Introduction: I specialize in Therapy Dog Training. I work with handlers to become a certified Therapy Dog Teams. I work with dogs with positive reinforcement training using Karen Pryor's Clicker Training methods. I am a certified AKC CGC Evaluator and give classes like the AKC STAR PUPPY classes, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Canine Community and Urban certification classes. I 've worked with dogs over 25 years and prefer positive reinforcement methods to train dogs. I enjoy interacting with the handlers and dogs on a fun based type of training. I always say, if you are not having FUN with your dog , do something else.

After taking a group obedience class when my goldendoodle was a young puppy, I was told that he was responsive and smart enough to take a private class that would be tailored to his needs. Retha was recommended to me and I contacted her immediately. She was kind, got to know us and our needs right away and my puppy really responded to her methods. She came to us or met us wherever we needed to expand upon the training. Our puppy passed his control evaluation and good citizen tests after a short time with Retha's professional guidance and genuine care. The quality of her work is outstanding and very professional. i would recommend, and have recommended her, to anyone who needs a compassionate, professional who will address your specific needs and show you how to expand and practice her methods on your own in between lessons.

She really knows how to explain training in a way that everyone can understand. I attended a few classes and there were all types of dogs, big, small , bully breeds and little toy dogs. We all had a great time and our dogs learning so much.

Retha Lewis uses a very positive training process to train dogs in obedience. She is a wonderful role model in pet therapy not only as a trainer but also a registered member of Love on a Leash doing pet therapy visitations. She is a strong advocate for all animals to be treated well.

I was recommended to use Retha Lewis to help me get my dog Rose certified as a therapy dog. As of February 2015 Rose did everything needed to become a certified therapy dog through Love On A Leash (LOAL). I am so glad that I was recommended to contact Retha Lewis. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My prices are based on how far I travel from home and how much time is spent. A basic private lesson is usually $25 per hour. I do train group classes, and the charges are based on how many classes given.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I attend seminars and training as often as possible.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
After many years of raising and training my personal dogs, and participating in AKC Conformation and Obedience shows, I decided to become a dog trainer.
