Incredible speed, service, communication, and quality! Antonio is a professional and has a great crew with him. He came to my home within hours of our initial phone call. While looking at my existing landscape, he was able to design a completely new layout. His focus was getting us to our goal within a very reasonable cost. He did all the work in one day, showed up on time, and completely cleaned up the job site. I had multiple last minute changes and he and discussed the options with me. He step by step, explained what he was doing, and showed us how to care for our plants. Excellent company and work! I highly recommend to anyone!

Arturo was very easy to work with. He responded quickly. When what we wanted in our flower beds wasn’t in season he assisted in selecting bedding plants even better suited. They worked fast on site. Did a great job and cleaned up well after work was completed.

I just came home early from work, feeling awful from allergies, and was pleasantly surprised to see my lawn was already being taken care of. Both young men not only did a fabulous job with my lawn, they were extremely polite and nice. I am very glad I chose Lawnstarter to take care of my lawn. Being able to pay online makes things even easier!

David came even earlier than scheduled and called me to ask if he could start working. He did a very good job, explained me how to correctly winterize my sprinkler system and changed the backpressure device, isolating the whole thing. I’m even thinking about hiring him to take care of my grass.

I texted very short notice and they sent someone out 3 hours later! The lawn care guy was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. We had been neglecting our lawn and now it looks so beautiful! It's the best work we've had so far and they won our repeat business with their care to detail and affordable rates.

A&P Brother Services did a wonderful job on my front lawn bed transformation. They were very punctual, hard working, and definitions have an eye for landscapes. I'm going to hire them for routine lawn maintenance since they took such good care of my lawn.

Joel knows what he is doing! He understands what I tell him and goes beyond the usual "just cutting the grass" tasks. He installed new beds for me and actually moved some amaryllis bulbs so the bed looked better immediately (without me telling him). The other yard man slashed into the bed destroying half of them! It is hard to find someone who knows plants like Joel. I have been amazed at his work ethic and abilities! This week, he trimmed a pygmy palm, which we had discussed, but I am used to requesting work over and over again before it finally gets done. He works by himself, so I like not having strangers show up to do yard work unannounced. Excellent service!

This was the first time I had ever hired a landscaper and Jim wasn't intimidating or pushy, he listened to what we wanted do, how much we wanted to spend and suggested plants that would fit our lifestyle (low maintenance & tough plants) and I was surprised how fast the work was done, crew was friendly and kept busy. We were very satisfied with the finished results. We had one type of plant that needed care in cold weather and one day after the job Jim reminded & taught me how to wrap the plant. He really takes pride in his work. Jennifer was very professional also and she kept me updated, and responded to my emails promptly. I look forward to working with them on phase two of our landscaping plans. I highly recommend their team!

During my initial meeting Javier listened to what I was looking for and provided a landscape design that complements my home and meets all that I wanted. He provided notice for start of work and as they were placing the plants asked if I wanted to make any changes. Javier and his crew provided a professional quality job and suggestions for care and watering schedules. I am looking forward to long working relationship with Javier for all of my lawn care needs.

Jason was awesome!! We just leased a one acre property that had been vacant and neglected. Jason was able to mow earlier than expected and communicated his arrival time. He gave the yard lots of TLC as if it were his own. He even removed debris found hiding in the grass and let us know about weak spots in the fenced yard where a dog could escape. We definitely made the best choice for lawn care. See you next week, Jason!!

I was quoted a reasonable price. I hadn't cut it in a looking time. So I expected to pay more. When the owner himself arrived right away in short notice I was surprised. I even added a few services (but down and haul away cactus, trim box hedges) and he took care of them for a small add on fee. The man looked and was very professional and clean cut. I don't pay attention to the lawn at all but my neighbors commented that his work was really good! I called them back a few times to plant a flower bed and to pressure wash my patio and to even paint columns and shudders on my porch. These folks even come out in the heat of the day. In Texas, that says a lot! I almost hate to rate so high because I don't want to share them with too many people. TJ

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
