I was contact by Marcial from Medina Construction & Roofing and two other contractors within 10 minutes after I posted on Thumbtack that I needed a Reroof on my house, the next day he did an inspection on my roof and provided me with a detail estimate for the job and included reference from BBB and Thumbtack, plus a certificate of liability insurance. After reading some reviews and getting two other estimates, I decided to go with Medina Const. for the best price. The job was schedule whitin one week and the work was done in a full day and a half on the entire roof. Marcial is the "man" he is hands on with his crew, he actually is part of the crew, clean job from start to finish, no problem adding extra work for the terrace, and upgrading to 30 year shingle. I would definitely recommend Medina Const. for any roofing project.

Joe Janssen and Quick Roofing have been my roofing company for 2 years, after my roof needing replacing due to leaks. My roof looks great, and he's called and reinspected every now and then over the two years. I have nothing but good things to say. I recommend him highly.

Keto was great at trying to handle a somewhat non responsive adjuster. His patience and willingness to work with us was amazing compared to two other contractors. I would definitely recommend this company to friends and family. If I find the need for a roofing contractor in the future WILL be calling Keto.

Mr. Pichardo and his team did a fantastic job. From removing old siding, installing new siding, frame repair, sealing the perimeter of a garage that leaks, painting, sheetrock, gutters, complex pllumbing work (running new lines-pvc/copper, valves, etc). He is good at finding solutions when there is not always an easy fix. I've dealt with quite a few construction related contractors over the years and I would recommend him to anyone, without hesitation. He also plays guitar and sings very well. Five stars all day.

My roof suffered some hail damage last year and after filing a claim with my insurance company, I started searching for reputable roofers/general contractors. I reached out with my inquiry on Thumbtack and Matt Snow was one of 5 contractors that reached out to me promptly. Of the contractors I met with, Matt quickly made it to the top of my list. His courteousness, professionalism and reasonable estimate gave me just the confidence I needed to make my decision on which contractor to work with. Not knowing much of anything about roofing, it was a bit daunting to choose a contractor in the first place but Matt kept things simple. Not only did he provide a free inspection/estimate but sat down with me and reviewed the insurance claim, answering any questions/concerns I had. He also walked me through anything I didn't understand about the claim and at no time made me feel obligated to his business. The deadline for my claim was just a few weeks away and I was very concerned about the amount of work and time it would take for my roof to be completed and for my claim deadline to be met. Matt understood my sense of urgency and communicated his availability to me as well as providing me an accurate detail of how long it would take for the work to be completed. On the day of the job, his fellow contractors (he works with a team of two others) showed up promptly at 7:30 a.m. and started the work. I dealt with Matt directly, from start to finish of the project, and I appreciated there being no confusion or need to repeat myself to anyone else. I was charged for the roof after work on it had been started and Matt checked in a couple times throughout the day (it was a one day job) to keep me posted. Matt and his team are very reliable in my experience and wholly professional. Professionalism with courtesy go a long way in my book and Matt definitely defines that. This is an honest, transparent (reasonable rates and itemized invoice) and hard-working business that definitely wants to earn their customer's loyalty as much as their monetary business. My roof was a small job that didn't require a lot of hands but Matt and his team of two worked around the clock and delivered. I could hear them on the roof for the duration of the work and have no doubt as to how dedicated they are to getting the job done and done well! I also got the impression that no job is too big or too small to have Matt's full attention and dedication. Matt will work with your time, budget, claim and concerns. I highly recommend City Wide General Contracting and can't say enough great things about Matt and his team. This is a lengthy review but I wanted to cover all the bases of what I look for when hiring an individual/business. I am a first time homeowner and had no personal/direct experience with property damage and insurance claims prior to this. Matt put my mind at ease and made this process a bit more pain-free. I hope this review will be very helpful to anyone who is like me and wants to ease some of the stress that goes along with seeking reliable, reputable and courteous businesses. If you need roof repair or any General Contracting work, definitely consult with Matt Snow and City Wide General Contracting.

Keystone gave a free estimate on roofing repair work based on a homebuyers inspection report. His quote was right in line with the one the current home owner received. Ultimately as part of our negotiation we let owner's use their contractor at no charge to us. I'll call Keystone for future work though. He got us a quote fast!

He is a very hard worker and definitely know about fences. He is an expert in his field, very personal, professional, and care about making his customer happy. My husband and I are very pleased with the work that Chong and his workers completed today. Not only did he give the best quote we could not ask for a more professional contractor! From the day he showed up to give an estimate till the day the project was complete he was on time every morning and worked through the day with his team. His workers were very polite and made sure everything was picked up the last day. I highly recommend Chong and already asked him to come back to do more work.

We hired Josh with Infinity Roofing to do some repairs on our roof and gutters. He is extremely honest! He explained to us which items we were asking about actually needed to be repaired and which did not. He SAVED US MONEY! He explained why we did NOT need a new gutter system and he trouble shooted the areas that needed to be addressed. Our gutters and downspouts are functioning as new now! He fixed the areas on our roof that we requested without trying to sell us a whole new roof. I'm excited to see in his other reviews that he does other types of home repairs. We plan to hire him again!

I contacted Velesa Construction to build a patio cover for me. I compared the proposed price with several contractors and it was by far the best. But because of the price difference I was very worried. Once the construction began I became less worried and was overwhelmed with the results. The patio cover, to include two fans and two electrical outlets, looked much better than I imagine it would, it looked like it was originally built with the house. Everything was done very professionally and completed on time. Veronica was very nice and kept me informed on the status of the project. I'm very pleased with the results. Strongly recommended!

Mullins GC is my personal go to for all roofing needs and will always refer him out to my clients as well. His knowledge, professionalism, and sales approach isn’t pushy like all other contractors and really takes the time to go over what needs immediate attention and what can wait. I recently decided to contract for a covering for my patio so the family can enjoy BBQ and relax outside year around. I searched the Internet for contractors and then requested bids from a handful. After talking with reps from several companies I settled on Cuttwood Construction. I enjoyed meeting Curtis Sharp and was most happy he shared my vision for style and quality. Cuttwood wasn’t the lowest or highest bidder, but I felt the best value and quality. I should note that other contractors wanted anywhere from 30 to 90 days to begin construction. Since it was already late May I wanted to have the project done before the 4th of July or it could wait until next year! Curtis was able to make it happen! The project was started and completed in six days! Since the project was in my backyard Curtis had one of his crew haul the lumber from the delivery point in my driveway to the building site immediately after delivery. David (with some assistance) actually performed the majority of the construction from framing to roofing and to the finish work. I was amazed at how fast they performed the demolition where the new cover joined my house, and then had the framing and roof sheathing all done the first day! I must note that David takes great pride in his workmanship—he is a real craftsman! The finished project included wiring and installation of a ceiling fan, and the addition looks just like it was original to construction of the house. The crew did an excellent job of cleaning up the site and removing debris upon completion. Curtis came to inspect the progress on a daily basis and sometimes multiple times as the project neared completion. He was responsive to my questions, suggestions, and concerns, and I am completely satisfied with the final product. I would hire Cuttwood for future projects with complete confidence.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
