What a team! Jake took my desperate phone call after two days of failure with another Thumbtack operation put me in a world class bind. He scrambled and got me some help within an hour and they came in ready to get the job done. I got everything crucial completed in time for the painters to show up, and I was back on track. I will use Jake's Mighty Crew anytime I need help in the future. Pleasant, willing to do what it takes for the customer's sake, and they were fast and thorough. Love, love, love these guys!

Dry wall repair, patching, texturing, painting. We recently moved into a new home and had custom closet built. The company took out the parts installed by the builder, but does not offer dry wall repair service. I hired Angel out of 4 companies that did estimate for the drywall repair. Angel offered a reasonable price that was comparable to others. He was accountable, reliable, sincere, and did an excellent job. He showed and updated me on his progress while he was repairing the dry walls. I would definitely hire him again if we need a handyman in the future.

We were having a decorative arch removed from a wall while having our house painted. The painters mostly demo'd the arch, but realized it was a little beyond their skill set to finish the job. Joel and his assistant arrived the next day and worked quickly and with great expertise. When they were done, you would have never known there was an arch there, except that it wasn't painted. The texture was a near perfect match.

I have used several painters and painting companies over the past 25 years. The quality of work with Dusty was as good and probably better than any of my past experiences. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for great quality work. Definite attention to detail. My wife and I plan on having her come back for future projects inside & out. Solid “5” Star experience. The Lincoln’s Georgetown Tx.

I met with several painting companies to paint a two-story high living room with a balcony, angled ceilings and rounded edges and corners with arches, etc. The builder of the home had toasted almond (beige-yellow) textured walls. Needless to say, there were so many challenges with the walls because of all of its differences. It took me two years to interview these companies and to consider the colors. I interviewed Tex Painting and Dan came out to consult with me. The consultation was free. Unlike the other consultations, Dan immediately saw all of the potential in my living room space. I still had a very unrealized view of colors and was nervous about the entire project. I told Dan that I was thinking of red accent walls and a light or true gray for the walls and the ceilings painted back to white from the toasted almond. Dan came in with ease and immediately came up with the idea of 3 red accent walls that happened to be the inset walls of the space and the rest gray. Two years of thinking about painting these walls ended with Dan's vision and recommendations in minutes. Dan showed up on the day of painting and consulted with me and made sure of the plan and colors, collected the paint samples and introduced me to his painters. The painters were quiet, worked fast, respectable and did an amazing job! Because of Tex Painting my living room space was transformed in to something that is so exciting. The space now provides warmth, tranquility and peace. I'm now having Tex Painting paint my kitchen. Thanks guys!

The metal roof over the bay window was painted. As far as I can tell, all went well. It looks good and I hope will last. The painters performed in a professional manner and I will be contacting you about some trim work later in the spring.

He was easy to communicate my vistion as to how i wanted everything to look. He was very clean and was able to get out the job done in an extremely timely manner as well at a great price. Austin Home Solutions did an awesome job painting the exterior of my 1910 home. Derek provided a competitive quote and he and Tim got the job done fast even though they encountered multiple obstacles along the way. My contractor unfortunately cut a lot of corners when he put on new siding, but Derek and Tim took on the challenge to install missing trim, repair large gaps, and caulk every nook and cranny to ensure that the house would look good and be protected. Derek understands good customer service and that communication can be just as important as the quality of the work. He updated me frequently throughout the process so that I always knew what times he was coming in addition to always asking for clarification or feedback, something more professionals ought to do!

Fina and her crew were awesome. Call them and you will not be disappointed. We needed to paint our newly purchased house after closing and within 5 days before we moved in. After calling a few services we realized every painter in Austin is busy and/or quotes an exorbitant price to deter new business. Fina responded promptly and worked with me as my needs evolved from painting a few rooms to more than 4K sq ft of walls and ceiling. She was also willing to work within my budget. FIna also has great design insights and helped us with some remodeling ideas that we ended up incorporating. All this for free when she came to take a look at our house for a quote. We agreed at 10pm and the next morning her crew was at my place ready to get started. They spent more than 5 hours just setting up tarps, plastic and painters tape on to prevent any mishaps (even in an empty house) and that gives you a sense of the quality of work they do. Excellent five star service and will use again

Beau is an incredibly talented, highly skilled painter. He basically transformed my daughter's nursery into a magical skyscape-themed fairyland. Aside from standard wall painting (done with seemingly robotic precision), I also had Beau do custom work including lavender clouds and a purple wood grain finish on the floorboards and window trim. The clouds were fine art caliber and the trim actually looked like high-quality oak. Not sure how he does it, but the guy is definitely a master of his craft. Best part: he's reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Dulce was the best project manager that we have every hired. She was punctual, organized, and an excellent communicator. Her level of integrity was refreshing. We will definitely be hiring her again for future projects. Our patio project was finished on time and within our budget. Our patio project surpassed our expectations. We are impressed with the quality of materials and craftsmanship that each part of our project required. For our project, Dulce managed the city permit/inspection, framers, roofers, painters, masons, and electricians. Dulce had some serious weather complications that she was able to deal with in a positive way. We highly recommend Dulce as a project manager. She performs with a level of excellence that we have not experienced before.

I will admit this project took much longer than I thought. However I do not blame Iziah and his crew (well maybe for only one day) because the product and the current sheen was just not coming through in my house. However, they did a great job prepping, showing up every day, being detailed and making sure it was done right. He even paid for the new paint when the product wasn’t working and I find most painters would either do it and it not be right or charge to client. Iziah and Ashley are very hard workers- and nice and considerate and detailed. Painting (especially when it’s walls and ceilings) can be very disruptive so I highly recommend being out of the home or not moving in until painting is done— lesson learned but overall happy w work, coverage, and professionalism.

Protech's pricing is very reasonable. I had them replace a fiberglass roof with a metal roof. They completed the job quickly and the quality of their workmanship is great. I will keep them in mind for future roofing needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
