for the food for dinner. Chef Calii arrived about 30-40 minutes late because of traffic. It only took a few minutes to have our salad ready. Chef Calii was great considering we had 2 dogs a newborn baby in the house. She started preparing everything and I wasn't 100% sure what was coming together. Eventually it came out looking good, and tasting great. She even cleaned the kitchen afterward. The one thing that could have improved the experience a bit more was for it to move a little faster. The mashed potatoes took quite a while to prepare, so there was about an hour and a half between our salad and the main course. Because of this, we weren't finished eating until after 9:10 pm. Overall, the meal was fantastic, and was even better that I didn't have to shop, cook, or clean.

Kelly is an amazing chef and very accommodating and dependable. Her passion for cuisine is evident in each meal. We used Kelly’s services for about 6 months on a weekly basis. She is kind, courteous and above all a talented chef! My husband and myself were on a very strict diet and her meal prep and delivery made it easy to follow and tasty! Kelly will be filling a hefty dessert order at our corporate Christmas party this December. If you’re looking for a talented chef that really cares about her craft and clientele...the search is over!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
