Loved working with Lone Star. Mike listened to what we wanted, offered advice and suggestions, was super flexible and accommodating, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them. -- we had our yard and beds replaced with decorative gravel and some plants removed and/or relocated, some stone edging put in and a small driveway laid.

Couldn't ask for better service. Our house was built in 1937 and over the last 4 years we've dealt with A LOT of contractors. Last summer we had the misfortune of hiring an unlicensed concrete specialist to install a driveway. The severe angle of the grade they created at the approach caused cars to bottom out, and even trucks to scrape their undercarriage along the entrance. Dulce handled all the permitting, the communication with the city, and worked directly with a city engineer to ensure that the job was fixed and done correctly -- and at a fair price. Her communication on the job was flawless, delays (due to the city inspection process, no fault of her own) were communicated well in advance. I sincerely wish we had found her earlier.

NS Concrete did an amazing job reconfiguring the slope of my driveway. Nahum is very thorough and responsive. He promptly responded and gave a fair price quote for the job while following through at every stage of the project. He's a talented guy that I would trust with any concrete job. Thanks for the hardwork!

Tony and his team did an outstanding job on our driveway. From beginning to end was a total of 9 days, including the demolition of an existing asphalt driveway. His people worked hard and all of them were obviously well trained. The concrete pour was done in one day without the need for construction joints, and the control joints were cut the next morning. In all, a very professional job, and we are pleased with the results.

Our landscaping change over was extensive with driveway extension, front patio, and back patio extension along with 7 trees, flower beds and lots of rock. Jason and his partner Aril were responsive, their workers were diligent and the quality of their work was outstanding. Due to weather issues some of the work was delayed but it was certainly not anything that could have been avoided. I would highly recommend this company. First 3 pictures were before; last 4 pictures are after---but now all the trees are leafed out and beautiful!

A recent heavy rain storm washed out about 50 feet of driveway including a culvert. Georgetown Paving came out providing an estimate to repair the driveway along with installing a ‘low water’ crossing vs. replacing the culvert. I was very happy with their recommendations and suggestions to better control the water flow over the driveway insuring the structure would survive another major flooding event. When we settled on what needed to be done they were out the next day clearing debris allowing access to and from the house. The entire job was completed in less than a week and we could not be happier with the results. They left the place in better shape than when they found it. I enjoyed working with Alex and his team. I recommend Georgetown Paving without reservation to anyone needing a paving solution. You will not be disappointed.

American Concrete did a great job with our new patio and driveway. The workers were polite and very respectful of our home and property. The finished product far exceeded our expectations and all debris was removed once the job was completed. I highly recommend American Concrete for any concrete related work.

We love our concrete floors by "Concrete Miracles". Such a professional group...first day they met me at my front door, shaking my hand and introducing themselves. So conscientious and meticulous in this huge project, which was about 1400 sq ft of beautifully poured concrete floors in our living area, bedroom and master closet (which was 22' long). It turned out AWESOME!! Everyone who sees it, raves about the look, warmth and texture of it!! We knew up front the step-by-step process, the number of days it would take, when it would be completed, etc., and there were no surprises as they were on target. The job required them doing something, then having to wait for it to cure or dry for the next step (in my words). Dave prepared us for the "odors", so we knew when the sealer was put on that we may need to make other arrangements, so we put down a mattress in our garage and camped out for that evening! No big deal!! So proud of the work ethic of Dave and his crew. Dave stands behind his work and whatever he tells you, you can count on it!! Thanks Dave and Concrete Miracles for our beautiful floors!!

They power washed the house and repair several areas where the mortar had dried and fallen out. The house looks like new. They also removed all the old wood in the expansion joints in the driveway and refilled with foam and flex product.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
